Have yu ever felt sleepy and unable t think clearly in a crwded classrm?Have yu ever thught f the reasn why yu have such a feeling? As a matter f fact, the prblem is caused by what we breathe ut urselves—carbn dixide, r CO₂ .
There are rules abut hw much fresh air we need in buildings t keep us healthy. When there isn't enugh new air cming in t push the ld air ut, pllutants(污染物)build up. One f these pllutants is CO₂, which increases every time we breathe ut.
The truth is that CO₂has always been cnsidered harmless. After all, hw harmful culd it be since it cmes ut f ur wn bdy? But this view changed when an American scientist named William Fisk happened t watch an experiment by Hungarian scientists six years ag. Their findings shwed that peple have difficulty ding paperwrk when CO₂ levels are high.
Fisk and his team repeated the experiment at Lawrence Berkeley Natinal Lab in Califrnia, US. They asked students t participate ver three different perids. During each perid, there were different CO₂ levels. Students had t take part in rle-playing games n a cmputer. They were tld they were managers and the rganizatin they were running was having sme prblems. Each student was then graded n hw well they dealt with these prblems.
Like the experiment frm six years befre, the results shwed that students were mre likely t make careful, smart decisins with less CO₂in the air. Their ability was reduced when the CO₂ in the rm rse, Science News reprted.Carbn dixide in crwded classrms can cause sleepiness and unclear thinking. High CO₂ levels affect students' decisin-making. What's wrse, CO₂ can d harm withut us even realizing it.
This prblem is especially serius fr schls because there are lts f peple in classrms fr lng hurs every day. Students breathe ut CO₂ cntinuusly and it accumulates (积累)when fresh air supply is nt enugh. S it is imprtant that rms are well-aired. US scientists recently surveyed 100 Califrnia classrms. "We fund a clear relatinship between higher CO₂ level and increased absences amng the kids fr illness," said Mark Mendell, a member f the research team.
27.Why d pllutants build up in the building accrding t the passage? A.Because peple breathe ut CO₂ and there's nt enugh new air. B.Because utside pllutants get int the building frm windws. C.Because cleaning prducts give ut pllutants in the building. D.Because cmputers in the building make lts f pllutants.
28.What can we learn frm Fisk and his team's experiment? A.Students had the same reactin with different levels f CO₂ . B.Lw levels f CO₂ culd make students d things carelessly. C.Students felt uncmfrtable when the level f CO₂ increased.
第5页/共11页
D.High levels f CO₂ reduced the students' ability t make decisins. 29.What's the passage mainly abut?
The different pinins n classrm CO₂ .
The hidden bad effects f classrm CO₂ .
The main pssible cause f classrm CO₂ .

Crreia examined research which cmpared peple's experience f time when they perfrmed
different types f tasks in urban and natural envirnments. These studies shwed that peple felt time was stretched(延伸)in nature cmpared t in the city.
Fr example, peple are mre likely t think that a walk in the cuntryside is lnger than a walk f the same distance in the city.Similarly, peple say they feel time passing mre slwly when they d tasks in green natural places than in cities.Nature seems t slw dwn and stretch ur sense f time.
It's nt just ur sense f the present time that seems t be changed by the natural wrld, but als ur sense f the past and future. Research shws that spending time in nature helps mve fcus frm the present needs t future needs.S rather than fcusing n the stress f the needs f ur time, nature helps us t see the bigger picture.
This can help us t take actins s that we can meet ur lng-term gals. Nature als helps us remember past gd time clearly. This is partly because when we spend time in nature, it seems t make us less hurried. It allws us t put ff immediate satisfactin t try t gain lng-term benefits. 30.Accrding t the passage,yu may feel everything slwer and mre relaxed when .
