动词第三人称单数形式的构成有规则变化和不规则变化两种:
①一般在动词词尾直接加shelp-helps cme-cmes
②以s,x,ch,sh结尾的动词,词尾加esguess-guesses mix-mixesteach-teaches wash-washes
③部分以结尾的动词,加esd-des
④以辅音字母加y结尾的动词,改y为i再加esfly-flies study-studies
⑤有些动词的第三人称单数形式是不规则变化have-has

②以不发音的字母e结尾的动词,直接在词尾加ddance-danced
③以“辅音字母+y”结尾的单词,先变y为i,再加edstudy-studied
④以重读闭音节结尾且末尾只有一个辅音字母的动词,先双写末尾的辅音字母,再加edstp-stpped

形容词和副词比较级的构成有规则变化和不规则变化两种:
①一般单音节词和少数以-er、-w结尾的双音节词,直接在后面加-ertall-taller fast-faster
②以不发音的字母e结尾的单音节词,直接在词尾加-rlarge-larger nice-nicer
③以“辅音字母+y”结尾的双音节词,先变y为i,再加-erhappy-happier dry-drier
④在重读闭音节中,先双写末尾的辅音字母,再加-erbig-bigger thin-thinner
⑤其他双音节词和多音节词,在词前加mrebeautiful-mre beautiful
