    Nrwegian explrer Rald Amundsen and British explrer Rbert Falcn Sctt engaged in a race t be the first man t reach the Suth Ple. Bth f them rganised fd bases in preparatin fr their jurney. Amundsen left befre Sctt. He had teams f dgs pulling the sledges and all his men were n skis. Because f this, he made rapid prgress. As fr Sctt's team, tw f their sledges brke dwn and the hrses had difficulties with the cld. As a result, Sctt and his men had t push the sledges themselves. Amundsen reached the Ple ahead f Sctt and put a Nrwegian flag there. Then they prepared fr the return jurney and finally arrived back safely t the starting base. When Sctt's team arrived at the Ple, they were shcked and disheartened t see the Nrwegian flag. Their return jurney was very hard. They were very tired and were running ut f fd. Besides, the weather cnditins were terrible. Despite all the difficulties, they still carried n and als brught rcks back fr scientific evaluatin. Sadly, they didn't make it t the fd bases and all members died n the way.
