On 1 June, 1910, Captain Rbert Falcn Sctt left Lndn t begin his jurney t Antarctica. While he was n the way t Antarctica, he received a message frm the Nrwegian explrer Rald Amundsen which said he was ging suth, t. Then the race t the Suth Ple began!
jurney: 长途旅行,或到国外或远方旅行。travel: 泛指旅行的行为,而不特指某次具体的旅行。tur: 往返旅行,可长可短。vyage: 航海、航空旅行trip: 短距离旅行。
During the plar summer f 1910一1911, bth teams rganised fd bases in preparatin fr their jurneys the next year. Then came the ttal darkness f the plar winter. Sctt and Amundsen waited anxiusly fr spring.

Amundsen was the first t leave n 8 September, 1911. He had teams f dgs pulling the sledges and all his men were n skis. Because f this, he made rapid prgress. Sctt left n 1 Nvember and sn had prblems. First, his tw sledges brke dwn and then the hrses began t have serius difficulties with the snw and the cld. After a while, Sctt and his men had t push the sledges themselves.
