    第一节
    阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中, 选出最佳选项。
    A
There is an ld jke amng pilts that says the ideal flight crew is a cmputer, a pilt and a dg. The cmputer’s jb is t fly the plane. The pilt is there t feed the dg. And the dg’s jb is t bite the pilt if he tries t tuch the cmputer.
Handing cmplex tasks t cmputers is nt new. But recent prgress in machine learning, a subfield f artificial intelligence (AI), has enabled cmputers t handle many prblems which were previusly beynd them. The result has been an AI bm, with cmputers mving int everything frm medical diagnsis and insurance t self-driving cars.
There is a prblem, thugh. Machine learning wrks by giving cmputers the ability t train themselves, which adapts their prgramming t the task at hand. Peple struggle t understand exactly hw thse self-written prgrams d what they d. When algrithms(计算机程序)are ding small tasks, such as playing chess r recmmending a film t watch, this “black bx” prblem can be safely ignred. When they are deciding wh gets a lan, r hw t drive a car thrugh a crwded city, it is ptentially harmful. And when things g wrng, then custmers, regulatrs and the curts will want t knw why.
Fr sme peple this is a reasn t hld back AI. France’s digital-ecnmy minister, Munir Mahjubi, has said that the gvernment shuld nt use any algrithm whse decisins cannt be explained. But that is an verreactin. The difficulties caused by clever cmputers are nt unheard-f. Sciety already has plenty f experience dealing with prblematic black bxes; the mst cmmn are called human beings, wh can’t even figure ut what’s ging n in a brain. In respnse t the weakness in humans, sciety has evlved a series f wrkable cping mechanisms, called laws, rules and regulatins. Many f these can be applied t machines as well.
Humans have wrked with cmputers n cmplex tasks fr decades. One lessn frm such applicatins is that, wherever pssible, peple shuld supervise (监督)the machines. In that jke, pilts are vital in case smething happens that is beynd the scpe f artificial intelligence. As cmputers spread, cmpanies and gvernments shuld ensure the first line f defence is a real persn wh can verrule the algrithms if necessary.

    A. Black bxes always g wrng.
    B. Laws frbid machine learning.
    C. They dn’t understand hw AI wrks.
    D. Cmputers are trying t replace human beings.
    B

In the future, the Internet will be different frm what it is nw. There will be many mre websites. It is predicted that in the year 2100, there will be hundreds f billins f websites. This means that the use f search engines will becme much mre imprtant. And there will als be many mre sites in different languages. This means that n every prper website, there will be links with the language yu want.
Anther predictin n the Internet is that data transmissin (传输)speed will increase glbally. Accrding t Akamai Technlgies, the average glbal data transmissin speed in late 2019 was 26. 7 megabits per secnd. Cmpare that t the recrd fr data transmissin speed set by Bell Labs: 100 billin megabits per secnd. At that speed, yu culd transmit 400 DVDs wrth f data every secnd. That’s an enrmus gap between what’s currently pssible and what’s cmmercially available. But as time passes, the csts f prducing super-high-speed netwrks will decrease.
In the future, peple will live under the sea and the husing shrtage will be slved. There will be lts f glass dmes (穹状建筑物)under the sea, which allw peple t lk all arund int the sea. Air will be prvided via air pipes which lead t the pen air. Yu can travel frm ne dme t anther via a kind f submarine which will als be made f glass. The dmes will be s beautiful and the view under the sea will be s impressive that many peple will prefer t live under water, and less peple will prefer t live n land. This will have a psitive effect n the envirnment n land.
In the future we wn’t use il r gas as energy any mre. We will make use f sunlight, water and wind. Cars will run n water. Just fill yur tank with water, and yu can drive further than yu culd drive with the same amunt f gasline. Als, the exhaust wn’t be damaging t the envirnment, because it’ll just be water vapur.
S the water cycle wn’t change, we’ll keep the same amunt f water n the earth, and we wn’t run ut f water. Als, all energy will be supplied by natural surces: sunlight, wind and water.
    8. What can we knw abut the Internet in the future frm the first tw paragraphs?

The electrnic nse can detect extremely slight smell f mre than ne cmpund at the same time. “Being able t d this, in such a small bject, is the significant discvery”, says Stiris E. Pratsinis, Prfessr f Prcess Engineering & Materials Science at the Swiss Federal Institute f Technlgy in Zurich. His team tested it in special spaces. They were like the small spaces where peple might be trapped. Chemicals given ff by the vlunteers built up inside. The electrnic equipment detected thse cmpunds at unbelievably lw levels.
The results were gd news fr the research team. But they may be nt fr ur fur-legged friends, wh culd sn be ut f a jb. “Ideally, this technlgy culd replace search-and-rescue dgs ” Pratsinis says.
Stephen Taylr, an electrical engineer, agrees that the new technlgy has sme benefits ver dgs. Still, he thinks it may be t sn t have ur trusty friends retire. He suspects, “I fresee that such an bject culd add t the fine wrk dne by the dgs. ” Taylr als pinted ut sme ptential limitatins f the new inventin. “E-nses are useful, but can be very likely t be affected by unstable readings and interruptin,” he says.
