    Jhn Harrisn has an enviable jb in mst peple’s pinin. He’s the fficial taster fr Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream, ne f the best-selling ice cream brands in the US. On an average day, Harrisn has t sample sixty ice creams at the Dreyer’s headquarters. When he isn’t ding that, he travels all ver the cuntry, buying Dreyer’s ice cream in supermarkets s that he can carry ut spt checks (抽查) fr appearance and flavur. But, n matter hw wnderful this jb may sund, it is actually quite tugh. It’s difficult wrk, requiring discipline, selflessness, and thrugh preparatin.
    Befre tasting a sample, Harrisn uses his eyes first. If the ice cream desn’t lk attractive, he skips it. Then, he uses a gld spn instead f ne made f wd, plastic, r ther metal. This is because regular spns leave an aftertaste that can dull the taste buds (味蕾). In additin, the temperature f the ice cream may als influence the taster’s taste buds.
    When Harrisn samples ice cream, he first takes nly a small bite f the ice cream, swishes (使嗖地快速移动) it arund in his muth t intrduce it t each f his taste buds, lightly licks his lips, and then gently breathes in s as t bring the smell up thrugh the back f his muth t his nse. With each step, he carefully sizes up whether the ice cream cnveys the ideal balance between dairy sweetness and the flavur f the added ingredients. And last f all, n matter what the ice cream tastes like, he spits (吐) it ut, since a full stmach makes fr a dull palate (味觉).
    Fr Harrisn, keeping a sharp palate means n nins, garlic, r cayenne pepper. He als desn’t have any cffee r tea, since these blck the taste buds. But t him, this is just a small price t pay fr what he calls “the wrld’s best jb”.
    Harrisn’s family has been in the ice cream business fr fur generatins, and Harrisn himself has spent almst his whle life in it as well. Yet, he has never lst his lve f the cld, creamy sweetness. He rders ice cream in restaurants fr dessert, even when he’s nt at wrk. On these ccasins, he swallws the ice cream, taking in abut a litre a week. Thugh he has gained sme weight ver the years he’s been with Dreyer’s, he culdn’t care less. “Wh wuld trust a skinny ice cream taster?” he jkes.
