Recent research indicates that Ice Age cave art, dating back as far as 40,000 years, may have been partially influenced by a visual psychlgical phenmenn still experienced by humans tday.

The results shwed that lw and unstable lighting cnditins did nt have a strng cnnectin t cave art that uses natural features.
Dr. Wisher argues that the influence f pareidlia was evident in sme, but nt all, f the artwrk, suggests that cave artists may als have been actively lking fr shapes that reminded them f animals within the caves t incrprate int their drawings, as part f a dialgue between the artist’s persnal creativity and the frms seen in the cave walls. The team believes their study ffers the first systematic testing f this thery, and is the first t use simulated lighting cnditins in virtual reality t achieve this.
