The next day, it was dne! G-A-L-E. Huge blue letters with white edges, the schl clrs. I culd see his excitement even surpassed the success itself. Actually, his cach said the wall was part f the 6 t break the recrd.
What happened next was ttally amazing. Many students, even frm ther classes, saw the name n the wall and 7 hw they, t, culd be cnsidered fr the wall. With the enrmus 8 , I had t add mre names t the wall, and mre than 100 names appeared there in the fllwing 10 years.
Many flks admitted they wuld nt have 9 what they did if the wall hadn't been part f the reward. Mre imprtantly, all thse wh stepped far beynd their cmfrt zne helped set the 10 higher.

In early 2018, I was training fr the Lndn Marathn---the first and nly marathn I wuld ever run in my life. I had treated myself t an expensive fitness watch that tracked my time, pace and splits.
At the end f my final training run-an exhausting 21 miles(34km)---I threw myself dwn n the flr the mment I gt hme, nly t see my watch had failed me. Twenty-ne miles briefly flashed n the screen befre it went blank and disappeared fr ever. I screamed in pain. That tragic image f me crying n my living rm flr pretty much sums up my relatinship with exercise tracking technlgy.
It can be a ttal jy t watch yur data change n running apps as yu get strnger and faster. I nce gt a kick ut f it, but at sme pint it became a stick I used t punish myself. I wuld watch my pace, cmpare it with ther peple's r criticize myself fr nt ding it 30 secnds faster. I never really recgnized exercise tracking as a prblem. It seemed t me that tracking was the rute t self- imprvement, and the pint was t imprve, wasn't it? The pint was t be better.
In the past year, the cncept f "being better" has taken n a different meaning. My mental health drpped, and things that were nce easy such as brushing my teeth became unimaginably difficult. Being better stpped meaning getting faster r strnger. It meant taking care f myself and feeling sme jy in a day. Once I started getting better, I reflected n what in my life made me happy and what did nt. S, I stpped tracking my runs and simply deleted years' wrth f data that was nce very imprtant t me and nw meant nthing.
What has becme very clear t me since I quit tracking my runs is that I genuinely lve ding them. I run arund my lcal park with a silly little smile n my face. I lve it s much. But I d nt lve running quickly. I d nt like races. I d nt want t be pushed t be faster. Things I ntice abut iny runs nw include: hw my legs feel and hw my mind feels afterwards-clear and fcused. I ntice dgs, the smell f the wild plants alng the canal and the sunshine (OK, wind and rain)n my face.
I am better. Or smetimes I am wrse. But either way I'm slwly pldding alng, and that's gd enugh.

As higher educatin leaders dive deeper int the cnversatin n Digital Transfrmatin and Educatin 4. 0, they are als learning hw t incrprate the Digital Twins realm cncept int their curricula, because Digital Twin technlgy can serve the university f the future.
A Digital Twin is a virtual representatin f a real bject r system which is updated frm real-time data and uses machine learning, simulatin (模拟), and reasning t help decisin-making. In ther wrds, a Digital Twin can create a highly cmplex virtual mdel which is the exact replica f a physical thing. Cnnected sensrs n a smart campus can cllect data in real time. This data is used t create a map nt the virtual mdel, thus creating a Digital Twin f a campus. When schl administratrs lk at the Digital Twin, they can see crucial infrmatin abut hw the real campus is ding.
The applicatins fr Digital Twin technlgy d nt stp there. Students and faculty can benefit frm using the technlgy as well. Fr example, hybrid classrms have becme mre and mre cmmn nwadays. Digital technlgies have accelerated the transitin int the university f the future. Digital Twin technlgy, ne f the trending technlgies related t Industry 4. 0, helps faculty create simulatin mdels based n curse requirements.
Digital Twin technlgy makes the ultimate immersive learning experience pssible. By using a Digital Twin, students can learn highly engaging tasks which can be t dangerus, cmplex, r expensive fr the classrm. Rather than hands-n labratry dissectin f a physical frg t learn animal science r having t wait fr available human rgans in the health science lab, medical students can use the virtual twin f an animal r human rgans fr their study.
The cmplexity f chemistry r micrbilgy requires students t be ttally engaged. By usingDigital Twins in a Virtual Reality simulated learning experience, faculty can achieve a maximum level f engagement helping each student learn abstract cncepts in their wn unique way and much faster. By running simulatins, students can better explre system behavir under different cnditins, understand failure and develp an understanding f system sensibilities as well as hw changes in the system parameters (参数) and external disruptins make an impact n the results.
Sme universities, such as Stanfrd and Cpenhagen Schl f Marine Engineering, have incrprated Digital Twin technlgy int their teaching curricula, applying it t disciplines like architecture and engineering as they believe they are the reality f the industry. Overall, this enhances student mtivatin, accelerates understanding, and imprves the verall learning experience. Mrever, the industry encurages universities t incrprate educatinal Digital Twins in autmatin t give students the initial understanding f tls and skills they will need in their future.
28. It can be learned frm Paragraph 2 that Digital Twins ______.
A. remain a cnceptB. are virtual cpies f real bjects
C. represent future educatinD. can perate campuses remtely
29. Which f the fllwing statements might the authr agree with?
A. Educatin 4. 0 facilitates the develpment f Digital Twins.
B. New technlgy pses ptential threats t cllege teachers.
C. Digital Twin technlgy in higher educatin is n the hrizn.
D. Virtual classrms have grwn in ppularity under Industry 4. 0.
30. Which f the fllwing shws the structure f the passage?

The idea that we need t eat meat t get enugh prtein and irn, a false assumptin f sme Pale diet (原始饮食) advcates, is a cmmn miscnceptin. It ignres the abundance f prtein and irn in many plant-based fds such as nuts and seeds. Likewise, while we typically assciate mega-3 fatty acids with fish, fish themselves incrprate these int their tissue by eating seaweed, which we can cnsume directly withut the cncerns f expsure t micrplastics in fish flesh.
Indeed, a whle-fd, plant-based diet can prvide all essential nutrients except fr vitamin B12, made by bacteria in sil and ingested by animals, thereby incrprated int their tissue, milk, and eggs.
While mdern sanitatin allws humans t cnsume clean prduce unplluted by dirt, we can easily and cheaply btain ral B12 supplements.
Evidently, significantly reducing ur cnsumptin f meat wuld carry vast benefits. Cardivascular disease remains the leading cause f death arund the wrld. Eating highly prcessed fds and red meat has been repeatedly demnstrated t prmte underlying mechanisms f cancer and cardivascular disease, such as inflammatin (炎症) and damage t the lining f bld vessels (血管).
Munting evidence pints t the benefits f a whle-fd, plant-based diet. Studies frm 2017 fund that a vegetarian diet is assciated with a 25 percent relative risk reductin fr crnary heart disease and an 8 percent relative risk reductin fr cancer, with a vegan diet related t a 15 percent relative risk reductin fr cancer. The Wrld Health Organizatin has classified prcessed meat as carcingenic(致癌的), and (unprcessed) red meat as prbably carcingenic t humans.
In additin t harming urselves, eating meat harms thers. Factry farming practices ften entail unspeakable cruelty t animals, and wrking cnditins fr human labrers are ften unsafe and inhumane as well. Overcrwding f livestck and wrkers prmtes the spread f disease amng bth peple and animals, putting us al at risk fr future pandemics. The veruse f "rutine" antibitics (抗 生素) t accelerate animal grwth and precautiusly treat the infectins anticipated as a result f living in unclean and vercrwded cnditins can prmte antibitic resistance.
While large-scale, well-crdinated natinal and internatinal actin is undubtedly needed t fight unscrupulus factry farming practices-and t ensure the availability f nutritius and healthy fd fr all citizens, thse with greater influence, such as physicians, educatrs and plicy makers, shuld cnsider the imprtance f acting as rle mdels fr healthy behavirs themselves as well as advcating fr plicies that ensure better nutritinal access and educatin fr thers.
All f these shuld nt be excuses fr individuals t resist implementing change in their wn lives and cmmunities. Scieties change when enugh individuals within them alter their behavir, and it is up t each f us t act as a change agent in whatever capacity we can. We wuld all be well served t pull this lever in ur wn lives as well.
31. The authr writes the first tw paragraphs mainly t ______.
A. shw the cncerns f Pale diet advcates
B. cmpare the differences between tw diets
C. highlight the imprtance f nutritin intake
D. pint ut a misunderstanding in nutritin surce
32. Which f the fllwing lgic chains is reasnable accrding t the passage?
33. What des the underlined wrd "unscrupulus" in Paragraph 6 prbably mean?
A. Illegal. B. Unfair. C. Immral. D. Unnecessary.
34. Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A. A Meatless Diet Is Better fr Yu
B. Fd Prblems Call fr Jint Effrts
C. Say N t Prcessed Meat Cnsumptin
D. Eatable Greens r Nt? That Is a Questin

We humans are cmparisn creatures. 35 This quality may have evlved as a means f helping us fit int the scial hierarchy (等级) f the cultures we inhabited. Regardless f the reasns, scial cmparisn plays a significant rle in hw we view and evaluate urselves, and hw we interact with ur wrld.
It used t be that ur primary reference f cmparisn was ur lcal cmmunities, primarily neighbrs and c-wrkers. Because we tend t gather arund thse similar t urselves in terms f educatinal level, wrk incme, and shared interests, the range f differences when we cmpared urselves t thers was fairly small. Unfrtunately, with the emergence f the Internet, we can nw cmpare urselves t literally anyne in the wrld. 36 What had in previus generatins been a small gap in ur cmparisns has nw becme s large and unattainable.
37 When s many peple that are easily discverable n the Internet seem t be s successful, famus, influential and beautiful, given ur preference t cmpare, it is difficult nt t have it influence hw we view urselves. Sadly, these cmparisns usually result in ur feeling inadequate and "less than".
These harmful cmparisns als damage ur emtinal lives. When we feel lacking, we experience a variety f unpleasant and unhealthy emtins. We feel jealusy and envy fr what thers have and what we lack. 38
It's ne thing t realize that yu cmpare yurself t thers. It's anther thing t recgnize that scial cmparisn is ften crrsive (逐步侵蚀的) t yu in s many ways psychlgically and emtinally. It's an entirely ther thing t stp yurself frm cmparing yurself t thers. 39
A. We are cnstantly measuring urselves against ther peple.
B. Yet it is pssible, and it is wrth the effrt fr yur mental health.
C. Thus, we are nw expsed t grups that are quite different frm us.
D. We believe that there is smething wrng with us cmpared t thers.
E. We can even feel bitterness and anger at thers fr the unfairness f it all.
F. Cmparing urselves t thers has the ptential t increase ur life experience.
G. This new level f cmparisn has huge implicatins fr ur psychlgical lives.

Egcentrism is the inability t accurately understand any perspective ther than ne's wn. T thse wh are egcentric, there are tw types f pinins: "mine and the wrng nes".
Egcentrism is very unpleasant. Suffering frm it, peple ften find themselves in a situatin f cnflict r lneliness because they d nt recgnize the rights f thers t their persnal feelings, desires, and interests. They als fail t lk at circumstances frm the ther persn's side.
Humanity must vercme it t see a hlistic (全面的) picture f the wrld and bjectively assess situatins. It is essential t be a fair-minded individual since egcentrism is a quality that is nt easy t live with, making it hard fr us t interact with peple and mve frward.
Actually, vercming this disturbing quality has always been my pursuit. The main gal in my iife is based n the search fr inner balance, harmny, psitivity, and the right attitude t life cases. Thus, I wili be able t imprve my life and help ther peple in the practice f this aspect. Mrever, I ften remind myself t accept differences and remember that a crrect attitude t different persnalities, their preferences, and interests leads t success in any tasks.
The frmatin and develpment f a fair mind can be practiced almst everywhere. Fr example, in a grcery stre, we need t put urselves in the place f the seller's and shuld nt immediately take ffense and argue when we are given an unripe banana r burnt bread. It is imprtant t remember that a seller is nt bliged t play alng at all; this is the same persn with his unique nature.
Nt everyne agrees with everyne else, but if yu abslutely refuse t cnsider anther persn's perspective, that's when egcentrism becmes a serius cncern. S why nt try t crrect this behavir and be mre fair-minded?
40. What is egcentrism?
41. Why des egcentrism ften lead t cnflicts?
42. Please decide which part is false in the fllwing statement, then underline it and explain why.
Egcentrism becmes a prblem when smene desn't agree with thers.
43. Please share ne f yur wn experiences abut yur practicing being fair-minded. (In abut 40 wrds)
