But this was back in a time when little girls weren’t even allwed t fantasize abut such grand gals. “Yu’ll be a gd mmmy,” the firemen tld her. “Yu’ll be a gd teacher, maybe yu’ll be a nurse, but yu can never be a fireman.”
Hwever, life sidelined her dreams. She met her husband, Dennis, wh was diagnsed(诊断)with cancer later. Petersn spent 31 years caring fr the man she lved. At 61, she went n an ambulance ride-alng and Petersn felt that lng-ag childhd calling. She earned her emergency medical technician license and respnded t fire calls with the ambulance. She fund that her years f tending t Dennis had prepared her fr dealing with a variety f hurts and ills. After a year, she tld her bss she wanted t be a firefighter.
The fact that everyne else in her training unit didn’t stp her. She passed the written test, and physical examinatin. Finally, that little girl’s dream became a reality.

In February 2015, a phtgraph f a dress raised heated debate arund the wrld. The disagreement centred n the dress’s clur: sme peple were cnvinced it was blue and black while thers white and gld. Peple culdn’t understand hw, faced with exactly the same phtgraph f exactly the same dress, they culd reach such different cnclusins.
Fr a lng time, peple believed that clurs were bjective, physical features f bjects r f the light that was reflected ff them. But this thery isn’t really true. Different wavelengths f light d exist independently f us but they nly becme clurs inside ur bdies. Every persn's visual system is unique and s are their perceptins(感知). This is why n tw peple will ever see exactly the same clurs.
Anther cause f the prblem is language. Peple generally name nly the clurs they cnsider scially r culturally imprtant. In English we divide clur space int 11 basic terms—black, white, red, yellw, green, blue, purple, brwn, grey, range and pink—but ther languages d things differently. At least ne Indigenus cmmunity has n specific wrds fr any clurs, nly “light” and “dark”. The Aztecs, wh were enthusiastic farmers, used mre than a dzen wrds fr green.
A single clur can mean cmpletely different things in different places and at different times. In the west white is the clur f light, life and purity, but in parts f Asia it is the clur f death. Many peple tday think f blue as masculine(男性的)and pink as feminine(女性的), but nly a hundred years ag baby bys were dressed in pink and girls in blue.
All f this taken tgether, it becmes rather difficult t reach a cnclusin different frm that f the 18th-century philspher David Hume: clur is merely a phantasm f the senses.
    28. What caused a wrld-wide discussin?
    A. The exact clur f the dress. B. The clrful design f the dress.
    C. The changing clur f the dress. D. The number f the dress's clurs.
    29. What was a cmmn misunderstanding f clur?
    A. Wavelengths f light became clurs.
    B. Clurs existed bjectively and physically.
    C. Everyne’s visual system wrked uniquely.
    D. Clurs culd be reflectins f different light.
    30. What des the authr want t tell by the example f the clur “blue” and “pink”?
    A. Clur meanings may vary in places.
    B. Clur can have special gender meanings.
    C. Clur may mean differently in different cultures.
    D. Clur can have varius meanings at different times.
    31. What des the underlined wrds in the last paragraph prbably mean?
    A. Clur desn’t exist in reality. B. Clur desn’t make any sense.
    C. Clur is an imaginatin in mind. D. Clur is independent frm senses.
    D
Over the last tw decades, American technlgy cmpanies and plicymakers warned f a “digital divide” in which pr children culd fall behind their richer peers withut equal access t technlgy. But participatin was arund 51% fr families in a middle-incme range, and just 31% fr families at r belw the pverty line.
A 2021 study f Seattle-area students frm fifth grade thrugh high schl fund that yuth were less likely t take part in sprts than their richer peers. The study als fund that middle schlers frm richer families were three times as likely t meet physical exercise guidelines as less wealthy students.
Schls are nt always filling the gap. A recent reprt frm the Physical Activity Alliance, a nnprfit rganizatin, gave schls natinwide a grade f D-fr physical fitness. That is a dwngrade frm a C-in 2014, with the new grade reflecting even less access t regular physical educatin classes, gym time and equipment in schls. Ann Paulls-Neal, a track cach at Highland High, has nticed that richer students have mre access t club sprts. She thught abut the reasns. Sme families culdn’t affrd private sprts r didn’t have cars r time t ferry their children t practice while richer nes can affrd fr club-team fees, unifrms, equipment, travel t turnaments(锦标赛)and private caching.
    32. Why is “digital divide” mentined in paragraph 1?

    C. T draw attentin t it. D. T ffer backgrund infrmatin.
    33. What d the numbers in paragraph 2 shw?

    B. Richer children are mre likely t d sprts.
    C. Prer children are less interested in sprts.
    D. Mst middle-class children take part in sprts.
    34. What did Ann think was the main reasn fr private sprts divide?
    A. Caching. B. Transprt. C. Mney. D. Equipment.
    35. What is the best title f the the text?
    A. Schls try t fill physical divide. B. Physical divide trubles teenagers.
    C. Digital divide has sharply narrwed. D. Incme gap leads t physical divide.
