In the 1954 study, bys wh were apprximately 11~12 years ld thught that they were participating in a typical summer camp, which tk place at
Rbbers Cave State Park. Hwever, the campers’ parents knew that their children were actually participating in a research study.
The bys arrived at the camp in tw separate grups: fr the first part f the study, they spent time with members f their wn grup, withut

Tw pwerful NASA telescpes have detected the ldest and mst distant black hle ever fund. Data cllected via energetic X-rays by the Chandra
X-ray Observatry and James Webb Space Telescpe has helped astrnmers spt the signature f a grwing black hle within the early universe just
470 millin years after the big bang, which ccurred 13.8 billin years ag. The discvery, described in a study published in Nature Astrnmy, may help
astrnmers figure ut hw sme f the first supermassive black hles frmed in the universe.
“We needed Webb t find this remarkably distant galaxy (星系) and Chandra t find its supermassive black hle, “ said lead study authr Aks
Bgdan, in a statement. ”We als tk advantage f a csmic magnifying glass (宇宙放大镜) that bsted the amunt f light we detected. “ He was
referring t an effect called gravitatinal lensing (引力透镜效应), which ccurs when clser bjects act like a magnifying glass fr distant bjects. Gravity
essentially twists and strengthens the light f distant galaxies in the backgrund f whatever is ding the magnifying, enabling bservatins f therwise
invisible features.
Astrnmers detected the black hle in a galaxy called UHZ1. At first glance, the galaxy appeared in the same directin as a cluster f galaxies
knwn as Abell 2744, which is lcated abut 3. 5 billin light-years frm Earth. But data cllected by the Webb telescpe shwed that UHZl is actually
much farther away and lcated beynd the cluster at 13. 2 billin light-years frm Earth.
The team used the Chandra Observatry t detect superheated gas releasing X-rays within UHZ1, the bvius sign f a supermassive black hle
grwing in size. The detectin was made pssible by the Abell cluster f galaxies, which intensified the light f the UHZ1 galaxy and the X-rays released
by the black hle by a factr f fur.
Astrnmers think the discvery will help them better understand hw supermassive black hles appeared and reached their huge masses s sn
after the beginning f the universe.
