China’s 15-year-ld Chen Ye wn the gld medal in the men’s bwl final f skatebarding （滑板男子碗池决赛）at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhu n Sept 25, 2023.
Chen started getting int this sprt at the age f 8. “I remember ne day I went t a sprts stre, and by chance I saw a skatebard. I decided t give it a try,” Chen tld China Daily. Althugh it was really challenging t stay n the bard at first，Chen fund it very interesting，cmpared with ther hbbies. “Every time I learned sme difficult skills, I felt the jy f making breakthrughs（突破）,” said Chen.
Gradually, Chen needed a better skate bwl fr training. T meet the need, his father decided t make a skate bwl himself. “He gave up his jb and wrked n the bwl late int the night,” said Chen. “I’m really thankful fr my father’s supprt.”
As a junir high schl student, Chen needed t find a balance between his schlwrk and skatebarding. His nly “privilege（特权）” was being free frm P.E. classes, during which he wuld d schlwrk because he needed t practice in his wn skate bwl fr hurs after returning hme. He trained in the mrning, studied in the afternn and smetimes had t have extra classes with the teachers’ help.
