Just then, I heard a scream and saw a climber sliding dwn abut 80 feet, landing n the nly spt that culd have saved him, preventing a fall f 500 t 1,000 feet."
Withut hesitatin, Haveman tk actin. Despite the tugh winds and hail, he risked utside the permanent cable barriers t reach the injured climber. His climbing expertise and extensive medical training were indispensable in this life-threatening situatin.
Haveman recalled the scene, stating, "The climber's legs were badly injured, s I cllected sticks and began climbing nt the ledge. Other climbers were cncerned fr my safety, but the injured climber was in extreme pain, s I left the cable area and jined him n the ledge." Using the simple splint crafted frm sticks, Haveman prvided essential first aid. T prtect the climber frm the elements and apparent shck, Haveman selflessly cvered him with his jacket.
Mments later, a Search and Rescue Park Ranger arrived. Tgether, they helped the patient's drp using a cable ladder, administered further critical medical treatment, and prvided care fr shck. The 2023 Nbel Prize in ecnmics has been awarded t ecnmic histrian Claudia Gldin at Harvard University, "fr having advanced ur understanding f wmen's labr market utcmes". Gldin's wrk has helped t explain why wmen have been under-represented in the labr market fr at least the past tw centuries, and why even tday they cntinue t earn less than men n average by arund 13%.
Gldin mined 200 years f data t analyze hw changes in wmen's participatin in the labr frce have been influenced by scial, plitical and technlgical change ver the past tw centuries. Befre Gldin's studies, it was widely thught that the increase in the percentage f wmen in wrk ver the curse f the 20th century was a reflectin f ecnmic grwth—higher grwth meant mre females culd be emplyed. But by lking back carefully at histrical recrds, Gldin shwed that the percentage f married wmen invlved in paid wrk was at least as high in the late 18th century as it is tday. She als demnstrated that althugh wrk pprtunities fr wmen expanded in the 20th century, they were nt made use f as much as they culd have been.
Gldin has als shwn that inequalities in pay have nt fllwed a simple relatinship with ecnmic grwth. The earning divide between different genders was smaller during the industrial revlutin during 1820-1850; the divide changed little between 1930 and 1980.Gldin shwed in 2010 that being a mther has a key rle in keeping pay inequality, largely thrugh lss f earnings when wmen quit wrk in favr f raising children.
"The strength f her wrk cmes frm cmbining reliable histrical data with insights frm ecnmic theries f wage determinatin, emplyment, discriminatin and plitical ecnmy, "says ecnmist Claudia Olivetti at Dartmuth Cllege. "I am delighted t see Gldin's wrk recgnized. She has been such an inspiratin t many wmen and yung researchers. Leading with passin, curisity and integrity, she taught us t be brave and g fr the big questins. Thanks t Gldin's research, sme cmpanies are nw starting t change their practices with the intrductin f flexible, family-friendly wrking arrangements."
28.Which aspect f the ecnmy des Claudia Gldin fcus n in her wrk?
    A.The labr market.B.The plitical ecnmy.
C.The emplyment inequality.D.The gender pay gap.

A.Mre wrking wmen reflect ecnmic grwth.
B.Jbs have been the same in the past 2 centuries.
C.Ecnmic grwth desn't bring mre wmen int emplyment.
D.Female labr frces have changed greatly since the 18th century.

Researchers frm the University f Cambridge develped a slar-pwered reactr that changes CO2 and plastic waste int sustainable fuels and ther valuable chemical prducts.
The researchers tk their inspiratin frm carbn capture and strage (CCS), where CO2 is cllected and then pumped and stred undergrund. "CCS is a technlgy that's ppular with the fssil (化石) fuel industry as a way t make less harm t the envirnment while cntinuing il and gas explratin, "said prfessr Erwin Reisner."But instead f string CO2, we can make smething useful frm it."
T date, their slar-driven experiments have used pure, cncentrated CO2 frm a cntainer, but fr the technlgy t be f practical use, it needs t be able t actively catch CO2 frm industrial prcesses, r directly frm the air. Hwever, since CO2 is just ne f many types f mlecules (分子) in the air we breathe, making this technlgy selective enugh t transfrm highly diluted (稀释的) CO2 is a huge trial.
The researchers adapted their slar-driven technlgy s that it wrks with flue gas r directly frm the air, transfrming CO2 and plastics int fuel and chemicals using nly the pwer f the sun. By making air flw thrugh the system cntaining a special slutin, the CO2 selectively gets trapped, and the ther gases g ut f it. This prcess allws the researchers t cncentrate the CO2 frm the air in slutin, making it easier t wrk with.
The system has tw parts: n ne side is the CO2 slutin that gets changed int syngas, a simple and green fuel. On the ther plastics are changed int useful chemicals using nly sunlight. "The plastic cmpnent is an imprtant trick t this system," said Dr. Mtiar Rahaman."Cllecting and using CO2 frm the air makes the chemistry mre difficult. But, if we add plastic waste t the system, the plastic dnates electrns t the CO2.The plastic is brken dwn t useful chemicals and the CO2 is transfrmed int syngas. "
32.What is the advantage f the new system cmpared with CCS?
A.It can turn waste int treasure.B.It cllects CO2 in varius situatins.
C.It des n harm t the envirnment.D.It gains ppularity amng cmpanies.
33.What des the underlined wrd "trial" prbably mean in paragraph 3?
    A.Advancement.B.Difficulty.C.Switch.D.Test.
34.Why is the special slutin used?
A.T cllect CO2 frm the air.B.T let air pass the system.
C.T help plastics break dwn.D.T react with and repurpse CO2.
35.Which can be the best title fr the text?
    A.The First Slar-pwered Reactr B.New Technlgy f Reducing CO2
C.Game-changing Cncept f Recycling D.Clean Fuels Made frm Air and Plastic

根据画线词上文中的“The climber's legs were badly injured, s I cllected sticks and began climbing nt the ledge.”
根据第一段“Jshua Haveman, a flight instructr, demnstrated exceptinal curage and resurcefulness...” 由此可以看出Haveman是足智多谋的;根据第五段中的“Other climbers were cncerned fr my safety, but the injured climber was in extreme pain, s I left the cable area and jined him n the ledge.”和“T prtect the climber frm the elements and apparent shck, Haveman selflessly cvered him with his jacket.”
    28.答案:D
解析:从第一段中的"having advanced ur understanding f wmen's labr market utcmes" "Gldin's wrk has helped t explain... why even tday they cntinue t earn less than men n average by arund 13%"和下文内容可知, Claudia Gldin利用大量可靠的历史数据,结合现代的经济学分析方法研究性别 引起的收入差异、影响女性就业的因素等。故选D项。
Befre Gldin's studies, it was widely thught that the increase in the percentage f wmen in wrk... culd be emplyed" "Gldin shwed that the percentage f married wmen invlved in paid wrk... they were nt made use f as much as they culd have been"可知,在Gldin 的研究之前,人们普遍认为20世纪女性劳动力参与率的提高是经济增长的反映—经济增长意味着更多女性会被雇用。
Gldin shwed in 2010 that being a mther has a key rle in keeping pay inequality, largely thrugh lss f earnings when wmen quit wrk in favr f raising children"可知,Gldin在2010年表示成为母亲在维持 收入不平等中起着关键作用,主要是因为女性放弃工作来抚养孩子带来了收入 损失。

    32.答案:A
解析:根据第二段中的“The researchers tk their inspiratin... cllected and then pumped and stred undergrund”和“But instead f string CO2, we can make smething useful frm it”可知,与碳捕存相比,新的系统可 以将二氧化碳变为有用的东西。
    34.答案:A
解析:根据倒数第二段中的“By making air flw thrugh the system cntaining a special slutin, the CO2 selectively gets trapped, and the ther gases g ut f it”可知,通过 使空气流过含有特殊溶液的系统,二氧化 碳被选择性地捕获,而其他气体则被排 出。

故填and。
由时间状语ver the past fur years可知,此处要用现在完成时;“the number f+名词”作主语时,谓语动词用单数形式。故填has increased。
