As I walked int the Gerge Eastman Museum’s Dryden Theater, I felt as thugh I had stepped int a time machine. On the way t the traditinal, ld-timey bx ffice, tns f vintage mvie psters and the theater entrance made me feel like I was n Bradway. As everyne tk their seats, an lder gentleman wh lked like he walked straight ut f the 1920s gave the attendees a histrical backgrund f the film we were seeing-The Barker.
The film itself, which was released in 1928, is cnsidered a “part-talkie”. Befre films included synchrnized (同步的) sund, films were played with live accmpaniment and cntained subtitles t add cntext. With the inventin f synchrnized sund, films slwly added talking dialgue in scenes thrughut the film; these films were cnsidered “part-talkies”.
The Barker, which explres the lives f carnival wrkers, is the talking debut (首次登场) f all f the main cast. The film was revlutinary nt nly fr the technlgy but als fr the actrs. My film experience cnsists f mstly talkies, s when I finished The Barker, I felt like I witnessed smething brand new fr the first time.
The experience I had at Dryden Theater was unlike any mvie-ging experience I had ever had. The music, the film, and the atmsphere itself were cmpletely unique! Since viewing films has gradually been switched t streaming services, especially since the pandemic, this has bth increased the accessibility f films and stripped us f reliance n a scial experience t watch a mvie-ne that attending The Barker reminded me f.
“Barbenheimer”, a phenmenn that cntrasts the bvius differences in the recently released mvies Barbie and Oppenheimer, allwed us t return t the mvie-ging adventure. Finally, everyne wanted big screens and surrund sund rather than the tiny screens in bedrms. Mre imprtantly, we were all able t interact with a piece f cntent alngside ther peple. “Barbenheimer” brught back the pastime f ging t the cinema-ne that I think we shuld cntinue t engage in. I say we take a page ut f the 1920s playbk and return t the cinema.
24.Wh helped the audience knw better abut the histrical backgrund f The Barker?
A.A star wh was cast in the mvie.

C.An elderly gentleman frm the 1920s.
D.A staff member wrking at the bx ffice.
    25.Which f the fllwing is true f “part-talkies”?
    A.The Barker is a “part-talkie”.
    B.“Part-talkies” are ttally silent.
    C.“Part-talkies” invlve live accmpaniment.
D.The films befre The Barker are “part-talkies”.
26.What des the underlined wrd “stripped” in paragraph 4 prbably mean?
    A.Accused.B.Infrmed.C.Rbbed.D.Warned.
    27.What des the authr suggest?

B.Interacting mre with peple arund us.
C.Engaging in “Barbenheimer” and watching The Barker.
D.Reading mre vintage playbks befre watching mvies.
    【答案】24.B 25.A 26.C 27.A
根据第一段“As everyne tk their seats, an lder gentleman wh lked like he walked straight ut f the 1920s gave the attendees a histrical backgrund f the film we were seeing-The Barker. (当大家落座时,一位看起来像是直接从20世纪20年代走出来的年长绅士给在场的人介绍了我们正在看的电影《列兵巴克》的历史背景。)”可知,这位看上去来自过去的年长绅士向观众介绍电影的背景,让观众更好地了解它的背景。故选B项。
25.细节理解题。根据第二段“The film itself, which was released in 1928, is cnsidered a “part-talkie”. (这部电影于1928年上映,被认为是一部“半有声电影”)”可知,《列兵巴克》是一部半有声电影。故选A项。

根据最后一段“Mre imprtantly, we were all able t interact with a piece f cntent alngside ther peple. “Barbenheimer” brught back the pastime f ging t the cinema-ne that I think we shuld cntinue t engage in. I say we take a page ut f the 1920s playbk and return t the cinema. (更重要的是,我们都能够与其他人一起与一段内容进行互动。Barbenheimer使去电影院消遣重新流行起来——我认为我们应该继续参与其中。我建议我们借鉴20世纪20年代的剧本,回到影院。)”可知,作者认为在影院观看电影有益于与电影内容的互动,建议大家回到影院,拥有更多的大屏幕体验。故选A项。

The mst belved bird in histry may very well have been a 29-year-ld pigen by the name f Martha. It was the early 1900s, and Martha was at the height f her fame. Perched n her humble rst at the Cincinnati Z, she was an bject f fascinatin t the thusands f visitrs wh lined up just t catch a glimpse. Irnically, the passenger pigens’ very abundance may have spelled their dm. An agricultural pest and reliable surce f prtein, they became easy targets fr hunters wh killed them in the tens f thusands. In a matter f decades, a bird that nce numbered in the billins was reduced t a few, and then, eventually, t ne.

Fr as lng as the Earth has sustained life, it has als seen the permanent disappearance f life frms, the dinsaurs being a particularly extreme example. But Martha’s high-prfile death trained natinal attentin n an alarming new trend. Clse t a thusand animal species alne have died ff in the last 500 years, and the trend is nly getting wrse.
28.What caused the extinctin f passenger pigens?
    A.The lss f their habitats.B.The wrsening f glbal warming.
C.The burning f fssil fuels.D.Their nutritinal value and threat t farming.

B.T shw the extinctin f a certain species is nt a rare case.
C.T explain human activities are t blame fr species extinctin.
D.T stress immediate measures shuld be taken befre it is t late.
30.What is the authr’s attitude twards the new trend f species extinctin?
    A.Optimistic.B.Cnfused.C.Relieved.D.Cncerned.
31.What is the main idea f the passage?
A.The mst belved bird Gerge died.
B.Birds are the best friends f human beings.
C.The tragic lss f the last passenger pigen.

由文章最后一段中“Of curse, the real tragedy was that the lss f the passenger pigen was neither surprising nr unique. Fr as lng as the Earth has sustained life, it has als seen the permanent disappearance f life frms, the dinsaurs being a particularly extreme example. (当然,真正的悲剧是,旅鸽的损失既不令人惊讶,也不独特。只要地球上有生命存在,它就见证了生命形式的永久消失,恐龙就是一个特别极端的例子。但玛莎高调的死亡让全国关注到一个令人担忧的新趋势。在过去的500年里,近1000种动物灭绝,而且这种趋势只会变得更糟。)”可知,最后一段提到恐龙表明某一物种灭绝的情况并不罕见。故选B。

When starting my sixth-grade year, I was nervus abut many things. But nthing cmpared t the prblem that I gt t the age where my vice started changing. At first, the vice getting deep excited me. But then I learned befre getting deeper, it can crack (变嘶哑).
The first time it happened I was s embarrassed. Surprisingly, my friends didn’t make fun f me. In fact, they didn’t even mentin it. But in my self-cnscius sixth-grade mind I was certain they made fun f me behind my back. They weren’t having the same prblem.
After my first vice crack experience, I was determined t make sure it wuldn’t happen again. At least nt in public. S, except fr strategic times I said, “cl” and “yeah”, I didn’t talk. My lgic was, “If I dn’t use my vice, it cannt crack.” Hwever, I culdn’t g withut talking frever. I needed a new slutin.
I began clearing my thrat befre speaking, which actually seemed t help. Limiting hw much I spke and clearing my vice made me much less stressful. This was great but there was a larger prblem. I was much mre scared abut having a vice crack during class. My class had many new kids I’d never spken with. I didn’t want their first impressins f me t be based n a vice crack.
Unfrtunately, ne day my cncern came true. It was abut tw mnths after the beginning f the term. On the day it happened everything was the same as always until I gt int the classrm. I nticed that we had a substitute teacher (代课老师) and immediately started thinking abut hw he wuld take attendance. My permanent teacher never had t, since he already knew each student, I panicked. S many thughts rushed thrugh my mind that I culdn’t think straight. I calmed myself dwn by telling myself that I nly had t say ne wrd “Here”. “Easy enugh, right?” I thught s until my name was called. I did my rutine — cleared my thrat, tk a breath, and said, “Here.” The nly prblem was that while saying this, I had the wrst vice crack in the histry f vice cracks.

    ①希望:wish/hpe
    ②冲出:rush ut/run ut
    ③经受:g thrugh/experience
