It’s well-knwn that sunshine influences peple’s health. And new research shws it may als make peple eat mre—but nly if they’re male*.
The finding is frm Carmit Levy, a researcher wh had been studying hw sunlight affects the risk f skin diseases. She expsed* a grup f mice t sunlight fr a few weeks, and unexpectedly fund that sunlight made male mice get heavier, but nt females*. The males als wrked harder t get fd that was difficult t reach.

The 1.661 wmen needed abut 1,500 calries each day all year lng.
Encuraged by this, the team ran mre muse experiments t test what might explain such findings. And the reasn may be cnnected with these three things. The first is p53. Its levels will rise when the bdy is under stress. Fr animals that are usually active at night, such as mice, sunlight can be a cause f stress. The secnd key player is ghrelin. When the stmach is empty, it travels t the brain t send the message that the bdy needs fd. The last is estrgen*. Its levels are much higher in females than males.
Here’s what may happen in male mice expsed t sunlight. First, the stress f sunlight makes p53 in the skin start t wrk. This p53 then tells the skin t create ghrelin. Therefre, the mice eat mre. But in female mice, the estrgen seems t interfere the prductin f ghrelin. As a result, the female mice may nt feel s hungry. C.see hw many calries men and wmen need thrugh a year
D.check if peple are affected by sunlight in the same way as mice
25.What des the underlined wrd “interfere” prbably mean?

A.The p53 in the skin f mice will rise when night falls.
B.The ghrelin culd make mice’s stmachs empty mre quickly.
C.The scientists have been able t cntrl peple’s need fr fd.
D.The estrgen may prtect female mice frm the stress f sunlight.
