    “The brain is a large and very heat-sensitive rgan that als generates a lt f heat,” says lead authr Tina Lasisi. “S we figured that culd be extremely imprtant fr early humans living in Africa under the ht sun.”
    T better understand hw hair can affect the temperature f the head, Lasisi and her clleagues placed three different wigs (假发) r n wig n a research manikin (人体模型). The manikin was heated t a bdy temperature f 35℃ and placed under ht lights. The scientists measured the temperature n the manikin’s head when cvered with n wig and wigs that have straight hairs, lse curls r tight cils (卷) which are similar in thickness and clr.
    Under the lights heating at 30℃, the biggest difference in heat was between n hair and hair. The manikin head always became htter, but adding the straight-haired wig reduced that heat gain by mre than half cmpared t a head with n wig. The curled wig made the scalp area less ht than the straight-haired wig, and the tightly-ciled wig led t the clest head.
    Anther experiment als dne by Lasisi’s team aimed t simulate (模拟) sweat n the head by wetting the manikin. In this case, bald head cled the mst thrugh evapratin f water.
