Cmfrt fd makes a persn feel gd. Fd high in sugar r fat tends t imprve md by stimulating the brain’s reward system. S it makes sense that many f us may turn t fd fr cmfrt in times f stress. There’s sme fascinating research that examines fd as a surce f cmfrt. Hwever, the mst interesting thing abut this research may be that fds are far less cmfrting than we tend t believe they are.
Traci Mann, a prfessr f psychlgy, and clleagues cnducted a series f study with cllege students. The researchers examined hw much cmfrt fds actually imprve md. They prvided students with ne f the three fds that they had indicated were their tp, persnal cmfrt fds. After prducing a negative md by having them watch mvie clips designed t increase their sadness, anger and anxiety, the researchers ffered the students their cmfrt fd.
They had t assess (评估) hw they felt befre and after they were suppsedly cmfrted by ice cream, pizza r whatever they had indicated they typically ate t feel better. All f the students cmpleted the study n tw separate ccasins: nce when they were able t eat their cmfrt fd and nce when they were able t eat anther fd they liked, but they wuldn’t call a cmfrt fd. The researchers fund that cmfrt fd did imprve students’ mds — but nly by a little bit and nt mre than the ther fd they liked.
In anther study, cmfrt fd was cmpared t n fd at all, and students’ mds seemed t imprve even when they didn’t eat anything—mst likely just due t the passage f time.
The take-hme message frm the studies? While the cmfrt fd may make the persn feel better fr the time being, it des little t address emtinal prblems. Of curse, everyne can indulge(纵情)in a cmfrt fd frm time t time, but verall, aim fr these instances t be the exceptin rather than the rule.
28.Which aspect f cmfrt fd d Tract Mann’s studies fcus n?
A.The means by which it affects md.B.Its rle in reducing negativity.
C.Its impact n physical health.D.The extent t which it lifts md.

C.By cllecting data abut peple frm all walks f life
D.By cmparing students’ feelings n different ccasins.
30.What des the authr intend t d in the last paragraph?
A.T explain a rule.B.T intrduce a cncept.
C.T make a suggestin.D.T present a fact.
31.What is a suitable title fr the text?
A.The Science behind Cmfrt FdB.Cmfrt Fd May nt Wrk Wnders

Peple with genetic syndrmes (综合症) smetimes have telltale (泄露私密的) facial features, but using them t make a quick and cheap diagnsis can be tricky given there are hundreds f pssible cnditins they may have. A new neural netwrk that analyzes phtgraphs f faces can help dctrs narrw dwn the pssibilities.
Yarn Gurvich at bitechnlgy firm FDNA in Bstn and his team built a neural netwrk t lk at the gestalt — r verall impressin — f faces and return a list f the 10 genetic syndrmes a persn is mst likely t have.
They trained the neural netwrk, called DeepGestalt, n 17, 000 images crrectly labelled t match mre than 200 genetic syndrmes. The team then asked the AI t identify ptential genetic disrders frm a further 502 phts f peple with such cnditins. It included the crrect answer 91 per cent f the time.
Gurvich and his team als tested the neural netwrk’s ability t distinguish between the different genetic mutatins (变异) that can lead t the same syndrme. They used phtgraphs f peple with Nnan syndrme, which can result frm mutatins in any ne f five genes. DeepGestalt crrectly identified the genetic surce f the physical appearance 64 per cent f the time. It’s clearly nt perfect, but it’s still much better than humans are at trying t d this.
As the system makes its assessments, the facial regins that were mst helpful in the determinatin are highlighted and made available fr dctrs t view. This helps them t understand the relatinships between genetic make-up and physical appearance.
The fact that the diagnsis is based n a simple phtgraph raises questins abut privacy. If faces can reveal details abut genetics, then emplyers and insurance prviders culd, in principle. secretly use such techniques t discriminate against peple wh have a high prbability f having certain disrders. Hwever, Gurvich says the tl will nly be available fr use by clinicians (临床医生). Clinically this technlgy can help narrw dwn the search space f diagnsis and then cnfirm thrugh checking genetic markers. Besides, it culd perhaps add means f finding ther peple with the disease and, in turn, help find new treatments r cures.
32.What can we knw abut DeepGestalt?
A.It can be trained t crrectly label the images f peple.
B.It can crrectly identify genetic mutatins 91% f the time.
C.It is built t lk at faces and identify genetic disrders.
D.It is much better than humans at trying t identify physical appearance.
33.Why are certain facial regins highlighted in the assessment prcess?
A.T help cnfirm the diagnsis.B.T help make the system mre understandable.
C.T help the system quickly recgnize peple .D.T help identify a cnditin and make a diagnsis.
34.What’s the best title f this text?
A.Tricky facial featuresB.Faces let AI spt genetic disrders
C.Facial features give yu away t dctrsD.DeepGestalt: a magic cure fr genetic syndrmes
35.What’s the authr’s attitude twards the technlgy?
A.Psitive.B.Neutral.C.Indifferent.D.Critical.
