[2023·云南省第一次高中毕业生统一检测]This year, new technlgies will enable mre drivers t take their hands ff the steering wheel (方向盘) while n the rad. But that desn't mean their cars will be fully selfdriving—that day still remains far in the future.
Autmakers like General Mtrs (GM), Frd and Stellantis are intrducing, r upgrading existing technlgies. But in the wrds f Kay Stepper, an autmated driving expert, these systems are “feet ff” and “hands ff”, but they will nt be “eyes ff” r “mind ff”.
Fr the time being, these systems will nly be used n limitedaccess highways, where there are n pedestrians r bicyclists. Vehicles with this technlgy will be able t drive at relatively high speeds, but nly in simple traffic situatins.
Bryan Reimer, a researcher with the Massachusetts Institute f Technlgy's AgeLab, said it will be decades befre peple can buy truly selfdriving cars in which humans ride as passengers.
Still, the technlgy that will be rlled ut by the majr autmakers this year will d mre than mst scalled Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, r ADAS, d nw.
GM's Super Cruise system allws drivers t cmpletely let g f the steering wheel while driving n selected highways. It was intrduced in 2017 n the Cadillac CT6 sedan, which was discntinued last year. An imprved versin is cming this year n the Cadillac Escalade SUV and the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 sedans.
Super Cruise nly wrks n highways that have been previusly lasermapped in three dimensins. GPS psitining and the vehicles' radar sensrs (传感器) and cameras are used t enable drivers t unhand all the cntrls.
Drivers still need t pay attentin, hwever. A camera in the car makes sure the driver is lking at the rad at all times. If the driver lks away frm the rad fr mre than a few secnds, the system will stp wrking.
