Instead, he sees it as an pprtunity t raise awareness abut a destructive flwer that grew rapidly in the state fllwing an unusually wet winter: wild black mustard (芥末). The plant frm Eurasia was first brught t Califrnia in the 1700s.
Mustard was amng the mst nticeable f wild flwering plants that appeared unexpectedly everywhere in Califrnia this spring. As temperatures warm it is starting t die, making it easy t cause wildfires. Mustard is als a threat t native plants, transfrming the landscape. Its leaves and rts prevent the grwth f ther species.
Kingery is part f a grwing grup f artists, designers and chefs wh are tackling the prblem by harvesting the plant t use in everything frm dyes t fds.
Kingery’s line features sweatshirts, pants, and ther items dyed naturally using mustard. Artist Erin Berkwitz f Berb Studi makes dyes frm the species, including the dye fr Kingery’s clthing line. She has ffered classes alng with a chef wh makes fd ut f the mustard greens and flwers. Berkwitz said her wrk with Kingery shwed the pssibilities f what can happen if mre peple becme aware f its uses.
T that end, artist Nadine Allan made a digital magazine, abut the uses f black mustard, including t make paper and a face mask.

Animals frm mainland Africa wuld have been trapped n large rafts (木筏) f vegetatin and flated t Madagascar, where they eventually evlved (进化) int the wildlife we knw tday. Sme 95 percent f wildlife are endemic t the cuntry, which means they live nwhere else in the wrld.
Scientists have three majr theries t explain hw land animals gt t Madagascar: The species were there befre Madagascar divided and became an island, they swam and/r rafted acrss frm mainland Africa when currents flwed that way, r they crssed land bridges that might have existed at different perids.
In their study, Jasn Ali, the study c-authr, and Blair Hedges, a bilgist at Temple University, pulled tgether a large amunt f previusly published research t test each f these pssible rigin stries.
The team cmpared the genes f 28 grups f land animals, including animals frm mdern-day Madagascar, with the genes f species n mainland Africa that are the clsest relatives. Based n this infrmatin, they calculated the likely time when the ancestr f each species grup likely arrived in Madagascar, then evlved int smething new.

Thse systems, and the lessns Lunar Flashlight taught us, will be used fr future missins.”
The missin’s fur-laser reflectmeter, a science instrument that had never flwn befre, either, als tested successfully, giving the missin’s science team cnfidence that the laser wuld have been able t detect ice if it were present at the lunar surface.
“It’s disappinting fr the science team, and fr the whle Lunar Flashlight team, that we wn’t be able t use ur laser reflectmeter t make measurements n the Mn,” said Barbara Chen, the missin’s principal investigatr. “But like all the ther systems, we cllected a lt f in-flight perfrmance data n the instrument that will be incredibly valuable t future applicatin f this technique.”
