As it turns ut, different types f memries are stred in distinct regins f ur brains. Lng-term memry is divided int tw types: declarative and prcedural.
There are tw types f declarative memry. Memries f experiences such as the day we started schl are called episdic memry(情景记忆). This type f recall is ur interpretatin f an episde r event that ccurred. Factual knwledge, n the ther hand, such as the capital f France, is part f semantic memry(语义记忆). These tw types f declarative memry cntent have ne thing in cmmn—yu are aware f the knwledge and can cmmunicate the memries t thers.
Skills such as playing an instrument r riding a bicycle are, hwever, based n a separate system, called prcedural memry, which is respnsible fr perfrmance.
One f the mst famus studies shwing the separate memry systems was that f an epileptic(癫痫病患者) named Henry Mlaisn (H. M.). In the 1950s he underwent the remval f prtins f his brain. After the peratin dctrs fund that many f H. M.’s memries f the time befre the peratin were als erased.
In ne test, researchers asked H. M. t trace a five-pinted star n a sheet f paper while nly lking at it and his hand in a mirrr—meaning the image was reversed. Althugh H. They felt s lucky that they didn’t meet the wlf n their way here. “Thanks a millin!” I wuld have died withut yu.” Mac turned t Paul and Becky. “It’s nthing,” they replied with a smile. Knwing that Mac and his friends were als heading fr Alasa, Paul ffered t give them a case in case they might encunter sme dangerus again. Bathed in the sunshine, they set ff fr their jurney again.

These wrds like a ray f sunshine warmed his heart. After Mac explained t them, they extend their sincere thanks t Paul and Becky. Afterwards Mac and his friends rerurned pedaling hme. On the way hme, the night breeze made him feel at ease and he culdn’t wait t share his experience with his wife and daughters.
