It seemed risky t travel with strangers, but my instinct said yes. Fr the next tw weeks, I explred Israel with the backpackers and learned t trust my instincts in all types f new and interesting situatins. When they hk a ride, I tk the bus, but when they wanted t steal int the King David Htel’s swimming pl, I led the way.
The wrld pened up t me because I chse t travel alne. I jined cmplete strangers, wh becme clse friends. Years later, ne cuple frm the backpacking grup even flew frm Sydney t Phenix t be in my wedding. The trip was such a special experience that it gave me cnfidence in all areas f my life. Since then, I’ve backpacked alne acrss Suth Africa, sky-dived frm 12,000 feet in New Zealand and even mved acrss the U.S. with n jb lined up.
On my third day wandering in Israel with my new friends, I bumped int the wman I was suppsed t meet. Thugh I was happy she was all right, I was grateful she hadn’t picked up the phne.

There are different reginal accents acrss the UK, and a number f regins have several different dialects-that is, they have their wn unique vcabulary and grammatical phrases. There are many different accents native t Lndn, because it is nt just where a persn is brn in the UK that decides their accent. Language and accents als differ acrss class and level f educatin. Therefre, the recent rise f a new accent cined at the end f the 20th century, “Multicultural Lndn English.” Other factrs are als imprtant in the inventin f new accents and ways f speaking. These include the influence f peple frm different racial(种族的) backgrunds and different age grups, t.
The wrd “yf’ is a slang spelling f “yuth”. Sme peple cnsider “yf” t be a negative term, since its prnunciatin is easier and lazier than yuth. Other peple see the term as psitive, because it describes hw yung peple are creating their wn language, cncepts and identity. By using wrds that their parents dn’t understand, children can talk abut things that their parents might nt agree with. In this way, yung peple are starting t find freedm, independence and self-expressin. They are creating a “yf culture”. A few features(特点)f the yf style f language are as fllws:
· instead f “think”, “the”, “that”, “what” and “because”, yf will say “fink”, “da”, “dat”, “wt” and “cz”.
· instead f using a variety f tag questins like “., isn’t it?” r “... dn’t they?”, yf will use the all-purpse “innit” (e.g. “It’s ht, innit! ”r “Yu can dance really well, innit!”)
· instead f “I dn’t care!”, yf will say “Whatever!”.
Certain grups f sciety feel threatened by “yf culture” r by the British wrking classes having mre scial freedm. As a result, a negative term nw cmmnly used in the UK is “chav”.It is an insult(辱骂)and is meant t describe smene wh is uneducated and anti-scial (e.g. “He’s a chav!” ). A yung persn wh wears a jacket with a hd-after all, it is ften cld and rains a lt in the UK-is smetimes called a ‘hdie’. It is a negative term again and suggests that the yung persn is interested in cmmitting a crime(犯罪).
Learners f English ften feel that the best test f their English is hw well they can talk t a native speaker, but perhaps they shuld wrry less abut this. In fact, when we think abut ‘internatinal English’, there is n such thing as a native r nn-native speaker. The UK n lnger wns the English language.
8. Which f the fllwing is NOT mentined as a factr in the inventin f new accents?

11. What is the main idea f paragraph 3?
A. Yung peple are mre likely t cmmit a crime.
B. Yf culture has a bad influence n yung peple.
C. Certain grups have negative ideas f the yf culture.
D. Different peple have different attitudes twards yf culture.

IT’S A TYPICAL mrning: yu wake up, take a shwer, brush yur teeth, and then prick (刺;扎) yur arm with a tiny needle. Wait, what? Unless yu have a serius disease such as diabetes, yu prbably haven’t ever tested yur wn bld. But in the future, that might change.
The cmpany Cr already sells a system fr hme bld testing. Yu stick yur arm using a suppsedly painless, ne-ff, bld-drawing cartridge (针筒) abut the size f a lipstick. Then yu stick the cartridge int a device (装置) that lks like the base fr an electric tthbrush. A few minutes later, an app n yur phne buzzes with updated infrmatin, including yur current health data (数据) and tips n what t eat and hw t exercise during the day.
It’s true that bld cntains a wealth f infrmatin abut a persn’s health. Bld tests can shw if a persn is infected with a disease r at risk fr a variety f prblems, including a heart attack r a strke. But mst peple dn’t test their wn bld until a dctr says it’s time. Healthy yung adults get regular bld tests abut every five years. These tests happen at a lab, where a technician r a nurse sticks a lng needle int the arm t draw ut several tubes full f bld. Cr and similar cmpanies, such as WellnessFX, are trying t change all that. They think peple deserve access t mre infrmatin abut their wn health.
But nt everyne is cnvinced that regular bld testing fr healthy peple is a great idea. Cr’s system is expensive and may nt ffer much benefit. “The lightest result here is that yu lse yur mney and then yu’re reminded t get mre sleep and t eat mre fruits, vegetables, and fish,” Pieter Chen f Harvard Medical Schl tld the New Yrk Times. “The wrst result is that yu end up getting frightened by prbably abnrmal results that are actually cmpletely nrmal fr yu.”
Plus, the results f a hme bld test might be wrng. It’s hard t get accurate results frm a tiny amunt f bld. S what d yu think? Is mnitring yur wn health via pinpricks the way f the future? Or is it better t leave bld testing t medical prfessinals?
12 Why des the authr mentin the typical mrning in the first paragraph?
A. T explain a scene. B. T make a cmparisn.
C T prvide an example.D. T intrduce the tpic.
13. What can we learn abut the cmpany Cr’s bld-testing system?
A. It is painless and cheap t use.
B. It has wn ppularity amng peple.
C. It ffers accurate health infrmatin abut ur bdy.
D. It may give advice n ur diet accrding t the health data.
14. What’s Pieter Chen’s attitude twards this kind f system?
A. Negative.B. Unclear.C. Supprtive.D. Objective.
15. Which f the fllwing culd be the best title fr the text?
A. Hme bld testing: yur health mnitr! B. Hme bld tests: yes r n?
C. A new system f imprving yur health.D. Shuld bld tests be allwed at hme?
