Fifteen years ag, I tk a summer vacatin in Lecce in suthern Italy. After climbing up a hill fr a panramic view f the blue sea, white buildings and green live trees, I paused t catch my breath and then psitined myself t take the best pht f this panrama.
Unfrtunately, just as I tk ut my camera, a wman apprached frm behind, and planted herself right in frnt f my view. Like me, this wman was here t stp, sigh and appreciate the view.
Patient as I was, after abut 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the sht I wuld eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it t much t ask her t mve s I culd take just ne picture f the landscape? Sure, I culd have asked her, but smething prevented me frm ding s. She seemed s cntent in her bservatin. I didn’t want t mess with that.
Anther 15 minutes passed and I grew bred. The wman was still there. I decided t take the pht anyway. And nw when I lk at it, I think her presence in the pht is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful n its wn, smehw cmes t life and breathes because this wman is engaging with it.
This pht, with the unique beauty that unflded befre me and that wman wh “ruined” it, nw hangs n a wall in my bedrm. One f the things that culd transfrm lives is a smart walking stick designed by engineers frm Yung Guru Academy (YGA) in Turkey. The WeWalk stick has a sensr that detects hurdles abve chest level and uses vibratins (振动) t warn the user. It can be paired with a smartphne t help navigatin, and is cnnected with a vice assistant and Ggle Maps.
Ceylan, wh has been blind since birth, says that cnnecting the stick t the Internet f Things and smart city slutins makes it user-friendly. “As a blind persn, when I am at the Metr statin I dn’t knw which is my exit ... I dn’t knw which bus is appraching ... which stres are arund me. That kind f infrmatin can be prvided with the WeWalk,” he says.
“The smart walking stick is really an exciting initiative that will make a huge difference t sme peple,” says Anna Lawsn, the directr f the Center fr Disability Studies at Leeds University in the United Kingdm. “But they are very expensive ... they’re nt ging t be available t the vast majrity f disabled peple,” she added.

Scientists frm Deakin University in Australia have traced hw abut 30 species changed acrss varius time perids in respnse t rising temperatures. The animals’ shape-shifting changes make sense, researchers say. Later, a bilgist, Jel Asaph Allen further expanded the cncept, saying that animals that adapted t cld climates have shrter limbs (肢) and bdily appendages — t keep the warmth in. Fifteen years ag, I tk a summer vacatin in Lecce in suthern Italy. After climbing up a hill fr a panramic view f the blue sea, white buildings and green live trees, I paused t catch my breath and then psitined myself t take the best pht f this panrama.
