    As an English teacher, I fund that English slang(俚语) can be mre difficult fr thse wh learn English as a secnd language t understand. It can be cnfusing t. This became clear when I was talking t ne f my students, Cathy, in Japan. "Excuse me, Miss White. I want t g t buy a ntebk utside the schl." "It's bucketing utside," I said. It is an English slang expressin which means "it is raining". Hwever, she didn't seem t understand what I said.
    The pint I'm trying t get acrss is that being puzzled abut English slang in the beginning is rather natural because it is what makes the language special. But learning sme slang is a fantastic way f understanding the culture f a cuntry. English des have sme interesting slang. Here is sme f my favrite slang which is cmmn in Nrthern Ireland.

    T be in bed with yur head: This is used t describe smene wh has gne t bed because he/she has a headache.
    T upset the apple cart: This means that smene has caused truble r upset smene's plans.
    Dead n: This means exactly right, perfect, r shws that smene agrees with what yu've said.
    Slang can be difficult t learn but it's really impressive when yu get it right! Slang als helps yu sund friendly, s it's great fr making friends. If yu can use sme f these English expressins in a cnversatin, peple will be amazed!
