Yet, I was determined to go ahead.I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was“not athletic”.The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s, I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills! The night before my marathon,I dreamed that I couldn't even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted! At mile 3, I passed a sign:“GO FOR IT, RUNNERS!”By mile 17, I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.By mile 21, I was starving! As I approached mile 23, I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签)1 can now call myself a marathon winner.24. A month before the marathon, the author ________.A. was well trained              B. felt scaredC. made up his mind to run        D. lost hope25. Why did the author mention the P.E. class in his 7th year?A. To acknowledge the support of his teacher. B. To amuse the readers with a funny story. C.To show he was not talented in sports.     D. To share a precious memory.26. How was the author's first marathon?A. He made it.                     B. He quit halfway.C. He got the first prize.             D. He walked to the end.27. What does the story mainly tell us?A. A man owes his success to his family support.B. A winner is one with a great effort of will. C. Failure is the mother of success. D. One is never too old to learn.CFew people can refuse a delicious ice cream, especially on a hot day. The only thing that stops the fun is that the treat is hard to enjoy slowly, ending up with a sticky, melted mess. Now, researchers from Colombia’s Pontifical Bolivarian University may have found an unlikely thing to help solve this age-old problem---a kind of fibre from banana plant waste.Bananas as you probably know, grow in groups on a tree-like plant. Each group is connected to a central rachis(叶轴), which is thrown once the fruit has been gathered. The team, which was led by Dr. Robin Zuluaga Gallego, began by abstracting/drawing out cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) from the powdered rachis. The tasteless fiber, thousands of times smaller than the width of a human hair, was then added to 100 grams of ice cream mix. With the right amount of CNFs mixed in the dessert lasted longer in its frozen state than the traditional ice cream, extending the amount of time that the treat can be enjoyed. What was even more exciting was that the fibre increased the stickiness of the low-fat ice cream to levels higher than the full-fat one. Since this is what determines the frozen treat’s creaminess and taste, CNFs could help create the healthier ice cream without influencing the taste of it.The researchers, who presented their findings at the American Chemical Society(ACS) meeting in New Orleans in March, 2018, next plan to study how different types of fat, such as coconut oil, influence the behaviour of CNFs in other frozen treats. The Colombian researchers are not the only ones working on creating a slower-melting ice cream. In 2015, scientists at the University of Dundee in Scotland found that a natural protein called BsIA was very effective in keeping the treat frozen for longer periods of time. With both teams fighting to be the first to get to the market, the future of everyone’s favorite dessert certainly looks bright.28. What prevents people enjoying an ice cream slowly?A. A kind of fibre from bananas.      B. The fat in the ice cream. C. The ice cream’s stickiness.         D. The ice cream’s quick melting 29. Why were CNFs added to ice cream mix?A. To improve its taste.         B. To increase its stickiness C.To reduce its fat content.         D. To make it melt more slowly. 30. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?A.The ice cream.    B.The fiber.     C.The fat.     D. The stickiness.31.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?  A. BsIA is popular in the market.      B. CNFs are more useful and expensive than BsIA.C. Slowly enjoying an ice cream will soon become a reality. D. Ice creams with CNFs have been on sale at the market.DGoffin’s cockatoos, a kind of small parrot native to Australasia, have been shown to have similar shape-recognition abilities to a human two-year-old. Though not known to use tools in the wild, the birds have proved skilful at tool use while kept in the cage. In a recent experiment, cockatoos were presented with a box with a nut inside it. The clear front of the box had a “keyhole” in a geometric shape, and the birds were given five differently shaped “keys”to choose from. Inserting the correct“key” would let out the nut.In humans, babies can put a round shape in a round hole from around one year of age, but it will be another year before they are able to do the same with less symmetrical (对称的) shapes. This ability to recognize that a shape will need to be turned in a specific direction before it will fit is called an “allocentric frame of reference”. In the experiment, Goffin’s cockatoos were able to select the right tool for the job, in most cases, by visual recognition alone. Where trial-and-error was used, the cockatoos did better than monkeys in similar tests. This indicates that Goffin’s cockatoos do indeed possess an allocentric frame of reference when moving objects in spacesimilar to two-year-old babies. The next step, according to the researchers, is to try and work out whether the cockatoos rely entirely on visual clues(线索), or also use a sense of touch in making their shape selections. How did the cockatoos get the nut from the box in the experiment? A. By following instructions.                B. By using a tool.C. By turning the box around.               D. By removing the lid.33.Which task can human one-year-olds most likely complete according to the text? A. Using a key to unlock a door.             B. Telling parrots from other birds.C. Putting a ball into a round hole.          D. Grouping toys of different shapes. 34. What does the follow-up test aim to find out about the cockatoos? A. How far they are able to see.              B. How they track moving objects.C. Whether they are smarter than monkeys.   D. Whether they use a sense of touch in the test.35. Which can be a suitable title for the text? Mountain hiking is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and get in shape, but the activity docs require some preparations. At an early age, she was crazy about singing. Whenever she had a chance, she would sing to her heart’s content. Her sweet and charming voice tended to get people around attracted to her songs.Living in a small city, I took several odd jobs, determined to do everything in my power to support her. Soon after Jane attended school, her music teacher Mary noticed her talent by chance and volunteered to give her some guidance on how to sing. Jane practiced so hard that before long she made great progress in singing.Unfortunately, at noon one day a year later, Jane was crossing the street when a careless driver knocked her down. She was rushed to the hospital. When I hurried there, the doctor told me that my daughter would probably not stand on her own feet. I froze with shock, feeling as if I had been thrown into a dark world. Weak and dizzy, I was about to fall to the ground when someone took hold of me.It was Mary who got the news and raced here. She comforted me, saying firmly, "Grace, Jane needs you. You must stay calm and strong." I nodded. Having calmed down, I entered the ward with Mary. That night, Jane recovered her consciousness (知觉) and opened her eyes. Holding her hand, I said,"My dear, everything would be fine." Mary comforted her gently,"I know you are a strong girl, Jane. Don't worry. We'll be standing by you." I was heartbroken to see tears streaming down Jane's cheeks. After two months, we returned home from the hospital. Her teachers and friends frequently visited her. Jane eventually accepted the fact that she would have to get around in a wheelchair. Never did she refer to the subject of singing again. I knew she was a nice and understanding girl, who was afraid that talking about her original dream would upset the two of us. 注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;请按如下格式作答。 One day, however, Mary came with good news.    When the host announced it was Jane's turn, she was wheeled onto the stage.              北镇三高2023~2024学年度第一学期第二次月考高三英语答案听力部分   1-5 CABCA    6-10 CBBAB   11-15 BABCA    16-20 CCABC 阅读理解21-23 DBA     24-27 CCAB      28-31 DDAC     32-35 BCDD36-40 GFEBC   41-45 ADBDA    46-50 DBCCD    51-55 BABCC56 an      57 development   58 were established  59 on       60  nationally61 largest  62 that/which      63 falling         64 to reduce   65 and书面表达第一节Dear Jack,I am writing to deliver my heartfelt thanks to you for your timely help during my visit at the Sydney Opera House. She told Jane the school music festival was to be held the next month and that her classmates all expected her to sing on behalf of their class."Really?" Jane exclaimed with excitement but immediately with her head drooping(with复合结构)she murmured"I'm afraid I’m not competent in it." Perceiving her hesitation and lack of confidence(现在分词短语作时间状语)Mary and I said some encouraging words and persuaded her to sign up for it. In the following month, Jane engaged herself wholeheartedly in practicing singing, beautiful songs echoing in our house again. Under Mary's guidance, she made rapid progress and her confidence was also building up. Days tickingby(独立主格结构)finally the big day came when Jane would give her singing performance on the stage. When the host announced it was Jane's turn, she was wheeled onto the stage. Nervous as she was(倒装结构)she tried to collect herself and stay focused. As she began to sing, the audience got enchanted with her charming voice. Seconds after her performance, all the audience rose with thunderous applause and cheers. No sooner had Jane been wheeled off the stage than she was surrounded by her excited classmates and teachers with bunches of flowers in hands(no sooner...than...句型). She was so moved that she uttered in a trembling voice, " Without your support and encouragement, I wouldn’t have made it today(虚拟语气)." With moist eyes, she threw her arms tightly around Mary and couldn’t speak anything at that very moment. It was Jane’s persistent efforts and strong faith that paved the way for realizing her dream(强调句). 听力文本 (Text 1) M: A present? People always take flowers and it's also rather hot for chocolates. (Text 10) Welcome to our new show, Colorful Animal Kingdoma program introducing animals to the young and old. In today's show, I will talk about how to raise bearded dragons. Bearded dragons originate from the deserts of Australia, and this is one of several species that survive in that climate. Today, beardies like this one are fed here in the US. First, you need to have the right supplies: a cage or something like that, a UV bulb, branches and rocks to climb on and rest on, a food or water dish, and something to line the bottom of the cage. You can even take them outside three times a week in the direct sunlight. Then it comes to the dietary needs of a bearded dragon. They mainly eat insects, vegetables and the leaves of plants. Well, since bearded dragons traditionally live in dry regions, they obtain most of their water naturally from what they eat. You have to be sure to feed them plenty of vegetables that serve as good carriers of water.
