Gever Tulley is a computer scientist from California. In 2005, he started a summer program for children called Tinkering School. The idea was that children can learn important skills for life by building things together. Gever Tulley and his team help the children to think big and create plans for new things they want to build.
Children have made fantastic things since the school started. They have made a rope bridge, tree houses, wooden motorbikes and boats.
At Tinkering School, children get all kinds of materials like wood, metal, plastic and ropes. They get lots of real tools too, such as knives, hammers and power drills. Tinkering School has been around for many years now, but nobody has ever had a serious injury in all these years. This is because there are strict health and safety rules they must follow. The children always learn how to use the tools safely and they must wear the right clothing and protection at all times.
Gever Tulley's ideas have worked very well. A lot of children have gone to his summer school over the years. Since it started, Tinkering School has been written about a lot. Most of those articles have been very positive. They have praised the quality of the school. They have found the children are more active than at many other schools.
The students at Tinkering School seem to love their school. We spoke to 12-year-old Tina Cooper. She has been a student at the school for 2 months. “Since I started here, I've never sat in a ‘normal’ class with a teacher,” she told us. “But it's been a very exciting experience. I've worked hard at my new school for 2months now, and there hasn't been one single moment when I found it boring. Before I started here, I was bored quite often.”
34. Why did Gever Tulley start Tinkering School ?
A. To raise money for his research. B. To develop the ability of the group work.

36. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. the school B. the idea C. the rule D. the summer
37. From what Tina Cooper said, we know that________.
A. the teachers are always staying with her B. she studies hard and feels proud of herself
C. she is getting more and more bored in the school D. she is happy with the experiences in her new school

Many cultures have stories of talking trees that give advice as well as warnings to people. Alexander the Great and Marco Polo were said to have visited such a tree in India. New research has found something amazing: it seems that plants can communicate.
It has been known for some time that plants use chemicals to communicate with each other. This happens when a plant gets attacked by insects. The plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. This is like a warning, or a call for help. When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own, different chemicals. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system, so that we can use it to grow more crops.
More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can't hear these sounds, but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water.
Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system the “wood wide web”, which is linked underground by fungi(菌类). It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other. However, it may lead to bad effects. Plants may use it to steal food from each other, or spread chemicals to attack other plants.
Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Who knows? Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to talk with them ourselves.
38. The writer starts the passage by_________.
A. telling stories B. giving advice C. giving examples D. listing numbers
39. New research is showing that plants can communicate with each other through________.
①chemicals ②leaves ③sound ④fungi
A.②③④ B.①②③ C.①②④ D.①③④
40. What is the writer's purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To give people hope for further studies. B. To praise scientists for their great achievements.
C. To call on people to protect the plants on Earth. D. To inspire people to communicate with plants.
41. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The secrets of how plants communicate. B. The study about the plant warning system.
C. The plants that give advice as well as warnings. D. The reasons why scientists do research about plants.

①If you read and listen to two articles every day, your reading and listening skills can be improved fast. Why should you do this?
②When you listen to people in your own language you do not translate. You simply understand. The same has to be in English. When you learn English, you have to learn the whole sentences in passages.
③Students, who have the habit to translate English texts, do exercises and do tests, are very good at translating, doing exercises and doing tests, but they have problems with understanding English in real life. In real life , nobody waits for your translation. If you translate, you cannot follow what you are listening to or reading because you are thinking about the language too much.

Exam stress has a great influence on most students in different ways. It is important to deal with the exam stress. Here are some tips for helping you to get through the exam season.
46._________
Even the most serious exam timetables will allow a little time for a study break. This can include20-minute breaks during your day and longer activities: going out for dinner with friends, going to the cinema, attending a concert and so on. Spending a little time away from the books will make you refreshed and relaxed.
47._________
You can go out for a walk or a run or head to the gym or swimming pool. Besides keeping-you-healthy,exercise can cheer you up and help to make you more productive while revising.
48._________
As the old saying goes, “Comparison is the thief of joy.” It is often helpful to discuss topics with fellow students and to revise together, try not to compare with others. You're doing just fine, and hearing other people talk about what they've learned may stress you out and make you feel like you aren't progressing as well as them.
49._________
If the stress is such that you can't stand it and is influencing your day-to-day life, try to speak to someone about it. Your school will be able to offer more advice on how to manage it. If that seems like too big a step, open up to a family member or a friend about the pressure you feel. You'll be amazed to know that you aren't alone in feeling this way.
A. Speak to Someone B. Exercise and Go Outdoors
C. Don't(Always) Listen to Others D. Always Get Ready Before Having Exams
