    At the very beginning,Perce Blackborow bought a newspaper and was excited when reading the advertisement about the expedition. 

    Then he applied to join the expedition.However,he was turned down by Shackleton because he was too young and not qualified. 

    Later he secretly went aboard the Endurance,but he was discovered after three days. 

    Finally he was assigned to be a steward and serve meal for the crew. 

    Dairy 2:Answer the following questions

    1.After the ship got crushed and sank,what did the crew members have to do?

    2.Why did Shackleton throw away all his gold?

    3.Why did he allow Hussey to keep his banjo?

    Suggested answers:

    1.The crew had to abandon it,collect essential supplies and camp on the ice.

    2.First,now that he didnt allow other sailors to keep their personal belongings,as the leader of the expedition,he must set an example for them.Second,when their survival was uncertain,gold was just a burden.

    Dairy 3:Act out a drama according to the diary

    My name is Perce Blackborow and I have been dreaming of 1.________      expedition to Antarctica with Sir Ernest Shackleton.One day,I read the advertisement about the Antarctic expedition in the newspaper,but when 2.
