Why Is It Called the Silk Rad?
China is the “hmetwn f silk”, and silk was the mst representative f the gds exprted by China n the Silk Rad. At the end f the 19th century, German gegrapher and traveler Ferdinand vn Richthfen called the Silk Rad rutes die Seidenstrasse (‘the Silk Rad’) r Seidenstrassen (‘silk rads’) in his bk ‘China’. The term was quickly accepted by academics and the public, and “Silk Rad” was frmally accepted as a prper nun.
Why Was the Silk Rad Imprtant?
The Silk Rad prmted trade and cmmerce and cultural exchanges between Eurpean, African, and Asian cuntries. It generated the first upsurge f exchanges between China and the West. The Silk Rad is called the great "Cultural Bridge" between Asia and Eurpe. With this bridge, the Fur Great Inventins f ancient China (paper making, printing, gunpwder and cmpass) were intrduced t the West. This greatly sped up the develpment f the entire wrld.
