1. On Monday, Ms. Liu asked us to make crossword puzzles based on facts about our heroes.

星期一，刘老师让我们以我们所喜欢的英雄的资料为根据做纵横字谜。

①     based on意为“以……为根据”，常用于“base A on B”结构，如：

You should _____ your opinion _____  facts. 你应该以事实为根据。

②     be based on意为“以……为根据”，常用于“A be based on B”结构，

This story____ _____ ____  real life. 这个故事是根据现实生活而写的。

2. But whom should my puzzle be about? 但是我的字谜应该关于谁呢？

whom是who的宾格形式，是疑问代词，在句中常作动词或介词的宾语，也可引导特殊疑问句。

【注】把介词提前做介词宾语必须用whom :

1.I’m looking for Li Ming now . (提问) →  For_______ are you looking ?

3. It would be somebody who I like very much. 那可能是我非常喜欢的一个人。

who 引导定语从句，修饰 somebody。如果先行词是 anyone, anybody, everyone, everybody, someone,somebody，关系代词应该用who或whom ，不用that或which 。例如：

Is there anyone here__________  will go with you? 这里有人跟你一起去吗？

4. I’m sending you the puzzle so you can try to guess who it is. 我现在把这个字谜发给你，这样你就可以猜猜字谜是关于谁的。

句中who it is是宾语从句， 作动词guess的宾语。

注意，宾语从句要用陈述语序。例如：

(1)I want to know when_________________________ . 我想知道他什么时候会来。

(2) He didn’t tell us who_____________________ . 他并没有告诉我们他要和谁一起去。

三、知识点拨：

1.(be)based on意为“以……为基础;基于”。

The movie is based on a real-life incident.

这部电影以现实生活中的一件事为基础。

2.whom 是who 的宾格形式,作动词或介词的宾语。

在口语或非正式用法中,whom往往可以被who代替。

Who did you give the book to?

你把那本书给谁了?

To whom did you give the book?

你把那本书给谁了?

3.It would be somebody who I like very much.

本句包含 who引导的定语从句,修饰somebody。

先行词为anyone,anybody,everyone,everybody,someone,somebody,关系词应该用who/whom,不用that/which。

4.the same as意为“和……一样”。

John thinks the same as I do—it?s just too expensive.

约翰的想法和我一样——那太贵了。
