Lesson 18: We All Look Different!

通过本课节的教学，学生达成以下目标：

教学过程

Step 1  Review

Show the class some pictures and get them to make up a dialogue about seeing a doctor.

Example:

A: What’s the matter?/What’s wrong?

B: I feel sick…

A: Let me see…You may… Take this medicine. Stay home and have a good rest.

B: OK. Thank you.

Step 2  Presentation 

1. Teach the new words glass, cute, blond, different and the sentence What does he/she look like? by using the pictures and the discussion.

     beautiful

   good-looking

      cool

      cute/kjuːt/

adj.逗人喜爱的；漂亮的

T: They all look different. /ˈdɪfrənt/ adj. 不同的

2. Get the class to remember the new words and sentence.

Step 3  Practice

Practice the conversation using the pictures in Step 2.

T: What does he/she look like?

Ss: He/She is/looks…

   He/She has…hair. He/She wears glasses.

Step 4  Reading

1. Get the class to read the sentences in Part 1 following the recorder together.

2. Get the class to read the sentences individually.

3. Check them.

Step 5  Presentation

1. Show the class pictures and teach the new words twelve, thirteen, funny, almost by asking and answering between the teacher and the class.

T: Who’s she/he?

Ss:…

T: How old is she/he? Guess!

Ss:…

T: What does she/he look like?

Ss:…

2. Get the class to remember the new words.

Step 6  Listening and filling

T: What do Jenny, Danny and Li Ming look like? Let’s listen to the recording.

Play the recording for the class to listen and fill in the blanks. (Let’s Do It! No. 1) Give them some time to read the answer sheet first.

1. Jenny is __________ years old. She is __________.

2. Danny is __________ years old. He looks __________.

3. Li Ming is from China. He wears __________.

Play the recording again for them to check their answers.

Step 7  Reading and filling

Get the class to read the passage by themselves, and fill in the blanks.

        Danny: Canada; three black; big and tall

        Li Ming: 12; short black

Step 8  Reading and retelling

Get the class to read the passage in Part 2 following the recording first, then read individually and retell it according to the form.

Step 9  Looking and describing

Show the pictures of people to the class, and get them to describe the people.

Including: Hair:

Clothes:

General Descriptions: beautiful, pretty, cool, cute, funny, good-looking

Ask individual students to describe a person each.

Step 10  Matching

Get the class to match the people with the descriptions. (Let’s Do It! No. 2)

Step 11  Filling and explanation

1. Get the class to fill in the blanks with “have” or “has”. (Let’s Do It! No. 3)

2. Read the sentences and get the class to tell the meaning of“have/has”.

  Then sum up the usage of have/has.

Step 12  Description and drawing

1. Get the class to work in pairs. Student A describes someone and Student B draws a picture according to the description. Take turns describing and drawing. Do the descriptions match the drawings? (Let’s Do It! No. 4)

  Example:

He has short brown hair. He has green eyes. He wears a hat. He is tall. He looks funny.

2. Check them.

Choose the drawing which matches the descriptions best. Stick it on the wall of the classroom.

Step 13  Summary

Sum up the important language points with the class.

—Sb. am/is/are/look/looks + 形容词.

Sb. have/has + 名词.

Sb. wear(s) + 名词.

1. What does he/she look like? 他/她长什么样？

  What do/does sb. look like? 某人长什么样？

  常用来询问某人的长相。常用答语为：

  Sb. be +形容词. (概述某人总体长相)

  Sb. have/has+形容词+名词.（具体描述某部位的特征）

  —What does your father look like? 你父亲长什么样？

  —He is tall and strong. 他长得又高又壮。

  —What does your friend Lily look like? 你的朋友莉莉长什么样？

  — She has two big blue eyes. 她有两个大大的蓝眼睛。

辨析：look like与be like

  两者都表示“像”，但具体用法有区别。

The hat looks like a cat. 那顶帽子看上去像一只猫。

—What’s your teacher like? 你的老师是个怎样的人？

—He is tall and funny. 他个子高，且幽默。

2. He has three black hairs. 他长着三根黑发。

  hair

  ①〔可数名词〕头发。指一根一根的头发，复数形式为 hairs。

  My granny has some grey hairs. 我奶奶有一些白发。

  ②〔不可数名词〕头发。指头发这一整体，作主语时谓语动词用单数形式。

  Your hair is blond. 你的头发是金黄色的。

3. I am almost twelve years old. 我将近12岁了。

  almost adv. 几乎；差不多

  它可与no, nobody, nothing等否定词连用，但不能与not连用。

  almost一般用于实义动词之前，连系动词be、助动词或情态动词之后。

  Hearing the story, I almost laugh.

  听了那个故事，我几乎要笑了。

  You are almost an hour late. 你迟到快一小时了。

4. I wear glasses. 我戴着眼镜。

  glass      

  ①〔名词〕眼镜。其复数形式为 glasses。a pair of glasses一副眼镜

  The glasses are nice. I want to buy one pair of them.

  这眼镜不错。我想买一副。

  ②〔不可数名词〕玻璃。a piece of glass 一块玻璃

  Be careful with the broken glass. 当心碎玻璃。

  ③〔可数名词〕玻璃杯。a glass of…一玻璃杯……

  May I have a glass of milk? 我可以喝杯牛奶吗？

2. Write a passage to introduce a friend or a family member.
