八、阅读单选
Do you know you have more than 600 muscles (肌肉) in your body? These muscles have different jobs. Keeping your muscles healthy will help you be able to walk, run, jump and do all the things you love to do.
What kind of muscles do you have
When you think about your muscles, you probably think about the ones you can control. These are your voluntary (随意的) muscles. They are connected to your bones (骨骼) and work together with your bones to help you walk, run, pick up things or ride a bicycle. The muscles of your mouth and throat even help you talk! But there are also muscles you can’t control. They are your involuntary (不随意的) muscles, such as your heart muscle and smooth muscles.
Why are healthy muscles important
Healthy muscles let you move freely and keep your body strong. They also help to keep your joints (关节) in good shape. If the muscles around your knee, for example, get weak, you will more probably injure (伤害) that knee. Healthy muscles also help you keep your balance, so you less probably fall.
How do you keep your muscles healthy
·Get at least 60 minutes of physical exercise every day. There are lots of activities you can do for your muscles. Walking, jumping, dancing and swimming are all good ways.
·Eat healthily. It will help manage your weight and provide different kinds of nutrients (营养素) for your muscles and health. For example, if you don’t get enough iron, you may feel weak and tired, because your muscles don’t get enough oxygen (氧气).
·Prevent injuries. There are many ways to help prevent muscle injuries. For example, doing warm-up exercises before exercising may make the muscles warmer. Don’t try to “play through the pain.” If something starts to hurt, STOP exercising or playing. When you lift something heavy, keep your back straight and bend (弯曲) your knees to lift it. This will protect the muscles in your back. Remember to drink lots of water while exercising, especially in warm weather. If your body’s water level gets too low, you could get dizzy (晕眩的) or even pass out.
56.Which of the following muscles are involuntary muscles?

A.in a health magazine B.on a music website C.in a travel newspaper D.in a geography book
One day, while I was waiting for my father, I saw a little boy, around two years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance (距离). The boy had a big smile on his face. The boy would fall on the grass, get up, without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could, again, still with a smile on his face, as if nothing had happened. Most adults, when they fall down, make a big deal out of it and don’t even make a second attempt (尝试). They will be so embarrassed (尴尬) that they will not try again if someone sees them fall. Or, because they fall, they will find a good excuse for themselves that they are not fit for it. They will end up being too afraid to attempt again for fear of failure (失败).
However, as to kids, when they fall down, they don’t consider their falling down as a failure, instead, they look on it as a learning experience. They try again and again until they succeed. The answer must be that they have not connected (联系) “falling down” with the word “failure”. What’s more, they probably think to themselves that it is quite okay to fall down and that it is not wrong to do so. In other words, they allow themselves to make mistakes, so they remain energetic.

Some beggars (乞丐) have been found to accept donations (捐赠) by mobile phone recently in eastern China. Pictures of a beggar with a printout of a QR code (二维码) round his neck in Jinan, Shandong province, have appeared on social media. The man is among several beggars accepting cash-free payments in the city. He is said to have a mental illness and was given the QR code by his family.
In China’s increasingly cashless society, the code allows passers-by to donate by scanning (扫描) the code with their phone. Beijing News said: “A beggar armed with a smart phone and skillfully operating his or her account is probably not a person that is really in need. Technology is supposed to make life and work easier, but should never become a means for those who want to be successful without making any contribution to the world.” It called on people to refuse to help these professional (专业的) beggars and said that the police should prevent them from disturbing others.
As many as 60 percent of China’s 700 million internet users make payments by their phone, using Wechat, which is owned by Tencent, or its rival Alipay, owned by Alibaba. Wechat users need only to have a mobile phone number to register and accept payments, which can be linked to a bank account (账户) or used to spend directly from the phone.
Some social media users praised the beggar.“Even beggars are keeping up with the times. There is no excuse for common people like us,” one wrote on Weibo. Others were less kind, “I wouldn’t give a penny to him,” one wrote. “He’s able to work and walk, not to mention using a smart phone.”
71.The first paragraph in the passage is used to ________.
A.tell readers the living conditions of beggars B.ask readers about the meaning of a QR code

Cooking should be considered as art just like any other activity which requires skills and knowledge. It is often said that students are supposed to learn scientific facts as well as how to prepare meals. The following will explain why cooking should be taught in schools.
Cooking is an important skill in life.
Schools are supposed to teach knowledge to the students so that they can lead successful independent lives when they are out of school. Also, they can step into the world knowing how to make a living.
Cooking helps discover future career.
When schools offer cooking lessons, students will show an interest in it and might take cooking as a career. This will give them the chance to perfect their basic skills and be creative in the kitchen.
Cooking avoids wasting money.
One of the main reasons why cooking should be taught in schools is that the students always use a lot of money to buy ready-made food, while in the real sense they could prepare a nice meal with less cost by buying the required ingredients.
Cooking betters math learning.
Schools do not just teach how to prepare delicious meals. Students are also taught to follow the instructions in a standard when mixing ingredients. If it is “add 1/4 spoon of salt”, students should only add that amount. So there is no more or less.

Dear Peter,
I’m glad to know that you are interested in traditional Chinese culture. As you know, Chinese idiom plays an important role in our culture. Now I would like to introduce to you an idiom: Plugging Ears While Stealing a Bell. This idiom means that it is impossible to let others know when you have done something bad. Don’t deceive yourself or others when you do anything.
The idea behind this idiom is that a man covers his ears and steals a bell, thinking he can’t hear, and neither can anyone else. In a word, Chinese idioms are very important because they embody the wisdom of life of the Chinese nation. And we can learn a lot from it.
Yours,
Li Hua
