一、教材分析
本课是外研社版小学新标准英语一年级起点第八册,本课内容是Module8 Unit1 He lives in the east of the US.本课话题是围绕Daming和Sam 讨论 Simon在美国居住的城市位置,进而学习用英语表达方位的方法。语言知识是运用“He lives in the east/west/north south of ... . ”以及“It's in the east/west/north/south of ... .”结构来谈论某一城市所处范围内的方位,即谈论在......内的东西南北方向。
二、学情分析
经过近四年的英语学习,四年级的学生已经初步形成了一定的英语学习习惯,掌握了一定的英语学习方法与学习策略, 其认知水平较之前有所发展,他们对贴近生活实际的话题充满了好奇,同时他们也具备了完整表达句子的能力。因此他们会对于“谈论城市所处位置”这一话题很感兴趣。学生在Module6中已经初步接触了一定范围内东、西位置的表达。因此,对范围内南北位置的表达是本节课的新授内容。由于本课文本的内容是谈论美国几个城市的位置,这几个城市名称的发音对于学生而言仍有一定的难度,需要进一步练习。同时,四年级学生很乐于了解西方的地理知识及文化。这也会对本课的学习产生一定的促进作用。
三、教学目标
1.语言技能
(1)听:全体学生能听懂课文,理解课文,部分学生可以听懂与课文相关的材料。
(2)说: 全体学生能用“... is in the east/west/south/north of ... .”来描述某一城市在一定范围内的方位。
(3)读: 全体学生能读懂课文或者与课文内容相近的语言材料。
2.语言知识
(1)功能:描述某一城市在一定范围内的方位。
(2)语法:全体学生能根据地图上的位置,运用“... is in the east/west/south/north of... .”来描述某一城市在一定范围内的方位。
(3)词汇:全体学生能听懂并掌握speak, best, south, north, rest, country, capital, maybe的含义。
(4)语音:全体学生能感知学习“best, west”中“e”的读音; “north, south”中字母组合“th”的读音,“speak”中字母组合“ea”的读音。
3. 情感态度:通过对课文的学习和运用“... is in the east/west/south/north... .” 句型来描述某一城市在范围内所处的方位,让学生了解美国城市,加强学生跨文化交际意识。
4. 学习策略:通过小组合作,共同完成学习任务,在合作交流中可以互相帮助修改表达中出现的错误,遇到问题时主动向老师请教。
5. 文化意识:1.通过对课文的学习和对方位的表达,让学生在了解美国城市的过程中加强学生的跨文化交际意识。
2.通过“我是小导游”活动介绍中国城市,引导学生意识到我们的国家幅员辽阔,日渐强盛,进而培养其民族自豪感和对祖国的热爱。
四、教学重、难点
1. 重点:
(1) 理解掌握单词best, south, north, rest, country, capital, speak, maybe
(2) 运用“... is in the east/west/south/north of... .”对某一城市进行在一定范围内方位的表达。
2. 难点:
(1) 课文中提及的三个美国城市Los Angeles, New York, Washington DC.的正确发音
(2) 能够正确运用“... is in the east/west/south/north of... .”来描述城市在一定范围内的地理位置。

六、教学过程
(一)复习导入Warm-up and lead-in( 2分钟)
操作方式:1. Greet to the students .
T: Hello, children. Welcome to the English class. Are you happy today ?
Ss: Yes !
T: I'm very happy. Look, our friends Amy and Lingling, they are also very happy. They are playing clapping games. Let's watch and say with them, ok ?
Ss: Ok!
2.Lead-in.
(Learn the new words best, rest and have a rest.)
3.T: East and west, home is the best. Our home is China. China is a country.
(Learn the new word "country"--"countries".)
4 T: There are many countries in the world. I think China is the best ! Chinese people is also very clever. They invented the compass.
(Look at the compass, then say the directions west, east, north and south one by one. Then learn the new words north and south.)
【设计意图】 通过引导学生观看活动1中的小视频,为学生营造轻松的英语课堂氛围,在学习小歌谣的过程中以自然拼读法的方式由之前学习的单词west来学本课的新授单词best, rest以及have a rest. 在学习新词后,引导学生理解歌谣中提及的East and west, home is the best.这句英文谚语的含义。教师在此基础上顺势引出China is our country. 学习本课的另一个新授词汇country,以及其复数形式countries. PPT中呈现China is the best !这句话,既帮助学生巩固了best一词的含义,同时也简介的培养了学生的爱国情怀。接着再顺势引出中国人的一项伟大发明——指南针。在指南针这个情形下学习方位词north, south.
(二)任务呈现Task presentation( 1 分钟)
操作方式:T:Today let's talk about the directions of the cities. Then be a tour guide to introduce the cities of China. Let's learn M8U1 He lives in the east of the US.]
【设计意图】通过前面对方位的学习,因此本节课的学习目标是运用目标语句来描述城市的方位,同时做一名小导游来介绍我们中国的城市。通过这一有趣的活动来激发学生学习本课的学习兴趣。
(三)课文学习Text learning( 10分钟)
操作方式:1. Watch and answer.
T:In Module8 Unit 1, Daming and Simon are talking about a country. They are talking about the US. Why are they talking about this country ? I will tell you. Because Daming's cousin Simon lives in the US. Do you want to know "where does Simon live "? Let's watch and answer then tell me, ok ?
Where does Simon live ?
A. He lives in the west of the US.
B. He lives in the east of the US.
S: I choose A. He lives in the east of the US.
2. Listen and underline.
T: Children, actually, the US is a very big country. There are many cities in the US. In this lesson, we are going to talk about three cities. They are Log Angeles, New York and Washington DC.(教授Los Angeles, New York 和Washington DC. 这三个城市的发音。)Can you help me to find where Los Angeles is ? Where is New York ?
T: (1) Where is Los Angeles ?
S: Los Angeles is in the west of the US.
T: (2) Where is New York ?
S: New York is in the east of the US.
T: New York is in the east of the US. Does Simon live in New York?
S: Yes, he does.
T: Is New York the capital of the US? Do you know capital ? Beijing is our capital.

3. Ask and answer in pairs.
【设计意图】教师通过向学生介绍美国是一个非常大的国家,它有许多城市。然后过渡到学习课文中提到的三个城市Los Angeles, New York 和Washington DC. 。通过听音在文本中找到这三个城市的位置,进而在语境中学习新单词capital。在学习了capital后,教师问学生美国总统Trump住在哪个城市,在学生在学习文本的过程中了解美国文化。最后让学生间对课文中的这三个城市的位置进行互问互答,为后面的操练环节做准备。

【设计意图】通过师生齐说教师自编的动感小歌谣,进一步巩固本课所学的目标语句。在此基础上观看教师制作的美国风光微课,让学生了解到美国有很多漂亮又有名的地方,自然引出,也许有一天我们可以一起去美国看看这些美丽的地方,在这个语境中呈现maybe这个词汇。在了解美国的著名景点后,教师顺势问学生,美国人说什么语言,进一步激发学生对这个国家的了解的兴趣。
(四)训练巩固 Practice( 15分钟)
操作方式: 1. Super Brain.
T: We know the US is a very big country. Look, this is our home, China. It's also a very big country. Let's play a little game. Super Brain.
2. Ask and answer in pairs.
A: Where is ... ?
B: It's in the ... of China.
【设计意图】: 通过前面对美国城市的了解及学习,由美国过渡到中国。介绍中国的四个城市Beijing, Shanghai , Haikou, Lhasa.开展“最强大脑”游戏,给学生10秒钟时间,10秒钟后让学生重新找到城市的位置。然后用Where is... ? It's in the ... of... . 来进行同桌间的对话练习。通过游戏来增加练习活动的趣味性。同桌间合作进行中国城市地理位置的问答,培养学生对本节课目标语句的灵活运用能力。
(五)任务完成 Task completion( 10 分钟)
操作方式: 3. I'm a little guide.
T:This time, can you be a tour guide to introduce the cities in China ?
【设计意图】经过前面的训练及师生,生生间的交际操练,学生对于本课的目标句型已经有了一定的掌握,大部分学生能够完成在开课时设置的语言任务。在任务完成环节,为学生提供恰当的语言支架,实现语言的输出。在完成任务的过程中,学生可以体会到用英语帮助他人做事情的快乐,对其今后的英语学习会起到积极的影响。
(六)小结与布置作业 Summary and homework(2 分钟)
操作方式: 1. T: Our country is very big and very beautiful. At the same time, it's becoming stronger and stronger. Let's enjoy the video.
