(2022届西藏拉萨中学高三上学期第二次月考)Thailand is a country with a long and rich history. It is also one of those countries which have many traditions which modern times fortunately have not affected. Thailand is famous for its unique culture. It is well worth noting that Thai culture has been handed down from one generation to the next.
Thai Classical Dance
The inspiring culture includes local music and wonderful Thai dances. The dances of course have something to do with its deep-rooted Buddhist religion, fighting arts and beautiful clothing. Thai classical dance performances are generally performed by gracious(高雅的) Thai ladies wearing beautiful Thai local costumes. Most resort(旅游胜地) areas and many hotels frequently offer these Thai culture dance shows for foreign visitors.
Thai Greeting
The unique Thai gesture of greeting another person, the wai, is especially one of the great aspects of Thai culture. The wai is when a person joins both hands to either head or chest level while bending their head slightly towards his hands. This way of greeting is especially done when a younger person greets an older person and it indicates a sign of respect to their elders. Employees would also wai their managers even if the managers would be younger than themselves.
Bangkok
Bangkok is the culture center of Thailand and has been the Thai capital since the end of the eighteenth century. Observing Thai culture in Bangkok can be great experience as the combination of modern times and traditions have created a kind of unique atmosphere. Bangkok offers a package of Thai culture which is shown by numerous beautiful Buddhist temples and many examples of modern Thai architecture.

British children’s writer Roald Dahl ate chocolates and sweets “pretty much every mealtime”, remembers daughter Ophelia Dahl.
After dinner, whether dining alone or entertaining guests, Dahl would pass around a little red plastic box full of Mars Bars, Milky Ways, Maltesers, Kit Kats and much more.
He knew the history of all the sweets and could tell you exactly when they were invented. 1937 was a big year when Kit Kats(his favourite), Rolos, and Smarties(his dog, Chopper’s favourite) were invented. He wrote a history of chocolate, lecturing schoolchildren to commit such dates to memory, such as 1928 when “Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut Bar popped up on the scene”, saying “Don’t bother with the Kings and Queens of England. All of you should learn these dates instead. Perhaps the Headmistress will see from now on that it becomes part of the major teaching in this school.”
According to Dahl, the Golden Years of Chocolate were 1930 — 1937. In 1930, Roald Dahl was 14 years old. He was a student at Repton, a famous boys’ boarding school in England. It was a tough environment:Those in authority were more interested in controlling than educating the students.
Ironically(讽刺地), it was at this difficult period that chocolate became Dahl’s passion. Near Repton was a Cadbury chocolate factory. Every so often, Cadbury would send each schoolboy a sampler(样品) box of new chocolates to taste and grade. They were using the students — “the greatest chocolate bar experts in the world” to test out their new inventions.
This was when Dahl’s imagination took flight. He pictured factories with inventing rooms with pots of chocolate and fudge(软糖) and “all sorts of other delicious fillings bubbling away on the stoves”.
“It was lovely dreaming those dreams…When I was looking for a plot for my second book for children, I remembered those little cardboard boxes and the newly invented chocolates inside them, and I began to write a book called Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
For the record, Roald Dahl did not like chocolate cake or chocolate ice cream. He said, “I prefer my chocolate straight.”
4.What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A.To introduce the main topic — Roald Dahl.
B.To introduce Dahl’s love for chocolate.
C.To introduce main character’s daily life.
D.To introduce some important characters.
5.What can we infer from the passage about Roald Dahl?
A.He treated himself with various chocolate after dinner secretly.
B.He has a good knowledge of chocolate, especially its history.
C.He used to lecture schoolchildren of a boys’ boarding school.
D.He only wrote some books related to the history of chocolate.
6.What happened during the Golden Years of Chocolate?
A.It was a great time for children to get educated.
B.Those years stopped Dahl’s interest in chocolate.
C.Students could become chocolate experts then.
D.Roald Dahl’s passion for chocolate was lit up then.
7.What gave Roald Dahl inspiration to write Charlie and Chocolate Factory?
A.The dream about chocolates.
B.Factories with chocolate and fudge.
C.Those boxes with chocolate.
D.Chocolate cakes and ice cream.
根据第三段第一句“He knew the history of all the sweets and could tell you exactly when they were invented.”
根据文章第四段中的“According to Dahl, the Golden Years of Chocolate were 1930 — 1937.”及根据文章第五段中的“Ironically(讽刺地), it was at this difficult period that chocolate became Dahl’s passion.”
根据倒数第二段中的“When I was looking for a plot for my second book for children, I remembered those little cardboard boxes and the newly invented chocolates…”

(河北省衡水市2022届高三下学期二模考试)Some events have been added to the 2024 Olympics, with surfing, breakdancing and sport climbing among the recent additions. With them come a group of terms that are foreign to the French language. For some French-language purists, it’s too much to bear to rely on English to praise surfers on their “noseriding”—standing on the front of the board. They’ve decided they need a French solution.
The French government has created a team of language experts devoted to promoting the national language. They will meet periodically over the next couple of years to identify and define new sports terms. The French battle against the influence of other languages isn’t new. In 1994, the Toubon law was passed, forcing the use of French in all government publications, contracts and advertisements. Yet it contained several loopholes(漏洞), which allow brands and companies to extensively use English. As a result, anglicisms(从英语中借用的词) are becoming more obvious.
Julie Neveux, linguistics professor at Sorbonne University in Paris, said anglicisms are “sometimes estimated at just under 5% of the present vocabulary, but they are disturbing because they show that we follow an economic and cultural model other than our own.” They are particularly present in sports competitions and events, during which athletes from around the world are used to communicating in English. “Sport was one of the first areas to be globalized,” said sports historian Michael Attali. “This phenomenon has strengthened English as the official language.”
Despite their best efforts, no committee has successfully prevented English from infiltrating(渗透) everyday language. By the time French officials agreed on a translation and its definition, the English version has already spread throughout the nation. “Similar committees have been put in place in the past, but nothing has changed so far,” said Attali.
“There are far fewer anglicisms in French than there are French words in English,” said Neveux, adding these exchanges should not be seen as a threat. “All living languages exist by borrowing from each other. Languages only exist thanks to their impurity.”
8.What will a team of language experts do?
A.Make French much purer.
B.Bring English and French together.
C.Decide upon some new sports terms.
D.Promote the spread of French in the world.
9.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.English words.
B.French words.
C.Newly created words.
D.Anglicisms.
10.What’s the result of previous efforts to stop English from infiltrating French?
A.Successful. B.Fruitless.
C.Unmentioned. D.Unimportant.
11.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.All languages should be preserved.
B.English is more popular than French.
C.Neveux is positive about the impurity of language.
D.The exchanges between two languages can be avoided.
根据第二段中的“They will meet periodically over the next couple of years to identify and define new sports terms.”
根据第三段中的“anglicisms are ‘sometimes estimated at just under 5% of the present vocabulary, but they…’”的提示可知,此处they指的是anglicisms(从英语中借用的词)。
根据第四段第一句“Despite their best efforts, no committee has successfully prevented English from infiltrating(渗透) everyday language.”
根据最后一段中的“Languages only exist thanks to their impurity.”
College is the time when you’re expected to focus on your path in life. But it’s also the time you’re the least equipped to have any long-term plan. 1 .
The whole process can be divided into three stages.
The first is “gathering fuel”. This means building up your skills, learning from different experiences and developing a network of people who you trust and who trust you. And this is a stage that requires patience and a willingness to identify your own weaknesses and work on them. If you complete this stage with a growing sense of what you love to do and what you are good at, 2 .
The second stage is “burning fuel”. This is the time to improve the skills you’ve obtained through experiences, the people you’ve met along the way and the recognition of what you should do. 3 . We want to get where we’re going in a hurry, but that hardly works.
4 . Simply speaking, it’s about staying strong, while turning an eye towards what lies ahead. It’s a surprisingly long journey and most people underestimate it. You can’t expect an ideal life to happen by itself. You must recognize that no matter where you are on the path, each step is there to teach you something, feeding you that fuel.
If you’re not doing what you want, you need more fuel — so go out and get it. 5 .
A.you are winning
B.that will come true
C.The last part is “saving fuel”
D.The final part is “filling fuel”
E.Here are some tips on how to aim your sights into the future
F.It seems that most of us try to jump straight to the next stage
G.And if you’re doing what you want, keep moving and don’t settle
