On August 23, 2008, three Chinese flags were raised at the Peking University Gymnasium. People clapped and cheered for Ma Lin, Wang Hao and Wang Liqin, the Chinese athletes who had just won gold, silver and bronze medals at the Beijing Olympics for the men's singles table tennis. Just like the women's singles event the day before, China had ruled the medals podium(领奖台). But podium domination(主导) soon became a thing of the past. The International Olympic Committee(IOC)in 2010 limited each team to two athletes per singles event for the upcoming London Olympics, down from the previous three, after changing qualification rules to involve more countries and widen support for the sports
"To be honest, the standards of the National Games(全国运动会)are higher than those of the Olympics," said Chen Meng, the Olympic gold medallist in Tokyo for women's singles and team table tennis. Hou Zhihui, Olympic gold medallist in weightlifting, finished her National Games lift with a total weight of 214kg, one more than her world record. "It's difficult. Could only win National Games by doing better than the world record. It's harder than the Olympics. Could this be the secret of Chinese weightlifting?", Hou wrote on Weibo after the event.
The Chinese Table Tennis Association said it disagreed with the new rule but accepted it "with regret" in the best interests of the sport. That made the 2008 three Chinese flags at the Olympics a forever history.
"Each province is developing its sports programme at the same time and has produced high-quality athletes. That's why the National Games are more competitive than the Olympics," Chung, a sports professor of Hong Kong Baptist University said. The IOC wants each country to be well represented and to prevent any single one from dominating the medal podium, he said. "One of the Olympic values is participation. When you have more than 200 nations and let athletes compete purely based on their skills, then many of them won't have the chance to compete at all."
8. What's the reason for the IOC introducing the new Olympic attending rules?
A. To involve more countries to compete in the game.
B. To reduce China's opportunities to gain gold medals.
C. To cultivate more high-quality athletes around the world.
D. To make the athletes practice harder to compete for the championship.
9. What do we know from Chen Meng and Hou Zhihui's words?
A. World record is easy for them to break.
B. Many nations have no opportunities to gain medals.
C. Internal competition is greater than the world-class game.
D. They have great complaints about the new Olympics rules.
9. Why is winning National Games more difficult than winning the Olympics for Chinese athletes?
A. China has a large population of athletes.
B. Athletes from other countries are less skillful than China's.
C. Athletes around the country are trained in well-developed programs.
D. The National Games have more strict rules than Olympics Games do.
11. What's the best title for the news?
A. The podium domination by China. B. Unfair Olympics new rules for China.
C. Every nation can get equal chances to compete. D. Three Chinese national flags -a forever history.
D

第三部分写作(共一节, 满分30分)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文应为100左右。
David is a 22-year-old man. Not having received a college education, he found it difficult to find a job. He worked at a small company and wasn't paid well. He thought life was unfair and often complained.
One day, his boss asked him to go to his office. To his sadness, he was told he didn't need to come to work again.
That day, David didn't go straight back to the small apartment he shared with another man. He wanted to find a quiet place and sit there quietly for some time. Having lost his job, he had no idea what to do.
He walked and walked. Finally he stopped in front of a beautiful house. The house had a very big garden behind it. He saw an old man sitting in the garden.
The old man must be a millionaire(百万富翁)", thought David. "How I wish I were him! If I were him, I wouldn't have to work and I'd have a large amount of money. I would be the happiest man in the whole world."
Thinking how poor he was, David was even sadder. He hurriedly walked forward and found a place and sat there quietly.
Finally, he became hungry and decided to go back home. On his way back home, he passed the old man's house again. This time the man was sitting in his front yard. When David passed by him, he noticed that the old man was looking at him. The old man looked as if he admired him very much. David was confused. Why would such a rich man admire him? He was so poor while he was so rich.
Finally, David decided to have a talk with the old man. So he stopped and walked to the old man.
“Hello," he said.
“Hello," said the old man.
Then they started talking. David told the old man he really admired him.
"You have such a beautiful house. You're so rich! How I wish I were you!" said David.
Hearing that, the old man smiled and said, "And I admire you, too! I wish I were you! If I were you, I'd still enjoy my youth. Now I'm so old. Wealth doesn't mean much to me!"
