If you’re looking to buy a gift for your children, why not keep up with the trend and get the best hoverboard?
What is a Hoverboard?
A hoverboard is a two-wheeled personal transportation device. It’s electrical, portable and became highly popular in 2015. Typically, this self-balancing device operates like a powered skateboard.
How Does a Hoverboard Work?
The device may have many designs, but the mechanism itself isn’t complicated. Basically, a standard hoverboard contains:
•Battery: stores the electrical power. Almost all hoverboards use a high-watt lithium-ion battery.
•Gyroscope (one for each wheel): allows riders to tilt (倾斜) the hoverboard while maintaining balance and adjusting their direction.
•Motor (one in each wheel): provides the power to the wheels to keep the rider balanced and upright.
•Logic board: functions as the hoverboard brain. It processes data—your speed, tilt, etc.—and sends information to the motors. This unit controls the power of the board so riders can adjust their speed.
All the above components work together to control the power and tilt of the hoverboards so the rider is balanced, upright and moving at a controlled speed.
Why Buy a Hoverboard?
Undoubtedly, hoverboards are cool. You’ve probably seen kids riding one around the house. They’re a phenomenon and everybody wants in. So, why deny your kids and prevent them from being part of this trend?
Where is a hoverboard legal?
Despite their wild popularity, hoverboards have yet to become “street-legal”. Currently, some places prohibit anyone under 16 from using these devices, and hoverboards are banned in academic institutions and public places, like campus buildings, parks, shopping malls and subway stations. Some places have also put speed limits on the devices and restricted their use to bike paths. However, open areas—including your yard—are free of these restrictions.
21.The logic board of a hoverboard can ______.
A.store electricity B.power the wheels
C.send information to the riders D.receive data and give command
22.According to the passage, you can see a hoverboard ______.
A.on campus B.in parks
C.on bike paths D.in shopping malls
23.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To evaluate a gift’s quality.
B.To suggest a gift option.
C.To compare new hoverboard models.
D.To explain functions of the latest hoverboards.

“Today, at 28, the young German Violinist Anner Sophie Mutter is at the top. She gives radiance (光辉) to the music,” wrote Geoffrey Norris in The Daily Telegraph, London. Mutter was also one of the world’s youngest professors.
Born in Rhweinfelden on June 29, 1963, Anner Sophie grew up in Wehr, a small town just five kilometers from the Swiss border. Her father, Karl Wilhelm Mutter, and her mother, Gerlinde, considered music lessons part of a good education. Thus, their first son, Andreas, began practicing the violin at eight, and his younger brother, Christoph, had piano lessons. It came as no surprise when Anner Sophie said she wanted a violin for her fifth birthday.
Her parents thought she was too young for the violin, and persuaded her to start on the piano. But Anner Sophie has always had a mind of her own. “I longed to play the violin,” she said. “It seemed to me a much more interesting instrument.” After six months, her parents gave in.
The famous violin teacher Ema Honigberger, who lived nearby, became Anner Sophie’s tutor After only nine months of lessons, she entered the six-year-old in a nationwide competition for young musicians. With Christoph accompanying her on the piano, Anner-Sophie won first prize.
In 1974, Ema Honigberger died. Anner Sophie’s new teacher was Aida Stucki. She taught Anner Sophe to develop her own ideas on how a piece should be played, not just to imitate (模仿) others. This is one of the violinist’s strongest, most distinctive (与众不同的) characteristics today.
Though the Mutters were short of money at times, they limited their daughter’s performances to one or two a year. “We are glad we went the family road,” said her father. “No outsider (外人) can ever have an effect on our daughter’s career or push her into playing more concerts than she wants to.” Later she was allowed to give six to eight concerts a year and make some recordings. Only when she turned 18 did she begin her professional career.
24.Anner Sophie’s career dates back to______.
A.the late 1960s B.her family education
C.the late 1970s D.her fifth birthday
25.Anner Sophie’s concerts are_________.
A.limited to one or two a year B.accompanied at the piano by Christoph
C.highly praised throughout the world D.appreciated by professors in London
26.Which sentence shows Anner Sophie’s strong point as a violinist?
A.She wanted a violin for her fifth birthday.
B.She has always had a mind of her own.
C.She had two famous violin teachers.
D.Violin seemed to her a much more interesting instrument.
27.The virtue (美德) the Mutters have is that they believe_______.
A.children should learn music
B.money is not everything
C.Anner Sophie was too young to give concerts
D.parents have a great effect upon their children

Two years ago, Dimas Aliprandi and Elton Plaster didn’t know of each others existence. Then they learned they had been switched at birth by mistake more than 20 years ago. The discovery didn’t bring bitterness. Rather, it led to the creation of a bigger family.
The chain of events started with Dimas, who was always wondering why he did not look like the four sisters he grew up with. He was 14 when his doubts grew after watching a TV news report on babies getting switched at birth because of mistakes at hospitals- He wanted to do a DNA test, but it was too expensive for the family.
A decade later, Dimas did it on his own. The DNA test showed that he was not the birth son of the man and woman who had raised him. The news was a shock for his parents. They at first refused to believe the results, but eventually decided to help him look for his biological parents.
The search began at the Madre Regina Protmann Hospital where records were checked. The hospital searched its records and found Elton Plaster was born there on the same day.
The records led Dimas to the 35-acre farm where Piaster lived, with his parents, Nilza and Adelson, in the town of Santa Maria de Jetiba, about 30 miles from the Aliprandi home in Joao Neiva. After tests, the Plasters discovered that Elton was the biological son of the man and woman that Dimas had been calling Mom and Dad for 24 years. Meanwhile, the couple Elton, had always regarded as his biological parents were Dimas’ parents.
About a year ago, Aliprandi and the parents who raised him accepted an offer from the Plasters to move to their farm, where they built a home. “This is the way it should be,” Adelson Plaster recently told Globo TV. “ We are all together and I now have two sons living and working here.

D.They helped Dimas find his birth parents.
31.Who are Elton Plaster’s biological parents?
A.The Aliprandis. B.The Plasters.

Mistakes can be learning opportunities, but the brain needs time for lessons to sink in. When facing fast decisions, even the momentary distraction of noting an error can decrease accuracy on the next choice, researchers report in the March 15 Journal of Neuroscience.
To test people’s response to making mistakes, Buzzell and colleagues at George Mason University in Fairfax, monitored 23 participants’ brain activity while they worked through a challenging task. Concentric(同心的) circles flashed briefly on a screen, and participants had to respond with one hand if the two circles were the same color and the other hand if the circles were slightly different shades.
After making a mistake, participants generally answered the next question correctly if they had a second or so to recover. But when the next challenge came very quickly after an error, as little as 0.2 seconds, accuracy dropped by about 10 percent. Electrical activity recorded from the visual cortex(大脑皮层) showed that participants paid less attention to the next experiment if they had just made a mistake than if they had responded correctly. The cognitive(认知的) demand of noting and processing the error seems to change attention that would otherwise be devoted to the task, Buzzell says.
In real life, people usually have time — even if just a few seconds — to reflect on a mistake before having to make another decision. But in some activities such as driving a car or playing a musical instrument, people must recover from errors quickly while continuing to correctly carry out the rest of the task. Those actions might push the limits of error processing.
32.According to the study by Buzzell, which of the following should be the major concern if we want to avoid making mistakes?
A.The difficulty of the tasks.
B.Time to respond to the mistakes.
C.The devotion to the tasks.
D.Reflection on the mistakes.
33.What can we know from Paragraph3?
A.Participants would pay more attention to the next task if they just made a mistake.
B.The cognitive demand of noting and processing the error can help participants focus on the next task.
C.The more time participants took to recover from the mistake, the lower accuracy they would get.
D.If participants are responding correctly, they’ll be devoted to the tasks heart and soul.
34.Which of the following person can have the most time to correct his mistake?
A.A pianist playing at the concert.
B.A taxi driver on the road.
C.A professor working on a research paper.
D.A table-tennis player playing in the match.
35.What could be the best title of the passage?
A.Mistakes Can Teach Us Lessons.
B.One Mistake Will Lead to Another.
C.Mistakes Can Be Learning Opportunities.
D.Making Mistakes Can Put Your Brain on “Pause”.

Matt is ten years old and always nervous about something. When the night sneaks up on him, he lies in bed with the blanket tightly up around his chin. The shadows on the edge of the ceiling make him slide deeper under the cover. And tonight is no exception. That’s why his mother left the light on in the hallway. To frighten away strange noises.
But that’s not all that’s wrong with Matt. He is also very unhappy. In the daytime he watches everyone pass by. He notices adults carry their briefcases on their way to work. He even worries about how hard they have to work. He sees ladies holding umbrellas in case the rain comes in the afternoon. He thinks a hurricane or a terrible rainstorm might come.
Matt always thinks the worst. He even lingers behind other children on their way to school. Some play friendly tricks on each other and tease and holler in loud voices. Not Matt. He has very few friends. In fact if he has to think very hard he can’t remember more than two. They live on the other side of Truro. So he’s pretty much alone.
That day was very special for Matt. He didn’t realize that his grandfather was watching him. He saw Matt go to school and waited for him to come out for lunch. He watched Matt eat by himself on one of the benches in the schoolyard.
It was right near one of Matt’s favorite squirrels. He watched as Matt motioned the squirrel to come across the yard to sit with him. A black blur raced toward him and then jumped up on the bench to take the peanut treat. Grandfather saw this and was glad.
Over the next few days, Grandfather was able to observe the kindness, which Matt had not only for animals but for people as well. When Sally fell off her bike and cut herself, Matt stayed with her until she was fixed up by her mother.
Most of the neighborhood children took part in a Saturday baseball game with their parents. Matt was watching a few children play ball at Victoria Park.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Matt never played because he thought he was not good enough.

Carol is a teenage girl. She thinks she’s a bit too big, but she doesn’t know how she became that way. Carol has made up her mind to follow other’s example and plan to lose weight as well. Sometimes she feels so unhappy without knowing why. At these times, she often goes out to restaurants, bars, and cafeterias for food. Although she feels very full in her stomach, she can’t stop eating because of the enjoyment she gets. She’s a little worried about her behaviour and thinks that she might have an unknown disease or an unhealthy mind. With these questions, Carol went to see a doctor. The doctor doesn’t think she has a disease, but suggests that she needs self-control. Since Carol said she enjoys eating although she feels very full, the doctor thinks her feeling of unhappiness could come from something deeper, such as problems with family members or friends. The doctor said Carol needs to find something that can bring fun to her life. Perhaps she should give up the habit of eating too much and do something else instead, such as talking to someone over the phone, playing with friends, or drinking more tea. These methods could help Carol change the habit of eating too much and become healthy again.

“No outsider (外人) can ever have an effect on our daughter’s career or push her into playing more concerts than she wants to.”( 虽然他们有时缺钱,但他们把女儿的演出限制在一年一两次。“我们很高兴我们走了家庭之路,”她的父亲说。“没有外人能影响我们女儿的事业或强迫她演奏更多的音乐会。”)由此推断出Mutters一家的优点是他们相信金钱不是万能的,故选B。

28.D细节题。题干意为“谁最先发现婴儿被掉包的?”根据第二段的讲述可知,是Dimas首先发现的,故D为正确答案。
29.D细节题。题干意为“Aliprandi一家现在住在哪里?”文章第六段提到“About a year ago,Aliprandi…to move to their farm”可知,一年前,Aliprandi一家已经受Piaster夫妇邀请搬迁至农场,并在那里安家,而根据第五段可知,Piaster一家在Santa Maria de Jetiba,故D正确。
从文章的第三段中最后一句“…but eventually decided to help him look for his biological parents.”

根据第三段“After making a mistake, participants generally answered the next question correctly if they had a second or so to recover. But when the next challenge came very quickly after an error, as little as 0.2 seconds, accuracy dropped by about 10 percent.”
根据第三段“ Electrical activity recorded from the visual cortex(大脑皮层) showed that participants paid less attention to the next experiment if they had just made a mistake than if they had responded correctly. ”可知,从大脑皮层记录下来的电活动显示,如果参与者只是犯了一个错误,那么他们对下一个实验的注意力要比他们正确回答的要少。由此可知,如果参与者反应正确,他们将全心全意地投入到任务中。故选D。
34.推理判断题。根据最后一段“But in some activities such as driving a car or playing a musical instrument, people must recover from errors quickly while continuing to correctly carry out the rest of the task.”
阅读文章,并结合第一段“Mistakes can be learning opportunities, but the brain needs time for lessons to sink in. …an error can decrease accuracy on the next choice, researchers report in the March 15 Journal of Neuroscience.”

故填was inspired。

Dear John,
Sorry about my not being able to go to the zoo with you this weekend. I have to go to the dentist, for I have a bad tooth which hurts now and then. I don’t think I can stand it any more. I know you are looking forward to our trip to the zoo very much. Let’s make it next Sunday. I think my tooth will be all right by then. I promise you will enjoy yourself there.
Sorry again and looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

Matt never played because he thought he was not good enough. He was afraid of making a mistake. He was old enough and big enough but he was too afraid to try. He thought he would never be able to hit the ball. Then he would let everyone down, and they would laugh at him. And if he hit the ball, he would be too slow to run to first base, or he might miss the ball when it was thrown to him.
Grandfather knew this and wanted to help Matt. Holding a ball, Grandfather strolled over to Matt and yelled, “Hey, Matt.” Matt jumped up with great surprise. “Grandpa!” he shouted. “I want to play baseball. Will you do me a favor to play with me?” Grandfather asked. Matt hesitated, head down. “Sorry, I can’t. I play…” “Come on, boy! Let’s have fun.” With Grandfather’s patient encouragements and constant praise, he gradually felt easy to play baseball freely. Matt was confident and he did play in the very next baseball game
