“ 17 ?!” said the king in surprise.
Sessa answered, “I want few. Since you 18 my chessboard so much, give me a grain of wheat on the first square, two grains on the second square, 19 grains for the third one, and so on. For each square double, I will be the 20 man in the world.”
The king told his treasurer(财务大臣), “If the wheat is all he 21 , give it to him!”
The first day Sessa was given a grain of wheat, which made the court(王室人员)laugh. The second day he got two. On the ninth day, he received 256 grains, enough to make a small handful. He kept his 22 —to himself. It took him 16 days to get enough wheat to fill a large 23 . But only one more day he got two bags.
The treasurer and his court stopped 24 . By the end of the month, wagons(马车)filled with grain were driving to Sessa’s house and the treasurer began to look 25 .
Then he decided to tell the king, “By the simple doubling, Sessa has already collected all our wheat! What should we do if the thing 26 ? I doubt there is enough wheat in the whole world to pay him!”

There was nothing for the king to do but call Sessa, and take back what he 28 . Sessa was happy with what he had already got—he did not ask the king for the second half of the 29 .

Do you like the amazing animals—dolphins? They sure are fun to watch jump and spin (快速旋转) out of the water, but have you ever wondered how they get the energy to do all their tricks? Do they sleep? Let’s dive into that mystery and learn all about how dolphins sleep.
Do dolphins sleep?
Yes, the surprising fact is that dolphins sleep with one eye open at all times. In order to stay close to the surface so they can breathe, dolphins must stay partly awake while they sleep. How do they do this? Simple—one half of their brain sleeps at a time! This is called unihemispheric sleep.
________________
Research have shown that only half of dolphin’s brain sleep at a time, leaving the other part aware of dangers. Besides, dolphins need to surface every so often to breathe air in and out of their blowholes (holes in the top of the heads). With one side of their brain being awake at all times, a dolphin is able to surface for air while sleeping.
Where do dolphins sleep?
Dolphins sleep in groups near the surface of the ocean so they can come up for air easily. These beautiful animals are social living things, so it’s very hard to see them alone. Not only is sleeping in a group of dolphins fun, but it also provides protection. If one dolphin spots danger when sleeping, they can wake up the rest of their family and quickly swim away or plan an attack.
How long do dolphins sleep?
A dolphin needs about 8 hours of sleep a night. However, unlike humans, each side of their brain will take turns to sleep so they can stay partly awake throughout the night. Think of it like a 50/50 split—one side of the brain needs 4 hours of sleep, and then the other side needs 4 hours. These amazing animals can stay awake for at least 15 days if they have to.
34.The writer starts to lead in the topic by ________.
A.telling stories B.giving examples

B.both of the dolphin’s brains need eight hours’ sleep a night
C.dolphins need to surface often to breathe air with mouth
D.dolphin sleep with one eye open to keep away from the danger

You may have already seen them in some restaurants around the world: robots. They are about the size of a child. They can welcome people and lead them to their tables. They can deliver food and drinks and bring dirty dishes back to the kitchen. Some have cat-like faces and even make noises when you touched their heads. But are robot waiters the future? It is a question the restaurant industry is trying to answer.
Many people think robot waiters are the answer to worker shortages. Sales of robots have been growing in recent years. There are tens of hundreds of them now moving through eating places worldwide.
In Madison Heights, Michigan, Li Zhai was having trouble finding workers for his restaurant Noodle Topia in the summer of 2021. So, he bought a robot from Pudu Robotics. The robot was so successful that he bought two more, Now, one robot leads diners to their seats white another delivers food to tables. Zhai said he now needs three people to do the same work that five or six people used to do. And they save him money. “A robot costs around $15, 000, but a person costs me $5, 000 to $6, 000 per month”, he said.
But others say robot waiters still have a long way to go before they can take the place of humans. They cannot take orders. And they cannot walk up steps to different areas of a restaurant. Restaurants are pretty chaotic(混乱的)places, so it’s very hard to use technology in a way that is really productive, said Craig Le Clair from the advising company Forrester.
Still, the use of robot waiters is growing. California-based Bear Robotics introduced its Servi robot in 2021. The company expects to have 10, 000 produced by the end of this year in 44 U. S. states and overseas. In China, Shenzen-based Pudu Robotics, which was founded in 2016, has produced more than 56, 000 robots worldwide. With the development in AI, it won’t be long before they become part of our everyday lives.
38.The writer uses the example of Li Zhai to explain __________.
A.robot waiters are more useful than workers
B.it’s expensive to buy a robot waiter
C.finding workers in Michigan is not difficult
D.robot waiters help solve worker shortage
39.What’s Paragraph 4 of the passage mainly about?
A.Why robots can’t take the place of the humans.
B.Where robots can work for humans.
C.How the robots help the restaurant keepers.
D.What the robots can do to help people.
40.What’s the writer’s attitude towards the future of robot waiters?
A.Doubtful. B.Hopeful. C.Uncertain. D.Worried.
41.Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?
A. B. C. D.
The next morning Dorothy and her friends, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow(稻草人), the Lion and Toto, left the Emerald City. Ladies and gentlemen,
Today, it’s my honor to be here to introduce Chinese national treasure—tea. Chinese tea, the most popular drink in the world, has a long history of about 5,000 years. There are so many kinds of tea, such as green tea, black tea, white tea. But in fact, it was invented by accident. Some leaves fell into the boiling water and remained there for a while. It produced a nice smell. That’s it!
As far as I know, people grow tea plants on the sides of mountains. When the leaves are ready, they are picked by hand and sent for processing. Then it is packed and sent to all over the world. It’s well-known that Chinese tea is good for our health. So let’s drink it!
That’s all, thank you!
