Mental health and substance abuse social workers

These social workers help patients who have mental illnesses or addictions. They educate the

patients on  how to deal  with their condition.  Typically, those specializing in  mental health  and

judge and provide treatment for their patients.

The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in

primary school. Small for my age, and more of a book-lover than a sports-lover, I had suffered that

special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field  Day, which focused on

individual skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory.

Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home.

He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch.

When fall came, our backyard football games began with passing practice.

Once I got to  sixth grade and went to  private school, all the students  were asked to join in

either the Red  or the White team. Throughout  the year, we fought against  each other in various

games  and exercises  for points.  I  eventually became  president  of The  Committee of  Games,

speeding up my competitive fever. However, in  girls’ sports games at my school, I was no star. I

also played on the field hockey team and  the basketball team. There were no school sports at the

weekends, as they do today,  but at home, playing tennis, skating,  skiing and biking were simply

normal things we did. During  break time, magazines were also quite popular  for us teens. These

regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the

habit  of completing  Royal  Canadian Air  Force  (RCAF)  exercises  every day,  a  practice that

continued into my marriage, when we had no spare funds to use to join a gym.

So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation (基础) developed in adulthood

into a sports and health focus, considered necessary even on vacation. I  still love reading and the

arts, too. I think, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.

Monica is a professional doctor at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Growing up in Wyoming,

she was well aware of the lack of health care resources in countrysides. Access to in-depth health

care for cancer (癌症) patients is hard to get. She’s worked throughout her life to change that.

In Wyoming, there’s a great distance to travel between where people live and where they can

find a cancer doctor. “If you  need treatments and they have to be done every  day, and if it’s 120

miles from where you live, it is very hard to receive the kind of care you need.”

And now  Monica serves  as the president  of the  Coalition (联盟)   of  Cancer Cooperative

Groups (CCCG) —  an international network of individuals  who work to improve the  quality of

life and survival of cancer patients by taking part in cancer clinical trials more.

She said, “One of the important things is that we’re trying to make sure cancer clinical trials

can reach  every single patient  who needs them  in my own  state.” The coalition  set up sites  in

northern and  southern Wyoming that are  able to  run clinical trials.  Before those trials,  patients

would usually go to Denver or Salt Lake City — a three-to-seven-hour drive.

Monica’s  efforts to  increase access  to the  health  care needs  of her  patients  also include

helping to develop  new policies that  will allow patients to  take part in  more clinical trials,  and

linking them with a regional doctor who can get them the access to the care they need.

Besides the clinical trials, Monica  said that technology’s progress like better cell phone  and

internet service in  the mountains of Wyoming,  as well as social  media, has helped local  people

stay in touch with medical professionals despite their distance. She will continue to support those

changes.

Air Tag, a small Bluetooth-and-GPS-enabled device (设备), was released (发布) by Apple in

April 2021. This small device aimed at making our lives easier was originally designed to end the

trouble  of losing  keys, wallets  or  other little  objects. However,  it  may become  the “perfect”

tracking tool if in the wrong hands. My husband was an early user of the Air Tag. He and I had an

argument. In order to win the argument, he used the little device to track me.

The Apple company brought great convenience to the users, including me. I had never given

a thought to tracking through Air Tag until it happened to me. So I started reading stories about Air

Tag. I was surprised to find that I was not alone. There were so many people tracked by it in their

daily life. Air Tag which was originally for a better life should have such a dark side in the wrong

hands.

People have found that the digital device can be wrongly used. What matters is how to avoid

its danger. Apple has released updates to the Air Tag’s functionality very quickly since they hit the

market. Meanwhile, Apple has also improved its customer service to deal with the problem. If you

find an unwanted Air Tag following you, don’t worry. Just disable it. You can follow the advice on

your Apple device  to learn more about  disabling the device.  Once you’ve completed  the above

step, the tag’s original owner can’t keep track of you any more.

Almost every  digital technology  creates security  issues. Nobody  can go  and live  without
