I was so terrified that I couldn't hold back my tears. I sobbed silently. “God bless me!” I got out between sobs. Stealing a glance at my feet, I couldn’t help screaming, “Help!” I held on to the bar as tightly as possible as if it was the last straw. “Jared, just close your eyes and have a deep breath. Imagine you are flying.” Chris’ soft voice dragged me into reality. He hugged my shoulders. I did as he told me and it worked. That was when the loudspeaker announced the Ferris wheel was normal. We finally started heading back down. Hearing the wind whistling by, I closed my eyes again, my heart pounding heavily. Maybe sensing my fear, Chris patted me on the shoulder, saying, “Don’t fear. Open your eyes and look ahead. Enjoy it!” I nodded smilingly and did it. “Wow!” I blurted out. Never had I seen a more wonderful view ! It was the first time that I had overcome my fear high in the sky. I cast a grateful eye at Chris and grinned. So did he.

M: I guess I mean the province. The wedding is in Montreal, so I’m going there first. Montreal is the capital of the province, right?

W: People often think it is because it’s the biggest city in the province, but it’s not actually the capital. Quebec City is the capital. The St. Lawrence River runs right through the middle of the city. It’s beautiful in the winter. A lot of buildings have been nicely restored. Some of them were built in the 17th and 18th centuries. You’ll love it.

W: Hello, everyone. My name is Anna and I’m the Director of Studies. Welcome to English Studies International School. All right, the first thing is what’s happening today. From 9:00 am until 10:30 am, you’ll have a written test that tests your grammar and your vocabulary. You will also do a self-assessment. You think about your listening, writing, reading and then you decide your level. You will also have an interview—a speaking assessment. These three help us decide your level. After you’ve done the tests, at about half past ten, you can have a break. After the break at about 10:45, Rebecca will be waiting for you in reception to give you your books. At 11:00, please come back here to the Learning Center, and Stewart, the Manager, will give you an introduction to the Learning Center. Then at midday, I will come back. You will meet me again and I’ll give you your timetables—your personal timetables that will tell you your class, your teacher and the classrooms. Then, this afternoon you could either listen to a lecture about London or you could do a conversation class if you know

 London already. You will start your normal classes tomorrow morning.
