    Teaching aims:

    1. Ss can know the pronunciation rule of “-er”.

    2. Ss can understand, say and read the new words of occupations: farmer, teacher, driver, singer and dancer.

    3. Ss can apply the sentence pattern to ask and answer about occupations:

    Is he/she a …?

    Yes, he/she is.

    No, he/she isn’t.

    4. Ss can understand and perform the English picture book: The Tiger and the Rooster.

     

    Important points:

    1. The pronunciation rule of “-er” in different words.

    2. The sentence pattern: Is he/she a …?

    Yes, he/she is.

    No, he/she isn’t.

     

    Difficult point:

    To enable Ss understand and perform the English picture book: A Tiger and a Rooster.

     

    Teaching aids:

    Word cards, property, PPT, the English picture book: The Tiger and the Rooster.

     

    Teaching procedures:

    Step 1 Warm-up

    1. Greetings

      T: Hello, boys and girls. I am your new teacher today. You can call me Miss Jiang.

      Ss: Hello, Miss Jiang.

    2. Lead-in:

    T: This is a picture of a family. This is father. This is mother. This is brother. This is sister.(Ss say with T.)

     

    Step 2 Presentation and drill

    1.The pronunciation of “-er”

    (1) Chant with me

    T: Boys and girls, please chant with me.

      Father. father. Is he a father?

      Yes. Yes. Yes, he is.

      Mother. Mother. Is she a mother?

      No. No. No, she isn’t.

      Sister. Sister. Is she a sister?

      Yes. Yes. Yes, she is.

    Brother. Brother. Is he a brother?

      No. No. No, he isn’t.

    (2) T shows the four words: father, mother, brother, sister.

       Ss read the words one by one.

      T: Look. What does “-er” say?

    Ss: “-er” says / ə/.

    T: You are very clever. Let’s enjoy a video about “-er”.

      T plays the video of “er”.

    (3) Match and read:

      mer, ver, cher, cer

    2. New words

    (1)T: Boys and girls. Try to read the letter groups.

      far   tea    dri    sin   dan

      T teaches Ss to read them by phonics.

    (2) T: Now, can you match the letters and read them?

      far    tea    dri     sin   dan

    mer   ver    cher    cer   ger

    When Ss read a correct word, T shows the back of the word card and Ss will see a picture of the word. T does the actions to help Ss understand the meaning.

    e.g. T: Look! We get a picture! This is a farmer.

    (2)Ask and answer

    Eg. T: Is he a farmer?

       Ss: No, he isn’t.

    (3) Practice: Ask and answer

       T: Now, let’s work in groups. Three in a group. One chooses a property, another asks, “Is he a …?” and the other answers, “Yes, he is.” or “No, he isn’t.”

     

    Step 3 Extension: The Tiger and the Rooster

    T: Boys and girls, you all did a good job today. Now let’s enjoy a story. First, let’s see. What’s the story about?

      What’s this? It’s a tiger.

      What’s this? It’s a rooster.

      It’s a story about the tiger and the rooster.

      Look! The tiger becomes a dancer. What happened?

      See? The tiger becomes a singer! Why?

      Oh. The tiger wants to eat the rooster. But what can he do?

      He dresses up as a rooster dancer and says, “I am a rooster dancer. Come and play with me! The rooster wonders, “Is he a rooster dancer? No, he isn’t! He is a tiger!”

      The tiger is sad and goes home. “What can I do?”

    Then the tiger dresses up as a rooster singer and says, “I am a rooster singer. Come and play with me! The rooster wonders, “Is he a rooster singer? No, he isn’t! He is a tiger!”

    The tiger is very sad. “What can I do? What does the rooster like? Oh, he must like flowers!”

    Then the tiger comes with a beautiful flower and waits at a corner. ”Do you like this flower?” The rooster loves the flower so much. “The flower is so beautiful. I love it!”

    So he runs to the tiger. The rooster is in danger! Will the tiger eat the rooster?

    Wait! What? The tiger runs away! Why? What happened?

    Oh! Here comes the farmer with a hammer!

    The tiger runs away quickly and the rooster gets the beautiful flower.

    Do you like this story? (Yes.)

    Let’s listen to the story. Listen carefully. (play)

    Who can perform the story for us?

    (T asks three students to come to the stage and perform the story.)

    Excellent! Wonderful! Well done!

    Step 4 Homework

      1. Find more words that end in “-er”.

      2. Retell the story to your parent.

      3. Talk about what you want to be in the future.
