Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure(探险)in South America, covering 7,800 miles. He was even named Adventure of the Year by a famous geography magazine in 2018.
Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?”
Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples(样本)from the places far away to do research. But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach——only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought himself could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventures to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.
Recently Jerry and his adventurer friends have discovered a special plant life of Mountain Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists how plants live in extreme(极端的)conditions.
For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me, what matters is doing something helpful while climbing the mountains. There is still much more we can do.” Jerry said to a newspaper.

I attended a Catholic (天主教的) grammar school for nine years. Later I decided to go to the public high school that I now attend. Why did I choose a public high school?
The main purpose of going to school is to receive a good education that will help us become successful in the future. Both private and public schools give this opportunity. But public schools and private schools each give an entirely different social experience. The social experience, in my opinion, is much more important than the academic (学业的) experience, especially for a boy like me.
In my grammar school, most of the people I met were white, Catholic, and of the same learning ability. Every day at school, students were expected to wear uniform (统一的) clothes, have uniform hairstyles and learn at the same pace. Growing up, this is what I expected all schools were like. For nine years I didn’t know that people of different religions (宗教) and learning paces existed in the real world. But the fact is that there are more types of people than Catholics and quick learners. For this reason, I decided to try something new by attending a public high school.
My freshman year of high school was an amazing eye-opener for me. I met different types of people. I have met people with long hair, short hair, black hair and purple hair. I have met people who are two years ahead of everyone else, and others who are two years behind. There are musicians, bookworms and others with interests outside the school. People can be whoever they want to be.
Meeting so many different students and teachers with so many different interests made me much more interested in meeting more people. This experience made me know how important the social part of a public high school really is. In the future, when I go to college and begin my career, I will be meeting and working with people who have different backgrounds. For this reason, I will never regret the decision I have made.
( )33. Why did the author decide to go to a public high school?
A. Because he wanted to become better at his studies.
B. Because he didn’t want to learn grammar any longer.
C. Because he wanted to gain a useful social experience.
D. Because his parents couldn’t afford to send him to the private school.
( )34. In the Catholic grammar school, the author __________.
A. often changed his hairstyle
B. had a terrible academic experience
C. often refused to wear uniform clothes
D. seldom met many different types of people
( )35. What do we learn about students in the author’s grammar school?
A. Their academic experience isn’t very different.
B. They can usually do whatever they like.
C. They know all about the real world.
D. None of them studies very hard.

阅读以下信息,根据短文填表格,每空一词。
An 11-year-old blind girl is proud of walking alone every day to and from school. Why? She has to walk past so many barriers (障碍物) in her way. The girl's home is near the school, yet her mother follows her without letting her know.
The case of the girl shows the barrier-free facilities (设施) are not enough in her city. Many other cities are short of barrier-free facilities as well. There's no well-designed path for the blind. In fact, in the early 2000s, some cities started to build barrier-free facilities for disabled people. However, almost 20 years later, only a few large cities have had facilities of high quality.
It's common that sidewalks are taken up with barriers. Few workers are sent to move them away, so it's dangerous for the blind to walk on them. Also, some other barrier-free facilities are badly destroyed(毁坏). Only a few workers are assigned (分配) to do the task of repairing the broken ones.
Some ideas can make a difference-build more barrier-free facilities and employ more of them require money. In a word, more money is needed to carry on with the work. It's our duty to make life easy for disabled people, so that they can live without barriers some day.
