What a day! I started at my new school this morning and had the best time. I made lots of new friends and really liked my teachers. I was nervous the night before, but I had no reason to be. Everyone was so friendly and polite. They made me feel at ease. It was like I'd been at the school for a hundred years!

The day started very early at 700 am. I had my breakfast downstairs with my mom. She could tell that I was very nervous. Mom kept asking me what was wrong. She told me I had nothing to worry about and that everyone was going to love me. If they didn't love me, mom said to send them her way for a good talking-to. I couldn't stop laughing.

My mom dropped me off at the school gate about five minutes before the bell. A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving (招手) at me. She ran over and told me her name was Abigail. She was very nice and we became close straight away. We spent all morning together and began to talk to another girl called Stacey. The three of us sat together in class all day and we even made our way home together! It went so quickly. Our teacher told us that tomorrow we would really start learning and developing new skills.

I cannot wait until tomorrow and feel as though I am really going to enjoy my time at my new school I only hope.

I have dreamt of taking a trip to Hawaii since I graduated, but the best thing always needs waiting. I took a trip with my friends to Haleakala National Park, which lies in Hawaii.

When we arrived at Haleakala National Park, we were advised to watch the early morning sunrise. I was lost in the sightseeing (观光) that afternoon, so I could hardly wait to see the sunrise. The next morning, we all got out of bed very early and got to the seaside at 3 o'clock. In the first half an hour, we imagined how wonderful it would be when the first light came out through the thick clouds and how soft it would be when the light touched our skin, so we waited and waited. However, another half an hour later, I gradually lost my patience since there was nothing but the chilly darkness, and I felt that I was frozen to death. But my friends were still extremely cheerful.

Nearly another one hour later, “Amazing!” Judy burst out and we all shouted to welcome the light, which was really unbelievable. Until today, I dare say that it is the most impressive sunrise in my life. However, waiting in the morning darkness is also one memory I can't forget forever.

Waiting sometimes is really a hard thing for most of us as it needs patience and strongwilled determination (决心) , but what about the result after that? It might turn out to be pleasing and unbelievable. So, it is really worth waiting for the best.

(    )29. What can we learn from the passage?

    A. About 3 o'clock.         B. About 4 o'clock.

    C. About 5 o'clock.         D. About 6 o'clock.

(    )31. What's the meaning of the underlined word in Paragraph 2?

    A. Total.    B. Cold.    C. Terrible.   D. Interesting.

(    )32. How did the author feel when waiting for the sunrise?

    A. Excited all the time.      B. Afraid all the time.

    C. Firstly excited then afraid.       D. Firstly excited then impatient.

    (D)

The earliest newspapers started in ancient Rome. They were handwritten news sheets. The first printed newspapers appeared in China during the Tang dynasty, which were printed from carved wooden blocks. Modern papers first appeared in Venice, Italy in the middle of the 14th century. The newspapers of today, with advertising and a mixture of political, economic, and social news and comments, were started in Britain in the mid-18th century.

The main function of newspapers is to report news. Many newspapers also provide special information to readers, such as weather reports and television timetables. They also provide comments on politics, economics, arts and culture. Almost all newspapers depend on advertising to make money. Nearly six out of ten adults in the United States and Canada read a newspaper every day. Seven out of ten read a paper each weekend. Readers search newspapers for detailed background information and analysis. This is what television and radio news reports seldom offer. Newspapers tell readers what happened, and they also help readers understand what caused an event and how it will affect the world around them.

The workers at large newspaper companies work under a lot of stress to bring news to readers as soon as possible. Reporters, photographers, artists, and editors collect articles in just a few hours. Page designers select articles, photos, advertisements, and eye-catching headlines to make the pages, and then rush their work to the printer. Printing workers may work overnight around printing presses to churn out more than 60,000 copies per hour.

(    )33. Modern newspapers were first made in ________.

    A. China B. Ancient Rome C. Italy D. Britain

(    )34. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?

    A. Jobs related to newspapers.

    B. Contents in each page of a newspaper.

    C. The production levels of newspaper.

    D. The fast speed of newspaper production.

(    )35. We can infer everything from the passage EXCEPT that ________.

    A. few newspapers have no advertising

    B. many adults in America read newspapers every day

    C. people can read about different issues in newspapers

    D. newspapers will become less popular as TV develops

(    )36. The phrase “churn out” in the last paragraph probably means ________.

    A. press B. produce C. publish D. sell

    四、还原句子  (本题共4小题;每小题1.5分,计6分) 更新的

    阅读下面短文,从短文后所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。(选项中有两项多余)

I'm forty now. I left school twenty-two years ago. Here's my list of five things I hope to share with you teenagers at school.

    ________

I always wanted to be the best, and one way of feeling good about myself was to see how much better I was than others. There was only one problem with this. When I saw they were better than me, I felt terrible. Now I compare me with myself. I ask myself if I do things as well as I could.

    ________

How much time do you spend worrying about the future? I used to worry a lot. Now I know most things you fear will usually never happen. They're just monsters in your own mind. Even if they happen, they will often not be as bad as you expected. In six months, you probably won't remember most of the things you worry about now.

Start the things you want to do right now.

When I was young, I often failed to start things I expected to do because I thought they'd taken too long to finish. I always wanted to write a book, for example. But when I thought it might take me more than a year, I lost my enthusiasm(热情). It seemed such a long time. Now I know a year is nothing, if I'd started that book when I was 16, I might have written 10 more by now. I'm upset with myself for not even trying.

    ________

As a young child you try many new things. If you fail, you try again and again until you learn. But at school you are usually encouraged to do things right. Then you stop trying new things in case you get them wrong. You are losing chances to challenge yourselves. I always remind myself: I had fallen off the bike many times before I learned to ride it.

    ________

I hated losing when I was younger. Of course, it's nice to win sometimes and to be the best at something. But we can't all be winners all the time. Learning to lose is one of life's most important lessons. If you try your hardest, then you should never be angry with yourself.

    A. It's not a big deal even if you lose.

    B. Don’t lose heart if you lose something.

    C. It always takes time to be a winner.

    D. You can always learn something when trying.

    E. Don't worry! It'll probably never happen.

    F. Don't compare yourself with others.

    五、综合填空 (本题共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

First, they trained the bees by rewarding (奖赏) ____45____ (they) with sugar water for choosing smaller numbers. The scientists hung up cards with different numbers of shapes.
