practices four hours a day and her fingers never tire. Music is her spiritual food. Her passion
for the piano develops a sense of wonder in life each day, making her a source of inspiration
to all.
Colette Maze was born in Paris in 1914. She started playing the piano at the age of five. As
a young student, she was taught a method by the legendary piano master Alfred Cortot, which
focuses on relaxing the arms and hands when playing. To this day, the way in which Colette

smile,”Fabrice Maze said.

As an adult, the things I learned during those college years still have an effect on my daily
life. At that time, I learned a lot from my teacher Dr. Johan Degenaar.
It was my first-year philosophy(哲学) course from Dr. Degenaar at Stellenbosch
University. Dr. Degenaar came into the lecture room on the first Friday morning of the term and
asked us to write down our own understanding of the“soul”. I was shocked. Here was the
“teacher”asking us what we thought. He was not telling us what he thought but asking us how
we saw something. The following discussion was interesting. That was my first experience of real
learning in a classroom.
Almost 50 years after that experience, I still remember what I wrote to Dr. Degenaar’s
question. Of the other teachers who“taught”me during that year, I remember they“taught”me
the history of Greek philosophy, but I remember little of that history and nearly nothing of those
teachers. And most of what I remember about Greek philosophy is what I learned in Dr.
Degenaar’s class, for my own interest.
I took further courses with Dr. Degenaar in the following years. There was little
“lecturing”at us, but far more in a process of mutual(共同的)discovery in which we learned
a lot about each other. The excitement of discovery stays with me. It took another nearly 20
years for me to get a deeper understanding of what had happened in that lecture hall:
experiential learning.
In experiential learning, the learner is encouraged to think for himself/herself, not to
repeat the thoughts of the teacher. The learning happens not because of what a“teacher”says,
but because of what the learner does. I think this is the best way to learn and you will never
forget what you learn. Everyone should try it and learn from it.
28. What did the author learn from Dr. Degenaar?
A. Greek philosophy.
C. Mutual discovery.
B. Real learning.
D. Greek history.
29. Why does the author mention the other teachers?
A. To stress Dr. Degenaar’s influence on him.
B. To praise Dr. Degenaar’s responsibility.
C. To show Dr. Degenaar’s popularity.
D. To show the author’s interest in philosophy.
高一英语试题第 6页(共12页)
30. What does experiential learning aim at?
A. Learning what a teacher says.
B. Repeating what the teacher thinks.
C. Encouraging independent thinking.
D. Focusing on the result of learning.
31. What’s the author’s purpose of writing this text?
A. To share his favorite university course.
B. To recommend an effective learning method.
C. To explain his various ways of learning.
D. To introduce his respected teachers.

Reading a pup’s body language requires experience and expert guidance. Zazie Todd, a
dog trainer and founder of the blog Companion Animal Psychology, weighs in on how to explain
Fido’s behaviour.
1. IF YOUR DOG LOOKS REGRETFUL WHEN YOU WALK IN THE DOOR AND SEE
A MESS…
They’re expecting punishment but don’t necessarily know that what they’ve done is
wrong. The research out of the University of Cambridge found no evidence that dogs can even
feel guilt, which is a secondary emotion and more complex than a primary emotion, such as
fear.
2. IF YOUR DOG LICKS THEIR MOUTH…
They’re stressed. Recently, two European studies have highlighted the meaning of this
licking. One found that it was a canine(犬类的)response to seeing an angry human face on a
computer screen; the other determined that dogs lick their mouths—and also look away—in
response to a mild threat. If you spot this sign, try reducing your dog’s stress levels. It could be
as simple as giving them more physical space.
3. IF THERE ARE FIREWORKS AND YOUR DOG IS SHAKING…
The noises are frightening. This is a common reaction, but a surprising number of people
don’t realize that shaking and trembling are signs of fear. Whereas only a quarter of owners say
their dog is afraid of loud noises, half report these behavioural signs, according to research
高一英语试题第 7页(共12页)
published in Applied Animal Behaviour Science. If you think your pup would be comforted, pet
them and remain nearby.
4. IF YOUR DOG LEANS INTO YOU DURING A PETTING SESSION…
They like it! If you’re unsure that a dog is enjoying being petted, stop, then judge their
reaction. This is called a permission test. If they choose to wander off, the session is over. Other
signs of discomfort include sniffing the floor, looking away and panting. However, if they lean
on you or paw at you to get more hugs, continue!
32. What’s the best title of this passage?
A. Read A Dog’s Language.
B. Do You Know Your Dog?
C. Listen To Your Dog.
D. What Your Dog Is Really Thinking.
33. What’s its real feeling if your dog looks regretful when it does something wrong?
A. It feels guilty.
B. It knows it will be scolded.
C. It hopes to be punished.
D. It is frightened.
34. What may it do if your dog doesn’t like your petting?
A. It may look elsewhere.
C. It may shake with anger.
B. It may paw at you.
D. Its tail may be down.
35. Which of the following will Zazie Todd agree with?
A. When dogs lick their mouths, they must feel hungry.
B. Without guidance and experience , you can know your dog well .
C. Many owners ignore their dog’s signs of fear.
D. If your dog smells the floor and leave, you should go on petting him.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

From a young age, we’re told that it is better to give than to receive. 36 But according to
studies, there’s a lot of truth behind that saying. In other words, the saying makes sense. Here
are the benefits of generosity(慷慨大方)found by studies.
高一英语试题第 8页(共12页)
Your satisfaction with life can increase. 37 And generosity appears to be a big push to
make our wish come true. 74%of high-generosity respondents(受访者)reported satisfaction
with their lives, compared to 60% of low-generosity respondents. As it turned out, high-
generosity respondents were more than twice as likely to report they were“very satisfied”with
their lives.
38 Those who are highly generous reported having more friends who would like to
communicate with them and support them. This group also had more close friends. High-
generosity respondents had an average of 3.2 close friends, while those in the low-generosity
group had an average of 2.6.
You can have a more positive attitude towards life. Your attitude towards life makes a
huge impact on how happy you are. If you believe that what you’re doing matters, you’re
probably going to enjoy your life much more. 39 That’s 21%more than those who are not so
generous.
You have better physical and mental health. Highly generous people are happier and
more positive. So their mental health is in better shape. They also have better physical health.
Those in the high-generosity group are more likely to eat a healthy diet and exercise
regularly. 40
A. Some of us may doubt it.
B. Most of us may agree with it.
C. You have more good friends.
D. All of us want to be happy in life.
E. This saying truly benefits us.
F. So highly generous people are less likely to get ill.
