It’s the harvest (收获) season in many parts of the world, but on the farm of Harper Adams University in the U.K., it is robots- not humans that are doing all the heavy lifting.
At Hands Free Hectare, an experimental farm run by a group of researchers, about 5 tons of spring barley (大麦) have been harvested from the world’s first robotically tended farm. Everything from start to finish, including seeding, fertilizing (施肥), collecting patterns and harvesting, has been done by unmanned equipment, according to the researchers. The team behind the project thinks that robotic technology could improve production in agriculture, which would be necessary if the world’s growing population is to be fed in coming years.
The researchers dealt with this problem by using agriculture machines available on the market and software that is used to guide autopilot drones(无人机). The rescarchers bought several small-size agricultural machines, including a tractor and a combine (联合收割机), a machine for harvesting crops. “The first stage was to make them radio controlled,” said Jonathan Gill, a head researcher, who led the project. “This was our first step towards the driverless goal. From that point. we moved on to preprogram all the actions that needed to be performed into the driverless system.” To monitor the field and take patterns of the plants, the researchers developed special grippers (夹持器) attached to the autopilot drones. As the drones fly above the field, the grippers can cut off some patterns and take them to the researchers.
The scientists said the robotic technology could enable future farmers to more exactly use fertilizers and farm chemicals, but also lead to improvements in soil quality. Currently, many farmers rely on very large and heavy machines. They cover large areas of ground quickly, but it comes with mistakes. In the future, farmers would make use of smaller robotic tractors and harvesters.
The Harper Adams University team plans to use the robotically harvested spring barley to make limited “hands-free” beer that will be offered to the projects supporters as a symbol of thanks.
24.What do the robotic machines do on the experimental farm?
A.Most heavy lifting among the process of farming.
B.All the farming work from seeding to harvesting.
C.Operating the large machine to harvest spring barley.
D.Cooperating with a combine to make a plan.
25.What can robotic technology do on farming according to the passage?
A.Improve the quality of spring barley
B.Make harvest done without using machines.
C.Save money for the local government each year.
D.Increase production in agriculture to feed more people.
26.What can we learn about the first stage of the research project described in the passage?
A.The agriculture machines come with some mistakes.
B.The researchers made needed machines by themselves.
C.The agriculture machines were controlled by the radio.
D.The researchers learned advanced agricultural knowledge.
27.How will the Harper Adams University team deal with the robotically harvested spring barley?
A.Making some presents with it for local scientists.
B.Baking cakes to sell on the market.
C.Advertising it as a successful symbol.
D.Making beer for the project’s supporters.
    C
It sounds like science fiction, but the world's first floating dairy farm(奶牛场 )the brainchild of Dutch company Beladon, will become a reality.
Though the project has been in the works for years, the farm only recently got the green light for construction. This summer, a 900-ton platform was pulled to its current position in Rotterdam's harbor. It will soon be a multi-level home to 40 cows.
According to Peter, owner of Beladon, animal welfare was important when they were designing the farm. The finished farm will feature a “cow garden"on the top floor, with artificial trees and bushes to offer shade. A team of robots will be hired, collecting about 800 liters of milk per day. The milk will then be processed on the floor below and sold locally. In their free time. however, cows can walk a ramp(斜坡) to reach the firm ground on the bank.Tasty waste from the city-cut grass, potato skins, etc.- will be their main food source And waste from the farm will be used as fertilizer throughout Rotterdam.
The building will attract many visitors, but the real focus is food security. Getting cows on the water is a great step towards creating healthier cities. The idea first came in 2012, while Peter was in New York. When Hurricane Sandy hit, he watched the city's transportation paralyzed (瘫痪的)as Manhattan's roads were filled with water. Trucks for food distribution couldn’t move anymore. After two days. there was no fresh food in the stores, Then Peter had a thought: To create a climate-adaptive method of producing fresh, local food, why not harvest right on the water?"You going up and down with the tide, and you don’t need the transport."
Though it's just one small farm the project can serve as a model for cities across the globe. A building on the water is transportable, so you can move it when necessary.
28.What do we know about the dairy farm?
A.It is meant to serve local citizens.
B.It is out of the question.
C.It is located in the deep sea.
D.It is owned by the government.
29.How is the life of the cows on the dairy farm?
A.They feed on the plants grown on the farm.
B.They have access to the real land.
C.They can wander in the real garden
D.Their waste can be fully used aboard.
30.What is the main purpose of Beladon in building the farm?
A.To improve the local environment. B.To add a new scenic spot.
C.To help ensure food supply. D.To reduce pressure on transport.
31.What's the author's attitude to the idea of building such farms?
    A.Indifferent. B.Worried.
    C.Doubtful. D.Supportive.
    D
Scientists in Britain have managed to teach bees to pull strings (线) to get to food and then pass on what they have learned to others in their colony (群体) — showing a high level of intelligence despite their tiny brains.
Researchers at Queen Mary University of London said the experiments, often used to test the intelligence of apes (猿) and birds, showed for the first time that some insects are up to the task, and can also pass skills on through several generations.
The findings add to the evidence suggesting the ability for “culture spread”— the ability to learn and pass on knowledge and skills — may not be exclusive to humans.
In the research, published in the journal PLOS Biology on Tuesday, the scientists were able to train 23 out of a group of 40 bees to pull strings with their legs and feet.
The strings were attached to discs — or artificial “flowers” — containing food at their center but placed under a transparent (透明的) screen. The bees, spotting the food beneath the screen, learned to pull the “flowers” out by pulling the string with their legs and feet to be able to get to it.
From another group of bees given the chance to solve the task without any training, only two of 110 were successful.
Another group of bees was then allowed to observe the trained bees pulling the strings, and 60 percent of them successfully learned the skill. Finally, trained bees were put in colonies, and the scientists found the technique spread successfully to a majority of the colony's worker bees.
Lars Chittka, a Queen Mary University professor who guided the project, said the team is interested in figuring out the brain processes behind the bees' learning and teaching skills.
32.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “exclusive” in Paragraph 3?
    A.Typical. B.Limited.
    C.Obvious D.Widespread.
33.What did the researchers find about bees?
A.Bees learn best in insects. B.Bees are as clever as birds.
C.Bees are born good learners. D.Bees can be trained to learn skills.
34.What may the research team focus on next?
A.What else bees can do. B.Where bees learn skills.
C.How bees teach others. D.How bees' brains work.
35.What may be the best title for the text?
A.Small Bees, Great Abilities B.Bees Can Learn and Teach
C.Bees Are Smarter D.Let Bees Learn
    第二节 七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
    阅读下面的短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Studies have shown that walking among trees makes us relaxed. ___36___There’s plenty of research showing the link between being in nature and being happy, but most of the research has focused on adults.
___37___ Explaining the motivation behind the study, researchers note that with environmental issues such as global warming, more studies are focusing on the relationships between humans and nature to find solutions to these problems, and the future of the planet lies in the hands of children and their actions. However, few studies focus on this aspect.
For the study, researchers worked with 296 children between the ages of 9 and 12. To measure how connected they were to nature, the kids were asked how much they enjoy activities like seeing wildflowers and wild animals, hearing sounds of nature and touching animals and plants. ___38___They also found that the more concerned children were about the environment and nature, the more likely they were to be happy.
So exposure to nature is related to active behaviors and happiness of children. What does that mean to adults? As we all know, children usually tend to follow adults’, especially their parents’ behaviors. That’s to say, when adults are outside and appreciate nature, kids learn by example. ___39___
Researchers say that children need role models who can gently guide them to nature with excitement and an attitude of a lifelong learner. ___40___ What’s more important is that they spend time together with children by exploring a fun and safe environment.
A.It’s so good going for a walk around trees.
B.Even just smelling the trees helps reduce anxiety.
C.And if parents enjoy being close to nature, so will their children.
D.Parents don’t have to be experts in environmental science or nature studies.
E.They found that the kids connected to nature were more likely to behave actively.
F.In a new study researchers wanted to see if kids get the same benefits from being outdoors.
G.Researchers will study more about the connection between children’s happiness and nature.

M: Hi, Claire. Nice to meet you here.
W: Yeah, me too. I’m buying some ingredients for the supper. Oh, what are these you’ve put in your basket? You’re always crazy about snacks, aren’t you?
M: Oh, no. It’s not what you think. These are all energy bars. I think I have too much fat, so I’ve decided to cut out my meals and eat these only.
W: What? Jeff, you need to have a balanced diet including vitamins, minerals, fiber and so on.
M: Don’t worry, Claire. The ads say the energy bar contains all the nutrients you’ve mentioned. They say it can be a perfect substitute for daily meals.
W: Oh, don’t get fooled by those ads, Jeff. It’s all business. Let me see it — sugar, fat and chemicals… How dare they claim it to be healthy?

【原文】W: Planning a schedule that includes time for studies, sports, part-time work and free time can be a challenge. Today we have Dr Tony with us to talk about how to plan a schedule. M: Well, the good way to start is to make a plan for each day of the week and then try to balance your time so you can include everything. Here are some guidelines that may help you. First, we start with the twenty-four hours we all have in every day. If we take out eight hours for our sleep time, that leaves sixteen hours to divide among the other activities. Attendance at school takes about six hours and homework about two, for a total of eight. That leaves us eight hours for sports, work and free time. Remember, those guidelines are flexible and you must adjust them to your particular needs. Weekends are different since we don’t have to attend school. Here we can usually focus on certain activities such as sports or part-time work and free time. We can see our friends and spend more time with our family. If you make a schedule and try to keep to it, you will soon develop the habit of doing each task during its planned time and will be satisfied that you can comfortably do everything you have to do. W: Planning a schedule that includes time for studies, sports, part-time work and free time can be a challenge.
