Two baby panda cubs (幼崽) born in a French zoo have finally got names! They are named Yuan Dudu and Huan Lili.
The names were chosen in an online vote. More than 122000 people chose the names for five different pairs. The names stand for friendship between France and China, as well as a wish for the cubs’ good health.
Giant pandas usually have two names, a nickname (昵称) and an official name. The nickname is for panda cubs. This way, people can see how they are different between each other. If twins are born, the older cub gets a nickname with the character “Da” and the younger gets a nickname with the character “Xiao”. They mean “older” and “younger” in Chinese. For example, the panda “Jingjing” gave birth to twins. The older one would be nicknamed “Jingda”, while the younger would be “Jingxiao”. If there is a third cub, it will be nicknamed with “San”(“three”).
Once they get their official names, nicknames are not used any longer. This is because the pandas go into a special database (数据库). Their names will carry information about the family relationships. The pandas also get a unique code (独一无二的编号) to prove their identities (身份). All of this helps with scientific research.
Online votes are not the only way to name the pandas. For example, the Chinese government will name a panda before giving it away as a gift to other countries.

“May we all be blessed with longevity. Though miles apart, we are still able to share the beauty of moon together (但愿人长久,千里共婵娟),” wrote Su Shi, a poet during the Song Dynasty, in his well-known poem to his younger brother Su Zhe.
The moon is the brightest on the 15th day of the eighth month of the lunar calendar (阴历). On this day, people celebrate the Mid-Auturnn Festival. It has been enjoyed by people all over the country.
In ancient China, that day was a harvest (收获) festival because crops (庄稼) were harvested during that period. It was a time for relaxation and celebration.
Just like Thanksgiving in Western countries, families also try to get together for the Mid—Auturnn Festival in China. Usually, no matter how far away or how busy they are, people will try to return home for the celebration.
The Mid-Auturnn has its own special food just as other traditional Chinese holidays. People eat moon cakes with fillings, such as sugar and eggs. The round shape of the cake makes it look like the full moon. The full moon and moon cakes stand for family reunion (团聚).
With the beautiful moon up in the sky, people sit together, enjoy the full moon, eat mooncakes and fruit, share the stories and express the best wishes for the family members and friends who live far.

Do you have a friend who always complains (抱怨), but never tries to deal with their problems? What suggestions can you give them?
In one town, there was a wise man who would listen to people’s problems and try to offer advice. The problem was that it seemed like people always complained about the same problems over and over again.
The wise man gave good advice to these people in order to help them solve their problems. But it seemed that they never actually took his advice. In fact, it almost seemed like the people simply enjoyed complaining and didn’t want to listen to the wise man.
He came up with an interesting solution to this problem. Every time someone came to him with their complaint, he would tell them a joke. The joke was funny the first time they heard it, as they came back over time with the same old complaints, the man would say the same old joke. It got less and less funny as time went by.
Finally, one person asked. “Wise man, why do you always tell the same joke over and over? It isn’t funny anymore.”
The wise man replied with a question of his own. “If you can’t laugh at the same joke over and over, then why do you always complain about the same things over and over again?”
There is no point in worrying or complaining about something if you can’t or won’t take action to solve it. Remember that you alone are in charge of(负责) your life. The world is what you make it.
30.When the wise man gave those people who liked complaining some advice, ________.
A.they used to take his advice B.they thought it was wrong

32.What’s the meaning of the underlined word “point” in Chinese?
    A.观点 B.意义 C.方面 D.要点
33.The author wrote the article to tell us that ________.
A.people had better take others’ advice
B.people should learn to tell funny stories
C.everyone’s life should be managed by themselves

Shirley, an elephant, has something to say. She opens her mouth and speaks. The nearby elephants understand the sound, but it’s just noise to me.
What is Shirley exactly saying? Scientists are not sure, but they are trying to find out how elephants communicate. I visited Shirley at the Elephant Sanctuary (避难所) in Hohenwald, Tennessee. The sanctuary is home of Shirley and five other elephants —Bunny, Jenny, Sissy, Tarra and Winkie. All six animals were once in zoos or circuses (马戏团). Now they walk freely in the forests.
    A noisy group
Not all the elephants at the sanctuary speak like Shirley. Tarra speaks like a sea lion when she is happy. Bunny squeaks (吱吱叫)often. I soon get used to hearing the different voices of the elephants.
    old friends
The elephants speak to one another for the same reasons people talk. Sometimes they even shout with excitement. When Shirley first came to the sanctuary, Jenny looked at her and began to shout. Shirley shouted back. At first, the animal keepers had no idea what it was about. Later, they discovered that Shirley and Jenny had stayed together for 20 years earlier in a circus. They still knew each other.
There are two kinds of elephants— Aslan elephants and African elephants. In the wild, both kinds are endangered. In 1970, almost 2 million Asian elephants lived in the wild in Southeast Asia. Now there are only 25,600 to 32,750 elephants living there. Their home is being gradually destroyed. So we must take action to protect them.
    34.Whose sound is like a sea lion’s?
    A.Shirley’s. B.Bunny’s. C.Tarra’s. D.Sissy’s.
35.Shirley first came to the sanctuary and shouted back to Jenny because ________.
    A.she was afraid of Jenny
    B.she was angry with Jenny
    C.she stayed in a circus
    D.she still knew Jenny
36.The number of Asian elephants in the wild in Southeast Asia is at most ________.
    A.20000 B.25600 C.32750 D.2,000,000
37.According to the text, we can infer (推断) that ________.
A.the scientists can speak to the elephants
B.the elephants in the sanctuary live freely
C.Shirley likes making a lot of noise

Take the Kincade Fire in northern California for example. It forced 200,000 people to leave their homes within one week. The state's largest power company cut power to about 206,000 homes in order to stop more fires from breaking out, CBS News reported.
California has seen many wildfires in recent years. Nine of the 10 biggest fires have happened since 2000, including five since 2010, according to The New York Times.

At the same time, seasonal winds blow across the state every year, causing the wildfires to spread quickly and last for weeks.
Global (全球的) warming has also made the fires worse in recent years .It has dried out the state's trees and other plant life, causing them to burn more easily.
Humans have played a role as well. Burning campfires ,garbage debris (垃圾碎片), and cigarette butts (烟头) can easily cause wildfires.
Humans have caused 90 percent of California's wildfires, according to the US National Park Service.

A few weeks ago, my school's ninth-grade class went on a trip to the Black Country in England, UK to learn about geography and history.
Many people believe the name comes from the 1840s because of the soot (煤烟) that was put out by factories at that time. There is also a 10-meter-thick coal seam (煤层) close to the surface of the ground in Black Country.
The aim of this trip was to get us prepared for a geography project about rivers. We also learned more about the history of England.
On the first day of our trip, we went to Carding Mill Valley near Birmingham and learned about the changes that can happen to a river as it flows downstream (顺流而下). Our teacher had given us a few lessons on how rivers work before the trip, so we were well-prepared for the project we had to do.
The next day, we went to the famous Black Country Museum where we learned about coal mining (煤矿开采) and the lives of the people who lived. A highlight of the day was when we visited a coal mine and watched how to make iron chain links (铁链节).
It was truly a happy trip. I enjoy this way of learning. I like how we got an opportunity to experience what we learned about in class and put it into real-life practice. It was a useful way to get us more interested in what we were learning about. It also showed us the importance of the journey when we're learning something new.
34.From the article, we know that the author is________.
    A.a teacher B.an engineer C.a student D.a scientist
35.How long do you think the trip probably lasted?
    A.One day. B.Two days. C.Three days. D.Four days.

C.show the importance of the journey D.get interested in other things
