    Module 6 Animals in danger

    Unit 1 It allows people to get closer to them.

    设计说明

    以谈论动物的方式引入新课。通过听力的演练和对话的学习,提升学生的听说和朗读能力。学习本模块的新单词、短语和句型,学习新语言点,增加学生的语言积累。进一步学习动词不定式,复习动词不定式作宾语的用法,学习动词不定式作宾语补足语等其他句子成分的用法。练习朗读中的停顿,提升学生在英语口语表达中的规范性和美感度。通过对应练习,巩固学生对单词、短语、句型和语法的掌握,提升运用能力。

    教学目标

    通过本单元的教学,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    掌握本单元新单词及短语:snakeneckthindangerin dangerat lastinterestedallowthink ofprotectwildgrowtake awayenoughpeacein peacenoticelook afterraise

    2.能力目标

    (1)能够听懂关于谈论动物的对话;以正确的语音和语调朗读对话。

    (2)习使用动词不定式作宾语补足语和其他句子成分的用法。

    3.情感目标

    通过听说训练,更多地了解动物生活环境的变化和面临的危险,增强动物保护意识。

    教学过程

    Step 1 Leading in

    T: Do you like animals?

    Ss: Yeswe do.

    T: What animals do you like? And what is your favourite animal?

    Ss:

    (Show some pictures of animals to the class)

    T: Do you know these animals? What are they like?

    Ss:

    Step 2 Presentation

    Look at the pictures and do the quiz. Use the words in the box. (Activity 1 on Page 42)

    1. Ask the students to look at the pictures.

      T: Look at the pictures of animals. What are they in Chinese?

      Ss:

      T: And in English?

      Ss:

    2. Tell them to read through the words and make sure they know all the words.

     

     

    3. Tell the students to read the quizdecide the quizdecide what the animals are and then complete the quiz.

    4. Ask them to check answers in pairs.

    5. Ask them to work in pairs. One reads the quizand the other says the animal according to the description.

      Answers:

      1 giraffe  2 lion  3 snake  4 elephant  5 bear

    Step 3 Listening

    1. Listen and write out the correct words or expressions.(Activity 2 on Page 42)

    (1) Ask the students to read the two questions and guess what the listening will be about.

    (2) Play the recording and ask the students to write down the key words and expressions or the answers.

    (3) Play the recording once more for them to check their answers.

    (4) Elicit answers from the class.

    Answers:

    1 This weeks Animal World is about snakes.

    2 Animals such as pandaslionselephants and bears are in danger.

    2. Play the recording again. Show the typescript if necessary.

    Step 4 Listening and reading

    1. Tell the students to work in groups to discuss what animals are in danger. What can we do to help them?

    2. Elicit some of their ideas around the class.

    3. Ask them to listen to the recording and check the true (√) sentences.

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    (1) Ask the students to read the sentences carefully before reading.

    (2) Play the recording. Ask the students to check the true sentences.

    (3) Check answers in groups.

    (4) Elicit answers from the class.

    3. Read the conversation and complete the table. (Activity 3 on Page 43)

    (1) Ask the students to read the conversation and mark the key information.

    (2) Ask them to discuss in groups and then complete the table.

    (3) Ask some groups to present their answers.

    Why many animals are in danger

    What we can do to help

    1. Many animals don’t have a safe place to livebecause villages and farms are growing bigger and are taking away their land and forests.

    2. Often there isn’t enough clean water.

    1. Raise some money at school.

    2. Find out what else we can do to save as many animals as possible.

    (4) Ask the students to work in pairs. Discuss and add more information to the table.

    Why many animals are in danger

    What we can do to help

    1. People kill them for food or for sport.

    2. They dont have enough food to eat.

    1. Support a charity for animals.

    2. Dont buy products made with anything from an animal in danger.

    4. Read the conversation.

      (1) Ask the students to read the conversation after the recording.

      (2) Ask them to read the conversation on their own. Help them to read.

      (3) Ask some students to read the conversation. Correct the mistakes.

      (4) Ask some students to read the conversation in different roles.

    5. Read the conversation again and find out the following phrases. Try to translate them into Chinese.

    (1) at last最后;终于

    (2) be interested to do sth.某事感兴趣

    (3) allow sb. to do sth.允许某人做某事

    (4) think of想出;想到

    (5) in danger处于危险中

    (6) take away拿走;夺去

    (7) in peace平静地;和平地

    Step 5 Practice

    Ask the students to complete the passage with the words and expression in the box. (Activity 4 on Page 43)

    1. Ask the students to read through the words and expression in the box. Make sure they know the words.

     

    2. Ask the class to read the passage and complete it with the words and expression in the box on their own.

    3. Check answers in groups.

    4. Elicit answers from the class.

    Step 6 Language points

    1. What animals are in danger? 哪些动物处于濒危状态?  

    danger不可数名词,意为“危险;危害”,in danger表示“处于危险中”;out of danger意为“脱离危险”。

    如果你是一名警察,你必须学会如何面对危险。  

    Some wild animals are in great danger. We should try to protect them.

    一些野生动作处于极度危险之中,我们应该保护它们。

    dangerous形容词,意为“危险的”。

    The lion is a dangerous animal. 狮子是一种危险的动物。

    2. But I am more interested to see the pandas in the Wolong Panda Reservebecause it allows people to get closer to them. 但我对在卧龙大熊猫自然保护区看大熊猫更感兴趣,因为它允许人们更近距离地接触它们。

    (1) interested形容词,意为“关心的;感兴趣的”。be interested to do sth.表示“感兴趣做某事”;be interested in (doing) sth.表示“对(做)某事感兴趣”。

    (2)allow动词,意为“允许;准许”,allow sb. to do sth.表示“允许某人做某事”,动词不定式(短语)作宾语补足语。

    My father doesn’t allow me to play computer games on weekdays.

    我父亲不允许我在上学日玩电脑游戏。

    They don’t allow smoking here. 他们不允许在这儿吸烟。

    3. Many wild animals don’t have a safe place to livebecause villages and farms are growing bigger and are taking away their land and forests. 许多野生动物缺乏安全的生存环境,因为村庄和农场正在不断地扩张,侵占了它们的土地和森林。

    take away意为“夺去;拿走”,是“动词+副词”型短语,名词作宾语时,放在away前后均可,人称代词作宾语时,必须放在away的前面。

    They took away all the glasses.

    他们把所有的玻璃杯都拿走了。

    You can read the magazines here. But you can’t take them away.

    你可以在这儿读这些杂志,但你不能把它们带走。

    4. Alsooften there isn’t enough clean water. 还有,经常没有足够的干净
    的水。

    enough此处作形容词,意为“足够的;充分的”,修饰名词时常位于名词之前,但time enough也常见。

    Don’t worry. We have enough food and drink.

    不用担心,我们有足够的食物和饮料。

    Step 7 Pronunciation and speaking

    1. Listen and mark when the speaker pauses. (Activity 5 on Page 43)

      (1) Let some students read the sentences.

      (2) Play the recording for the class to listen for the pronunciation and pauses.

    (3) Play the recording again and pause at the end of each sentence. Ask the students to mark where the speaker pauses.

    (4) Check answers together with the class.

    Answers:

    1 It allows people / to get closer to them.

    2 We want to / save animals in danger/ and we need your help.

    3 We can give money / to help protect the animals.

    (5) Listen to the recording again and repeat the sentences.

    2. Work in pairs. Ask and answer the questions. (Activity 6 on Page 43)

      (1) Tell the students to read the questions.

      (2) Ask them to ask and answer in pairs.

      (3) Encourage some students to show their conversations in class.

      Possible answers:

    4 We can raise money at school.

    3. Talk with your partner about what we can do to protect animals in danger. (Activity 7 on Page 43)

    (1) Ask the students to talk about what they can do to protect animals in groups and write some sentences like:

    (2) Ask some groups to share their ideas.

    (3) Ask each group to make a poster on how to protect animals in danger after class.
