    设计说明

    首先,通过展示海伦·凯勒的图片,与学生自由交谈,激发学生的学习兴趣。呈现本课生词,并让学生熟读,接下来,通过将生词运用到句子中让学生在语境中理解生词的含义,并进一步了解本课介绍的主人公海伦·凯勒。设置听课文回答问题环节,让学生简单了解课文内容。接下来,通过通读课文让学生回答有关课文内容的问题,锻炼学生提取有效信息和自行解决问题的能力。要求精读课文,并分段学习,通过回答问题、语篇填空等形式,让学生抓住主要信息。接下来,进入Let’s Do It! No. 2的练习,检查学生对几个生词的掌握情况。结合课本内容Let’s Do It! No. 3学习thatwho引导的定语从句。然后,通过想一想、说一说,处理Let’s Do It! No. 4 的内容让学生谈论其他伟人以及从伟人身上学到的优秀品质。

    过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

    掌握单词:writer, blind, deaf, illness, ability, progress, community       

    接触单词:planetary, educator, greatly

    Step 1  Free talk

     

    Show pictures of Helen Keller. Have the following conversation between teacher and students.

    T: Have you heard of Helen Keller?

    Ss: Yes.

    T: What do you know about her?

    Ss: She was a famous writer

    T: What can you learn from her?

    Ss: She worked hard and never gave up

    T: Do you know any sign language?

    Ss: Yes/No

       

    Step 2  Presentation  

    1. Teach the new words writer, blind, deaf, illness, ability, progress, community, planetary, educator, and greatly.

    2. Then get some of the students to read the words in front of the class.

    3. Use some words to show some information about Helen Keller.

    1. Helen Keller was a famous writer and educator.

    2. She had a high fever that made her blind and deaf.

    3. After she lost her ability to see and hear, she often cried.

    4. With her teacher’s help, she made a lot of progress.

    5. She did her best to help others in the community.

    6. Although she was dead, she will be greatly missed.

    4. Let them work in groups and find out the meaning of the sentences.

    Step 3  Listening and answering

    1. Get the class to read the following question.

    What’s the relationship between Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan?

    2. Then play the recording for the class to listen.

    3. Ask them to answer the question and check their answers in pairs.

    Answer: Student and teacher.

    Step 4  Reading and answering

    1. Get the class to look through the questions in Lets Do It! No. 1. Make sure the class can understand them. Then ask the class to read the passage in order to find the answers.

    3. How did Anne Sullivan teach Helen Keller?

    4. What was the first word that Helen Keller learned?

    5. What was Helen Keller famous for?

    2. Elicit answers by asking individual students to read the sentences out.

    2. She fell ill. She had a high fever that made her blind and deaf.

    3. She spelled words on Helen’s hand with her fingers.

    Step 5  Careful reading

    Task 1:

    1. Read Paragraph 2 and answer.

    3. What did she often do after she lost her sight and hearing?

    2. Elicit answers by asking individual students to read the sentences out.

    Task 2: Read Paragraph 3 and complete.

    How did Helen Keller begin to learn “ water ”?

    guang? What do you know about them? What can you learn from them? 

         

    2. Ask the students to talk about them.

    3. Let some groups to share their opinions.

    Step 9  Language points

    1. Helen Keller, the well-known writer and educator, died yesterday at the age of 88. 著名的作家和教育家海伦·凯勒于昨天逝世,享年88岁。

    at the age of 在……岁的时候,与when引导的时间状语从句可进行同义转换。

    I began to learn English at the age of 4. = I began to learn English when I was 4 years old. 我在四岁时开始学英语。

    其后常接to do sth.
