There is a saying about the south-western Chinese province of Guizhou: “Not three feet of flat land,  not three days without rain, not a family with three silver coins.” But, with the help of a spicy sauce, Tao Huabi, also known as China's “hottest woman”, has well and truly opposed this rule.

Born in 1947, the eighth daughter of a poor family in a village of mountainous Guizhou, Tao did not go to school and did not learn to read or write. She spent her childhood hungry, and survived the Great Chinese Famine by eating plant roots, according to a biography on Weibo. When her husband died, she moved to the city of Guiyang and started selling noodles with a sauce that she made herself. She eventually opened the charmingly named Economical Restaurant in the 1990s. When a new highway brought truck drivers to Guiyang, she gave them free jars of the sauce and they spread the word. In 1996,she set a factory up in a house in Guiyang, and a year later Lao Gan Ma Special Flavour Foodstuffs Company was born.

Miranda Brown, professor of Chinese studies at the University of Michigan, who is writing a book on the history of Chinese food, says that in China, Lao Gan Ma's popularity is mainly because her products are natural. Chinese consumers tend to want foods that perfectly mix regional flavors and use ingredients grown from the soil of those regions. And today Lao Gan Ma is also increasingly popular overseas, especially in the US.

According to its website, the company produces 1.3 million bottles daily, helping the historically poor Guizhou achieve 10.5% growth-the second fastest of every Chinese province that year, and ahead of the national rate of 6.7%.

As for the godmother herself, an article in Yicai Global describes her as the Queen of a “red kingdom” of chilli fields.

24.Why is the saying mentioned in paragraph 1?

    A. To introduce the topic of the passage.

    B.To serve as background information.

C.To attract the interest of the readers.

    D.To describe the present Guizhou.

25.What does the second paragraph focus on?

    A.Tao's growth process.

    C.The hardships faced by Tao.

    B. Tao's living conditions.

    D.The development of the company.

26.According to Miranda Brown, what is the reason for Lao Gan Ma's popularity?

    A.Low price.

    C.Local ingredients.

    B.Spicy taste.

    D.Positive comments.

27.What can we learn from Tao's story?

A.God helps those who help themselves.

B.Failure is the mother of success.

    C.Well begun, half done.

    D.Many hands make light work.

    C

The CEO and founder of house-builder Project Etopia, Joseph Daniel, had unstable start in life. “My father was always drunk and my mother had mental disorder when I was 15.I've lived on the street and I need to do this,” says the 27-year-old young man. He left school without any qualifications.

Far from seeing it as a shortcoming, the hardship he himself experienced is what drives him to take on the challenge of solving the UK's housing crisis and dealing with climate change at the same time by building high-tech eco-homes that ordinary people can not only afford, but will also really want to live in.

The homes that Daniel wants to build are not traditional housings. They are made up of several parts and each part is made in Daniel's own factory in Cheshire. Traditional houses take months to complete, while his homes can be put together easily on site due to being partially pre-built in the factory. The firm's plan in Corby, Northampton shire, is a village that will consist of 47 homes, the first four of which were each built in nine days.

Houses are not only faster to build, but will also have smart technology built in and be much more energy efficient than the average home. With solar panels, Daniel says he can build houses that will generate more power than they use, potentially making up for some of the six tons of carbon emitted annually by the “typical” house as a result of the heat and power required.

“I want to slow climate change through housing,” he says. “It's our responsibility as humans. That's what our project is about. If you can get the economics and the environment right, you can make things better.”

28.What can we know about Daniel from the passage?

A.He was qualified as an engineer after graduation.

B.He was abandoned by his parents when he was a child.

C.He was inspired by his own experience to deal with housing crisis.

D.He was forced to take the task of housing problem by his parents.

29.What can we infer from paragraph 3?

A.Daniel's houses are similar to traditional ones.

B.Daniel's houses are partially built in advance.

C.Daniel's firm produces the houses as a whole.

D.Daniel's firm has built 47 homes in a village.

30.Which of the following best describes Daniel's houses?

    A.Traditional but comfortable.

    C.Green and advanced.

    B.Expensive but convenient.

    D.Fashionable and modern.

    31.What's the passage mainly about?

    A. It introduces a talented house builder and his achievements.

B.It's about Daniel's unique way of solving housing and climate problems.

    C. It tells us how to build houses faster and make them more affordable.

D.It stresses the importance of smart technology in house building.

    第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

    根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

What's the first thing you do in the morning? Brush your teeth, wash your face, take a shower, or eat your breakfast? 36 When you arrive at the office, do you first check your email or make small talk with your colleagues? Do you eat a healthy salad or a hearty steak for lunch? After you get home in the evening, do you exercise or make your dinner first?

37 However, they are not. Most of those actions are the byproduct of your habitual patterns. According to a research published by Duke University, 40% of peoples' daily activities are born from habits, not decisions made after careful consideration.

Habits play an essential role in our lives. They profoundly impact our health, productivity, financial security, and happiness. 38 Nevertheless, most of us fail to do so and easily revert to our regular patterns. However, once we understand the science behind habit formation, we can break habits into segments and restructure them to develop good ones that fit our needs and higher productivity.

Actually, many people are eager to cultivate good habits and drop bad ones. 39 The answer is to start with keystone habits. Keystone habits are the most influential habits for transforming lifestyles. Studies show that people who routinely exercise also are more productive at work. Families that habitually eat dinner together are found to raise children with better grades and improved emotional control. These are examples of keystone habits initiating a chain reaction in one's life. 40.

    A.Where should we begin?

    B.What should you do next?

C.Which route do you take to work?

D.As a result, we all want to develop good habits or break bad ones.

E.We can redesign many of our habits by changing our keystone habits.

F.You may think that all of these choices are the result of careful thinking.

G.They help create the basis for good practices and greatly improve people's lives.

Milo is a rescue dog, adopted by twenty-year-old Mary Swift. But the dog is also a rescuer.

One morning in November 2021, Swift was ready to go jogging as usual, with Milo following her happily. To her surprise, as soon as she opened the front door, Milo took off running towards the gate quickly. It was very unusual. He always ran after his master.

Outside the gate, Milo was looking around the neighborhood, looking a little alert. Suddenly, he ran straightly to the house across the street, barking loudly and sniffing around. He seemed unsatisfied with this house. He quickly ran to the one next door. He stopped there and turned to Swift, barking more loudly, with his tail swinging crazily. Swift followed him, shouting sharply “Stop, Milo!” Some passing neighbors were looking disapprovingly(不满地)at them.

Swift was kind of embarrassed. Not everyone wanted a strange dog on their property and liked hearing a dog's barks in the quiet morning. She tried to get Milo to go back, but Milo seemed not to follow the master's order. He started to scratch on the front door. Swift wondered,  “Why is he trying to break into the house?”  She looked at the house, which belonged to Sherry Starr, who was 85 years old and seldom walked out of her house. It was the time for her to trim her bushes in the garden. Somehow, she wasn't there that day.

Although Swift was a little doubtful, she still tried to drag Milo away. But at this time she could hear a sound coming through an open upstairs window.

    One possible version:

It was a voice yelling “Help”. Immediately Swift recognized it was Starr's. Milo was still barking, with his tail swinging more crazily. Swift decided to break into the house, but Milo rushed before her. When she came in, what she saw shocked her. Starr was lying on the floor, looking scared. “I slipped, couldn't move.” she said faintly. Swift realized Milo apparently heard Starr as she opened her door just now. She called 911 at once. Starr was rushed to the hospital and got timely treatment. Later, she showed her gratitude to Swift and Milo, saying “Only Milo could hear my cries for help. He was a blessing."”

    高一英语试题听力录音稿   2023.2

    Text 1

W:George will retire from his job before long and he wants to go around the world.

M:I think he should have a good rest.

    Text 2

W:Matthew,do you know much about body language in countries around the world?

M:Sure.I've picked up a few things from traveling around for work.

    Text 3

W:I'm starving! But I have so much work to do.

M:You should use your smartphone to order from Spring. It's a special meal delivery service. It's fast, cheap, and convenient!

    Text 4

W:Hi.Could I have two tickets for the next train to New Jersey, please?

M:Uh, OK. The next train is at 2: 30 pm, and it leaves from platform 5. That'll be $42,please.

    W:Let's see... I think I have a $ 50 bill somewhere.

    Text 5

W:I've been having trouble with my term paper. Would it be convenient to see you today?

M:I'm afraid not, Jane. But tomorrow, my office hours are from 10:00 to noon.

    Text 6

M:How did you do on the test, Jane? You looked very pleased with yourself when you left class, so I guess you must have done quite well.

W:Unfortunately, that was mostly overconfidence, Frank. I studied hard, and I was very relaxed when I took the test. But I didn't get a very good grade.

    M:Oh,no! What happened?

W:I turned the pages too quickly, and I missed a page. I thought it was a three-page test. I didn't even see page four!

    M:That's a shame!

    Text 7

M:Can I ask you a personal question, Linda?

    W:Sure,Mark.

M:Do you get an allowance every week from your parents?

W:Uh,yeah. They give me ten dollars a week, but that's only if I do my chores around the house.

M:What happens if you miss some?

W:They take off a dollar for a chore that I miss. If I miss more than three, then I don't get anything.

    M:That's a bit harsh, isn’t it?

W:I guess that's the point! I always do my chores, but it's not just about the money. I want to help out my family. Why do you want to know about my allowance, anyway?

M:My parents said that we could discuss it at dinner tonight. I need to figure out how much to ask for and how I should work out the details with them.

    Text 8

W:You look very anxious this evening. Is there anything wrong?

M: I am worried about my 15-year-old niece, Helen.

    W:What's worrying you?

M:I've seen a big change in her. She used to be very outgoing and sociable but now she is having problems with other children at school. Now she is totally someone else.

    W:Really?

M:Yes,now she is quiet and doesn't want to talk to anyone else. Her teacher said things are going backward in her study.

W:Her parents must be very anxious about her.

M:No,not really, both of them are too busy to worry about their daughter. I think I need to talk to them and ask them to spend more time with Helen.

W:Take it easy. It is something natural. I was outgoing when I was a little girl, but became very shy in teenage years. So don't be nervous about your niece.

M:Maybe you are right, but I will talk with my brother anyway.

    Text 9

W:Wow,what a beautiful home and I like the way the window screen gives you privacy from the street.

M:Follow me into the kitchen, you will love it.

W:Wow,they put a wine storage area in the kitchen. I love it!

M:The best part is the bedroom and the bathroom.

W:I love the relaxing colors of the wall and floor covering. I'd like to make an offer on this house.

M:As your house agent, I'm here to take care of this process. How much will you plan for the offering?

W:I really like the house and I will pay the full asking price of 380,000 dollars.

M:We'd better leave ourselves some bargaining room. Let's offer 330,000 dollars.

W:That sounds good. When will we know if they accept the offer?

M:The owners usually respond to an offer within a few days.

W:Well,I will call the bank tomorrow.

    Text 10

Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to the Manor House Museum. Before you go round, I'd like to tell you about some of the interesting things we have for you. Here in the entrance hall, you can see some old photos of the town. Over there in the Ford Room, we have some pictures of gardens painted in Italy. The colors of the flowers are really beautiful.

Upstairs on the left is our famous clock collection. We have more than a hundred and fifty different clocks and they all tell the right time. The oldest is four hundred years old. On the right we have a clothes-show. Famous actors once wore these clothes in films or television shows. Some of them are really beautiful.

You may like to buy the guidebook to the museum-it has many color photographs, and it costs 1 pound and 75 pence. You can buy one over there.

We are open until 5:30 today, an hour later than usual, so you have lots of time.

I hope all of you will enjoy the visit.
