Dear Chris,
Learning that you are enthusiastic about Chinese culture, I'm writing to invite you to attend a calligraphy exhibition themed Beautiful China, which is to be held in the school hall next Saturday.
As scheduled, a video about the Chinese writing system will be presented first to show its long history. What follows is the display of outstanding calligraphers’ masterpieces, which will be a feast for calligraphy lovers. Most importantly, visitors can practise Chinese calligraphy under the guidance of a calligraphy teacher. The exhibition will increase your appreciation of Chinese culture.
I hope you can come. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节
When they reached there, the roofers were still working in the heat. Seeing them sweating a lot in the hot sun, Sebastian decided to take some drinking water to them. He shared the idea with his dad, who nodded without hesitation. Sebastian collected the bottled water left in the car, then went to the nearby supermarket and bought plenty using his pocket money. After all this was ready, they returned to the library and asked the roofers to have a water break.
The roofers all climbed down happily for a water break. “Thank you for your timely water! Our water boy!” they all said as they passed around the bottles and opened them. “You deserve a big thumbs up, ” one worker said between gulps. Hearing the workers’ praises and seeing bright smiles on their faces, Sebastian felt so happy. It was a small thing, but still, it made Sebastian and the people he helped feel good.

W:Tom, what are you reading?
M:I'm reading Never Too Late. It's about an old lady's way of re-entering college. I've already finished about two hundred pages of it.
W:So when did the old lady go back to college?
M:In the year 1999. She was already 84 years old then. Three years later, she succeeded in graduating from the college at the age of 87.
W:That's really amazing. So when did she first go to college?
M:In 1936. She entered the same college called Smith College that year. But she dropped
out of school a year later.
W:Didn't she like her college life then?
M:Of course she liked her college life. She dropped out of college because her father thought that women should not receive a college education. So she was asked to work and help support her family.
W:She must have been very sad.
M:Yes. So do you want to read the book?
W:Yes. And I also want to introduce it to my students. I think they all should read it.
Text 10
W:With so many children waiting for Christmas morning to open their presents, there are also some children who will not get any presents. Luckily, lots of kind people try to help the families in need. One of them is an 81-year-old man called Jim Annis. He has made toys for kids from poor families in the past 51 years. Every year, the old man makes wooden toys and gives away about300 of them to the needy children in his area. He gets some wood from his neighbors and pays for other things needed to make toys himself. It costs him as much as $1, 000 each year. However, to him, making kids happy is more important than the money. Some people always ask Jim how much he gets paid for ma king the toys. He tells them his pay is the smiles he sees on the kids' faces. And he says that makes him continue doing this until he can't.
