Wang Yaping, together with Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, went into space aboard the Shenzhou XIII on October 16th. The 41-year-old Wang became the first female astronaut (女航天员) to enter Tiangong space station.
Wang’s space dream started in 2003, when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. At that time, Wang was a pilot in the Chinese army. After having safe flights for 1,600 hours over nine years, Wang was a strong candidate to become an astronaut in 2010. She pushed herself hard, getting the same training as men. “The space environment won’t change because you are a woman,” she told Xinbua.
The hardest part is the high-G training. Sitting in a spinning (旋转的) machine, Wang would become blind for a while because her brain was short of blood. “There’s a red button (按钮), said Wang.” If you can’t bear it, you can press it to stop.” But Wang never used it. “There is no such red button in my heart.” That strong spirit finally made her dream come true in 2013. She joined the team for the Shenzhou X mission.
Wang said that as astronauts, women have their own advantages (优势). “Women may be more patient and can better deal with loneliness. Women’s hearts are also easier to adapt (适应) to the weightless environment, making them more suitable for long-term missions.”
Wang Yaping went a long way before becoming the first woman to enter the Tiangong space station. She sets a good example for all women who dream of going to space.

COVID-19 is a strongly contagious (接触性传染的) coronavirus (冠状病毒) that can cause many illnesses like a runny nose, a sore throat, coughs and fever, even it can lead to death. We know it has kept changing so far. We’re growing what could be the most contagious coronavirus yet at a safe lab in Toronto, Canada, to study what danger Omicron actually brings. Scientists know Omicron has more mutations (突变) to the viruses than Alpha and Delta, but it will take very long time to find out what all those mutations mean.
We can’t just look at one and say oh, because of the mutation at 501 we know this is going to happen, because it happened with Alpha or with Delta. So that’s why we have to look at it in the whole thing, which is why we have to do all the work in highly safe labs.
Researchers are also studying the growing number of people testing positive for Omicron to answer three very important questions: Whether is it easier to make people sick? Does it lead to more serious illness? Is it easier to break through our immune (免疫) system, especially in vaccinated (接种疫苗的) people? We need to see many kinds of cases, we need to compare it to patients who have the other viruses such as Alpha and Delta to get some ideas. That will take a lot of time.
According to the latest data from South Africa, hospitals reported that they saw a rapidly growing number of mostly unvaccinated patients infected by Omicron. It suggested Omicron is more contagious, but it led to less serious illness compared to Alpha and Delta. The news made some people from all over the world filled with both hope and doubt. I keep my own opinion, because we’ve seen some news about mutations, but it isn’t the fact.
For now, Delta is still driving the numbers, since 2021, a large number of people have died from COVID-19, most of them are unvaccinated.
30.COVID-19 can cause a lot of illnesses, such as __________.
A.a runny nose, a nosebleed and coughs

C.a runny nose, a sore throat and a nosebleed and death
D.a runny nose, a sore throat, a stomachache and fever
31.Researchers are trying to answer three important questions to __________.
A.help people get vaccinated B.get some useful ideas
C.compare all kinds of coronavirus D.encourage people to get vaccinated
32.Where is the passage most probably taken from?
A.A newspaper. B.A diary.
C.A story book. D.A notice board.
33.From the passage, we can infer that __________.
A.Omicron isn’t as dangerous as Alpha and Delta
B.scientists found the most dangerous coronavirus
C.we won’t die from COVID-19 if we get vaccinated
D.other new coronavirus may appear in the future

As the Winter Olympic Games continue in China, here are some of the different technologies being used in Beijing.
Robots
Different kinds of robots have been used to help visitors and athletes. Some machines are being used to satisfy social distancing requirements related to COVID-19. Robots are also transporting equipment, cleaning surfaces and preparing and carrying food to limit human-to-human contact.
Smart beds
At the Winter Olympic Village, the athletes are sleeping on “smart beds” with sensors(传感器). The devices collect information on things like breathing and heart rates. They also have controls to allow users to choose sleeping positions, including one called “zero gravity”. That setting is supposed to reduce pressure(压力) on muscles and joints(关节) and support higher quality sleep.
These high-tech beds are very different from the lower-tech versions(版本) provided for Olympic athletes at last year’s Tokyo Games. The beds used in Japan were made of cardboard material, which received wide attention for being so unusual.
Digital currency(数字货币)
China’s digital money will be in use at the Olympics in the currency’s first main test with foreigners. Visitors can use digital yuan to pay for food, transportation and other goods and services. Users can get the currency by downloading an app, getting a digital yuan card or by exchanging foreign currency into digital form through machines in Olympic areas.
App monitoring
All Olympic players must use an app, called MY2022, for daily monitoring for COVID-19. The app allows users to send personal health information every day as a requirement to take part in the Games. The system is part of China’s aggressive effort to limit the spread of the virus during the Games.
34.Which of the following CANNOT be done by robots?
A.Transporting equipment. B.Preparing and carrying food.
C.Making machines. D.Cleaning surfaces.
35.A “zero gravity” bed is supposed to ________.
A.support higher quality sleep.
B.reduce pressure on blood and joints.
C.be as comfortable as the lower-tech ones in Japan.
D.receive less public attention than that in Japan.
36.What is NOT TRUE according to the passage?
A.Some machines are being used to satisfy social distancing requirements.
B.Visitors can only use digital currency during the Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
C.App monitoring is very useful in limiting the spread of the virus.
D.Sensors in smart beds can collect information on breathing and heart rates.

You’ll need to create a password to do just about everything on the Web, such as checking your email, banking online, logging in WeChat and so on. And while it’s simpler to use a short, easy-to-remember password, this can also cause serious risks to your online safety. To protect yourself and your information, you’ll want to use passwords that are long, strong, and difficult for someone else to guess while still keeping them easy for you to remember.
A strong password is one that’s easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess. Let’s take a look at some of the most important things to think when setting a password. First, never use personal information such as your name, birthday, user’s name, or email address. This type of information is often publicly available (可获得的), which makes it easier for someone to guess your password. Second, use a longer password. Your passwords should be at least six characters long or even longer. Then, don’t use the same password for each account (账户). If someone discovers your password for one account, all of your other accounts will be in danger.
You can try to use numbers, symbols, and both capital and small letters. You have to avoid using words that can be found in the dictionary. Like “swimming”, it would be a weak password. So random (随机的) passwords are the strongest.
Instead of writing your passwords on paper like books or notebooks where someone might find them, you can use a password manager (a kind of App) to store them safely online. Password managers can remember and enter your password on different websites. That means you won’t have to remember longer passwords. So it is a good and safe way to keep your passwords.
37.The underlined word “this” refers to ________.
A.checking your email B.banking online
C.using a short password D.sharing information
38.According to the passage, “________” is the strongest password.
A.20080618 B.Sywi2008! C.Swimming D.Betty!
39.The last paragraph is mainly about ________.
A.when to store your passwords B.how to set safe passwords
C.when to remember passwords D.how to keep passwords safely
40.The purpose of this passage is mainly to ________.
A.encourage people to check emails and banking online
B.help people with setting and storing safe passwords
C.stop people from using their personal information online
D.tell people the differences between easy and difficult passwords
Do you still remember the lecture from China’s Tiangong space station last year? On March 23, astronauts Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu gave another one! ___41___ What fun experiments did they do this time?
Hot “ice”
Last time, the astronauts made a water ball in space. ___42___ Well, it’s not actually ice. It’ s supersaturated sodium acetate solution (过饱和乙酸钠溶液).
The supersaturated solution is very unstable (不稳定的). The astronauts dropped a small crystal (晶体) of sodium acetate into the ball-shaped solution. Suddenly, more sodium acetate crystals grew, making a white ball of “ice”. This “ice” is anything but cold, however. ___43___
A bridge of water
How do you build a “bridge” with water? It’s hard to do it on Earth. ____44____ In the lecture, Wang Yaping first made two water balls on two plates, then let them touch each other. Next, Wang pulled the two plates apart, and the water between them didn’t break. It became a “bridge”! This is because the surface tension (表面张力) of water is not disturbed (干扰) by gravity in space. The surface tension keeps the “skin” of the water strong so that the bridge doesn’t break.
Separate water and oil
If we mix oil and water in a bottle on Earth, they will quickly separate (分离) because they have different densities (密度). Gravity brings the water down while the oil stays on top. ___45___
How can we separate them, then? In the lecture, Ye Guangfu rotated (旋转) the bottle to create centrifugal force (离心力). With this man-made gravity, the heavier water is pushed to the furthest point, which brings the lighter oil closer to the center.
