The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Spanish government have announced that Chinese has become an official language of the UNWTO since Jan. 25.
That means the organization will use the Chinese language, increasing China’s soft power in global tourism and the cultural domain (方面), It will help China’s tourism growth, encouraging other countries to carry out its policies (政策). Tourist places in China will also welcome more visitors, encouraging more people globally to learn the Chinese language. China’s influence on the cultural and tourism domains will surely grow.
There are two main reasons for that. First, Chinese governments have been promoting Chinese culture for long. As far as in 2016, the Spring Festival was listed as a national cultural heritage (遗产) and given special protection and promotion. Now, there are many influential festival lists in the world and almost all of them list the Chinese New Year, or the Spring Festival; many even list it at the top.
Second, the year-on-year growth in the number of Chinese tourists before 2020 has also played a part in promoting the Chinese language and culture. In 2019, the number of foreign visitors in China were more than 670 million. That means Chinese faces have become common at tourist places in the world.
Although the data for 2020 have not been published yet, the numbers are expected to have fallen because of the outbreak(爆发) of CoVID-19. But with China’s great efforts in stopping the virus from spreading, the number of tourists might still be larger,
Chinese language has now become a world language in tourism. That has a lot to do with China’s improving economy and people’s rising income (收入). With China’s growth, it is hoped that its influence on other soft power domains will also grow.
44. Paragraph 2 mainly tells us .
A. how to encourage foreigners to learn Chinese
B. why Chinese is widely used around the world

D. the advantages of Chinese as a tourism language
45. The underlined word “promoting” in the passage means “ ”.

In July, China introduced the “double reduction (双减)” policy. It hopes to reduce schoolwork burden (负担) on primary and junior high school students. The policy calls for reducing homework and after-school classes. According to the policy, children below the third grade will not have homework anymore. It should take no more than 90 minutes for junior high school students to finish their homework. After-school training institutions(校外培训机构) are not allowed to offer extra education courses or advanced(超前的) teaching on weekends, holidays or during winter and summer vacations. How do students feel about this new policy?
“Our homework is clearly less than before. Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments and learn from real life.” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “We are not encouraged to buy workbooks anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook.”
For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, such as dancing, volleyball and drama”
Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think it’s not necessarily a good thing. “Exams push me to study harder. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points,” Zhang said. Shen also pointed out that when burden is lightened, self-discipline(自律) becomes the key.
Each coin has two sides. We should see the advantages and disadvantages in it. The best way is to develop students’ good habits, which can help them learn basic knowledge and enjoy an independent space at the same time.
47. The “double reduction” policy aims to .
A. reduce the pressure put on teachers B. help students become more competitive
C. make vacations longer for students D. reduce students’ schoolwork burden
48. What do we know about the policy?
A. After-school training institutions should offer advanced teaching.
B. Junior high schools should reduce their homework.
C. All after-school training institutions are asked to close.
D. Homework is not allowed for primary students.
49. According to the “double reduction” policy, what kind of after-school classes CANNOT students take during vacations?
A. Sports. B. Dancing. C. Physics. D. Drawing
50. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. Exams aren’t necessary because they only show students’ weak points.
B. Students should use all the free time to relax.
C. Students should spend more time having fun after finishing homework.
D. Students should have a more disciplined plan for their study.

For many years, people in Mexico wondered where the orange and black butterflies came from’ every winter. Then, in 1937, a scientist started to follow and study the butterflies. How do the butterflies find their way back to the same place? This is an interesting question because only every fourth generation (代) makes the tip south. In other words, the butterfly that travels to Mexico this year is the great-great-grandchild of the butterfly that traveled there last year.
Each year, four generations of a Monarch butterfly family are born. Each generation of the family has a very different life. The first generation is born in the south in late April. It slowly moves north, reproduces(繁衍), and then dies. On the trip north, two more generations are born, reproduce, and die. Each of these generations of butterflies lives for only two to five weeks. In the autumn, the fourth generation of butterflies is born. This generation has a much longer life.
