    UNIT 1 How can we become good learners?

    Section A1a2d)第1课时

    设计说明

    本课时学习有关学习方法的对话。教学时给学生展示一些卡片,引入话题“How do you study English”,接着对该话题展开讨论,过渡到活动1a,从而进入教材的学习。然后由听力入手,进入活动1b-1c2a-2c的学习。通过听对话、跟读对话、练习对话、填空等活动,使学生理解对话内容。最后,阅读2d的内容,要求学生理解对话,找出问题并解决问题。通过2d进一步巩固与学习方法有关的短语和句型。

    教学目标

    通过本课时的学习,让学生达成以下目标:

    1.知识目标

    (1) 单词textbook, conversation, aloud, pronunciation, sentence, patient

    (2) 句型:使用by doing sth.表达学习英语的方法。

    —How do you learn English?

    —I learn by studying with a group.

    2.能力目标

    (1) 能听懂关于学习方法的语言材料。

    (2) 能运用所学知识谈论学习方法。

    (3) 能编写关于如何学习的对话。

    3.情感目标

    引导学生通过开展小组学习活动,培养协作精神,并能认识到学习方法的重要性,学会运用好的学习方法进行有效的学习。

    重点难点

    1.重点:学会运用how来询问做事的方式;学会正确运用介词by表达做事的方式。

    2.难点:能够联系实际运用“by+v.-ing”结构谈论自己的学习方法,并能为别人提供合理的建议。

    教学准备

    教学过程

    Step 1 Lead-in

    1. Show the students some pictures about studying English.

    2. Have a conversation about how to learn English with the class like this:

    T: What is he/she doing?

    S: He/She is…

    T: Yes. He/She studies English by v.-ing…

    Step 2 Practice   

    Practice conversations with the pictures like this:

    —How do you study English?

    —I study by…

    Step 3 Work on 1a

    Checkthe ways you study English. Then add other ways you sometimes study.

    by talking with the teacher; by joining the English club; by watching English movies; by enjoying English songs; by writing simple sentences; by reading English newspapers and magazines

    Step 4 Listening

    1.Get the class to read the phrases in 1a on page 1. Make sure they can understand them.

    2. Play the tape. Get the class to listen and write letters from 1a. And check them.

    The answers are: 1. b  2. e  3. d  

    1. Practice short conversations with the information you hear.

    —How does Meiping/Peter/Tony study for a test?

    —She/He studies for a test by…

    4. Listen again and underline the key sentences.

         

    Step 5  Pairwork

    Work on 1c. Make conversations about how you study for a test with the help of the pictures.

    A: How do you study for a test?

    B: I study by...

    Step 6 Listen and check 

    1. Get the students to listen to the conversation in 2a and check(√)the questions you hear.

    The answers are: 1, 2, 4, 5 

    2. Listen again. Match each answer with a question.

    The answers are: 1. d  2. b  4. c  5. a 

    3. Listen again and complete the conversation.

    Man: Welcome to the English club. Today we’re going to talk about the best ways to learn English. Does anyone learn English by watching videos?

    Girl 1: No. It’s too hard to understand spoken English.

    Boy 1: What about ______________________? Do you learn English that way?

    Girl 1: Yes, I do. ______________________.

    Boy 2: Have you ever studied with a group?

    Girl 2: Yes, I have! I’ve learned a lot that way.

    Boy 2: Do you have conversations with friends in English?

    Girl 2: Oh, yes. It really improves my speaking skills.

    Girl 1: What about reading aloud to practice pronunciation?

    Boy 1: I do that sometimes. I think it helps.

    Girl 2: I do, too. And I often ______________________.

    Boy 2: That’s a great idea!

    The answers are: keeping a diary in English; It helps to write English every day; look up new words in a dictionary

    Step 7 Pairwork

    Make conversations using the information in 2a and 2b.

    Have you ever studied with a group?

    Yes, I have. I’ve learned a lot that way.

    Do you learn English by…?

    Yes,.../No,...

    Do you have a chat with friends in English?

    Yes,.../No,...

    Step 8 Reading

    1. Get the students to watch a video and find out what Jack’s problems are.

    Check the answers one by one.

    The answers are:

    a slow reader

    don’t understand many of the words

    Guessing a words meaning sounds difficult for him.

    2. Read the conversation and find out Annie’s suggestions. Then check the answers one by one.

    The answers are:

    get the main ideas; read word groups

    guess a word’s meaning by reading the sentences before and after it

    read something you enjoy; read more

    3. Read the conversation and find out the following phrases and sentences.

    a little nervous            finish reading a book

    give a report              at first

    word by word             word groups

    You probably understand more than you think.

    You can become better by reading something you enjoy every day.

    The more you read, the faster you’ll be.

    4. Role-play

    (1) Read the dialogue aloud for a few minutes by yourself.

    (2) Role play in groups in front of the class.

    Step 9 Summary

    Get the students to have a summary.

    —How do you study English?

    —I study English by working with friends.

                   by watching English movies.

                   by making word cards.

                   by reading the textbook.

                   by listening to tapes.

                   by asking the teacher for help.

                   by reading aloud.

                  

    Step 10 Homework

    1. by + v.-ing短语写学习英语的方法,并与他人交流,记录更多有效的学习方法。

    2. Preview the article How I Learned to Learn English on page 3.
