Wang Shuang was just five when her parents divorced, dropped her at her uncle's and left. Football, as it often is, became an escape.
At seven, she was spotted by coach Xu Yilong, who found Wang quick in her playful behavior. As the only girl in the boys' team, Wang's performances were impressive, earning her the nickname “Iron Girl.” And soon, she sensed the sport's power. Football allowed her to “release herself” and realize “whatever happens, football never leaves you alone.”
However, life was never smooth sailing. The constant jibes (嘲讽) from some people, who always tried to push her down and destroy her hopes, affected her so deeply that she lost confidence. “They were saying I had no talent at all. Gradually, I felt really so.” Wang once wrote. But never did she stop playing. When she was called up to the national team, aged 17, Wang thought, “Me? Are you sure?” When a world-famous club wanted to sign her, she was “excited that an excellent coach thought I was good.” It was only then that she felt confident in her abilities. “I felt recognized. Perhaps I had a bit of talent after all.”
Not any “bit of talent”; the genius is praised as China's once-in-a-generation player.
China is a pioneer of women's football in Asia and has won the continental championship eight times, including seven straight titles between 1986 and 1999. That was their golden age. Gradually, though, the dynasty declined. It is hoped that Wang will inspire the women's football of the country to its former height.
Coaches are almost always hesitant to speak about individual players. But when coach Shui was asked about Wang before the match against Vietnam, she couldn't stop mentioning her influence on the team. Unfailingly performing on the big stage, Wang did not let her team down. When they lacked a quality ball, she delivered two high assists that finally led her team into the last-four clash (四分之一决赛).
“Nobody knows how hard it was,” declared Wang after the match. “We overcame difficulties. We also showed our strong spiritual power. I am proud of my team.”
24.What can we infer about Wang from the second paragraph?
A.She earned a living on her own. B.She was released from the team.
C.She was laughed at by the boys. D.She found a sense of belonging.
25.How did Wang regain faith in her abilities?
A.By winning recognition. B.By obtaining inspiration.
C.By playing in the national team. D.By ignoring other people's jibes.
26.Which would best describe coach Shui's attitude to Wang?
A.Conservative. B.Contradictory.
C.Favourable. D.Demanding.
27.What's the best title for the text?
A.Wang Shuang: A Steel Rose B.Wang Shuang: A Child Genius
C.WangShuang: A Football Pioneer D.Wang Shuang: A Golden Age Creator
C
What kinds of rooms are your favorite spots for studying? We are going to guess that they are probably not painted bright red or yellow. But maybe they should be. Imagine. You are suddenly asked to prepare for an exam. You have two rooms to choose from. One is a pale blue, and the other is a bright red. Which one do you settle into for study? Is one going to get your brain fired up for learning, or let you relax into a best state of concentration?
According to researchers at Curtin University in Australia, it might be the best to camp out in the bright red room when you are looking to store information. It might sound strange, since we often think of pale rooms — soft blues or light greens — as relaxing, or even reassuring (令人安心的). And they seem to be: The Curtin University study showed that pale colors made participants feel more relaxed and calm, while bright colors increased heart rate. But calming and relaxing, it turns out, may not always be the best environment for deep concentration or knowledge gaining. Reading comprehension (阅读理解) was much better in the bright rooms than in the paler rooms. Although participants reported that they generally preferred the pale rooms to study in as an approach to relax into work, the researchers saw just the opposite — that the bright-colored rooms seemed to lead to greater concentration.
While this might seem only surprising, the finding gets into a rather controversial area of psychological (心理学的) study. The Yerkes-Dodson Law says that a little bit of stress is good for achieving best performance, while too much stress negatively affects it. The higher heart rate and the reports of the bright colors creating a heavy atmosphere might just suggest that a little stress was good for the brain.
28.What is the common idea mentioned in the first paragraph?
A.Few people like bright red or yellow. B.Pale colors are connected with good grades.
C.Light-colored rooms make you feel nervous. D.Bright-colored rooms are not good for studying.
29.What might directly affect the research results according to Paragraph 2?
A.Participants’ preferences in colors. B.How participants reacted to colors.
C.Time participants spent in the rooms. D.What participants read in the rooms.
30.What can be concluded from the study by Curtin University?
A.Most people know how to make use of colors.
B.Stress is needed when you want to concentrate.
C.The higher the stress, the better your performance.
D.Being relaxed is very important to people studying.
31.What’s the main idea of the text?
A.Findings about people’s favorite room colors.
B.Bright-colored rooms can create a heavy atmosphere.
C.Room colors can affect one’s academic performance.
D.Light-colored rooms help people feel relaxed into work.
D
A new study focuses on K2-18b, an exoplanet (系外行星) discovered in 2018, which orbits a red dwarf star close enough to receive about the same amount of radiation from its star as Earth does from our sun.
Recently, scientists have discovered gas giants that have water in their atmospheres, but this is the least giant planet ever to have water detected in its atmosphere. “The water detection was quite clear to us relatively early on,” lead author Bjorn Benneke, a professor at the Institute for Research on Exoplanets at the Universite de Montreal, told Space.com in an interview.
“Studies have suggested that planets with hydrogen-rich atmospheres could host certain forms of life.” Benneke said. However, “K2-18b’s large atmosphere is extremely thick and creates high-pressure conditions, which likely prevents life as we know it from existing on the planet’s surface.” a news release reads. While these researchers found evidence for liquid water clouds on K2-18b, because of its lack of surface, rain wouldn’t pool on the planet. Without a real surface, so to speak, landing on the planet would also be nearly impossible to land on, especially because the gas is so thick and has such an incredibly high pressure that any Earth-created spacecraft sent there would be destroyed.
Benneke suggests that, possibly, this planet formed by rock absorbing large amounts of gas, “like a vacuum cleaner,” he said. The gas absorbed would have more than doubled the planet and increased its volume Warren eightfood.
To come to these conclusions, the research team analyzed data from Hubble Space Telescope observations that they made between 2019 and 2020 of the K2-18b planet passing in front of its star eight times. This type of research, Benneke said, is leading toward a final goal of “being able to study real, true earth-like planets.” We are not quite there yet, he said, but this is really exciting.”
32.Why is it impossible to land on the K2-18b?
A.It has thin gas. B.It doesn’t have a real surface.
C.It has too much water. D.It is too far from the earth.
33.How does K2-18b expand according to Benneke?
A.By releasing gas itself. B.By receiving radiation from the sun.
C.By taking in much gas by rocks. D.By getting away from the red dwarf star.
34.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Scientists are making progress in studying real earth-like planets.
B.It is impossible for humans to land on other earth-like planets.
C.Scientists have succeeded in exploring K2-18b completely.
D.The K2-18b planet has passed before its star eight times between 2019 and 2020.
35.What is the text mainly about?
A.The exploration of the outer space.
B.The study of solar systems’ environment.
C.The discovery of the K2-18b planet.
D.The research on the K2-18b planet.

How to Get Higher Marks in Exams
Have you got an important test coming up, where you really want to stand out? Or do you generally want to improve your grades? 36 There are a number of tricks and practices which can significantly improve your chances of scoring high on a test. This article will help you in studying, analyzing and solving exam questions,so read on!
37
The best thing you can do to raise your test scores is to pay attention when you’re supposed to be learning the material: in class! Letting your mind wander or not showing up at all are both likely to make you miss out on key information that will later appear on tests.
Take good notes.
38 There’s no point putting something you don’t understand into your notes. A short review of your notes while the material is still fresh on your mind helps you learn more. The more you learn then, the less you’ll have to learn later and the less time it will take.
Do your homework.
Homework such as assignments and at-home reading is where you will find the rest of the information that will be on tests,so doing this homework is important. 39
Do practice tests.
Ask your teacher or go online and print a few practice tests. And you can take a practice test. 40
Knowing your weak spots before a test is vital!
A.Plan your time carefully.
B.Pay attention in your classes.
C.Find out which ways help you learn better, and use them.
D.Needless to say,the answer to both these questions is yes.
E.Schedule time and set aside a quiet place just for doing it to avoid being disturbed.
F.This way will help you to figure out how much information you actually don’t know.
G.Successful students write down something understandable and organized, and review it often.

This fall break, I took my son Nels, aged 15 , for our long-planned vacation in a national park. We had a rented cottage at the foot of the mountain by a lake. And my niece Susan, aged 12, also joined us.
On the first day, abundant items kept everyone occupied: picnicking, canoeing, shooting. When night fell, we sat around the campfire singing and dancing with other vacationers, all having a great day.
Nevertheless, on the second day, I noticed Susan constantly checking her screen, busily texting. That day, she stayed indoors glued to her phone, playing Axe Climber. Then, I had an idea, announcing, "Tomorrow, we'll hike to the top of the Stone Mountains."
Hearing this, Susan shrugged, as if to say, "Why?"
Eyes fixed on Susan, I continued, "Put your phone aside and climb a real mountain, OK?"
"Well," Susan responded reluctantly, "the Axe Climber is moving up to the final level, so I'll not be available tomorrow."
"Susan, that's not the actual wilderness experience. I hiked a lot. It's greater fun," Nels said persuasively.
"Sounds more like punishment," she mumbled. "I hate sweating."
"Never have you been on a mountaintop. Susan, have a go this time, and you are sure to love the feeling and pleasure it brings."
She finally nodded unwillingly, "Fine, I'll give it a try."
I smiled. Anyway, she agreed. The next morning, we awakened to the sound of birds singing. It was a nice day with the sun shining mildly and clouds floating leisurely. "A perfect day for hiking," I said. "I will go, Uncle," Susan replied mechanically.
Packing bread, bottled water and camera into the backpack, we set out for our destination. Against the blue sky, a rough trail wound its way to the top of the mountain.
"I still don't think it's a good idea," Susan complained, frowning.
"No pains, no gains! Come on!" I encouraged.

续写:
Paragraph l:
Thus, Susan began hiking up. At first, she went up at a brisk pace. However, the higher we
climbed, the steeper the trail became. It was not long before we began sweating. “I can’t walk any
further!” Susan complained breathlessly. She was thirsty, sweaty and exhausted. Handing her a
bottle, I suggested taking a break. Minutes later, we continued our way. Susan followed, falling
further and further behind. “Hold on! We’re almost to the top!” “Susan, you’re a real climber!”
Both Nels and I cheered for her. Gasping, Susan took every step with great effort, progressing
slowly but firmly. I was proud she didn’t quit.
Paragraph 2:
An hour later, we made it to the top. “How awesome!” Susan yelled with wild joy.Falling leaves, red, yellow and orange, danced gracefully in the air. Below us, miles of fields and hills stretched out as far as we could see. “We’re on the top of the world! It feels so good!” Susan was enchanted, immersed in the pleasure never experienced. Resting on the rocks, we felt the refreshing breeze
brushing our cheeks. “Anyone still miss her phone?” I joked. Susan rolled her eyes, laughing out
loud, “Remember to call me next time you go hiking!” I felt relieved and rewarded. This hiking
was worth all the pains.
